72 HOURS ON A TOUR I woke up to the sound of a ringing phone. “Hello, Good morning” I said as I answered the phone call. I realized it was my uncle who lives in Finland. “Hello, can’t you recognize the voice of your uncle anymore?” “Oh, Uncle Sam! It is a privilege to hear from you today.” I exclaimed. “Yes, I am in Ghana for my holidays”. “I am taking you on a tour” “We are going to tour the Eastern Region of Ghana.” “Today. I want you to get prepared and I will come for you.” Not long, our uncle drove into the house. We ran and hugged him. . “We are heading towards Boti-Falls” Uncle said. We clapped and shouted of joy. The ride to Boti-Falls was intriguing as we climbed and descended mountains. In thirty minutes, we got to the gate. . He called one of the tour guards to take us through the expedition. He told us to follow him to the caves which we did. There were big trees on our way and the path was rocky. We heard birds chirping all over. Finally, we got to the Rocky caves. “Our ancestors lived and kept their belongings in the caves Said the Tour Guard. I got tired and relaxed under a tree. I was enjoying the cool breeze. We climbed rocks till finally, we were on a hill. We could see the Umbrella Rock, but he suggested, we first go to the three headed palm tree which I consented. “Wow!!!” I exclaimed. “It is beautiful “When you put some money on the rock and sit on it, you will give birth to twins I made few friends at the three headed palm tree. My uncle asked us to move on to the water falls. “I took my uncle’s camera and took pictures of the environment as we went away from the Umbrella Rock. We descended two hundred and fifty stairs before getting to the falls. The sound of the falls was loud. There were two falls. One is said to be a male and the other a female. But trust our local folks to romanticize the phenomenon. The locals describe the left as the male and the right as the female The tour guard said. My legs felt weak and wanted to rest again but my uncle held my hands and urged me to move on since it was an exercise. The following day, my uncle took us to Akosombo dam. It is also in the Eastern Region. We had a tour guard who came and briefed us about how the lake was formed. The Volta Lake is a man-made lake. It was formerly a village where people had settled. But when there was the need to generate electricity for the country, they were relocated. The Volta River was blocked and the water converged at the dam. The strength of the water turns the turbines to produce electricity. The next day, Uncle Sam said he was taking us to one of the most popular chop bar near Nkwawando near Nkawkaw. Abossey Okai Chop Bar has varieties of locals and delicacies. Even the environment gives you that Ghanaian traditional welcome. There were local drinks such as ‘sobolo’ and palm wine. We bought palm wine which was served in a calabash. There were local dishes such as banku, kokonte,. The foods were served with soups such as, light soup, palm nut. In these soups could be found, goat meat, bush meat, tilapia. Finally, I opted for fufu and ebunubunu with bush meat. The food was served in a mashing bowl. I was sad when we were told to leave because I had fallen in love with the aroma at the place. Uncle took us to Koforidua market where beads were being sold. I was dumbfounded as to how people could be so creative to use beads in accessories. We returned home full of joy and love. My 72 hours out touring was very exciting, overwhelming, intriguing and wonderful. The experience in Boti Falls,Akosombo, lake Volta and the Umbrella rock was a fun and a memorable one and hones.
