That's a story how a world trip taught me what classrooms didn't. I got my first job during college and considering that I live with my parents, I could save all my paychecks and spend it with whathever I wanted. I bought a Work & Travel program at a local agency here in Florianópolis and applied for a bunch of ski stations at USA hoping that someone could hire me. I got accepted at Snowshoe Mountain, a ski station on the East Coast. There I worked during 4 months as a server and my goal was just to improve my english and expand my vocabulary. But I could learn so much more than that. A trip abroad by yourself expands your worldview and empowers you to be your best version of yourself. I have always considered myself a dedicated student but I don´t think I could learn that much on the class room as much as I learned experiencing life there. I've learned how to sky, I got fluent on another languages and learned a lot about myself. I discovered what really makes me happy, what are my fears , who really cares about me and what is necessary and important in my life. I also met argentinians, peruvians, philippians, chileans, south africans, uruguayans, americans and even brazilians that were from my city at the mountain. Learning new cultures and languages by living and being friend with different native speakers, the educational impact of my experiences abroad has been unparalleled. I also learned that you can find truly friendship wherever you are and not even speaking your native language. It's crazy that those people can get to know you better than someone that has your same nationality and you lived more time with. So much has happened since I've met them and countless ideas, projects, adventures and experiences happened because of it. Since this trip, life has been better and more interesting. It was suppose to be just a summer trip to United Stated but after that, I've been in Chile, Peru, Argentina, Uruguay to visit those friends and I'm still planning to go farther away. As someone who never thought of travel beyond vacations, now I wanna make the world my classroom, cause I believe in the power of travel, as an opportunity of improve not just your knowledge about academic things but about the world itself.
