Screaming children, loud guttural noises coming from various animals, a ripe aroma lingering in the air - think cheese left out over night in the heat and the sun streaming across the room - creating sparkling arrays of dust and dirt....this is not how I pictured my vacation. We haven’t left home yet and the experience of getting a family organized to go on a two week vacation shouldn’t be this hard! Should it?!? As a busy family of 4 with a cat and a giant dog I should have know that getting things done wasn’t going to be easy but alas I thought we’d at least get to the airport without a hassle. Eventually everyone was sorted out, pet sitters arrived, luggage was packed, passports found, breakfast was eaten and the taxi to the airport arrived and managed to get us there in time for our flight. Getting boarding passes, going thru security - why do they always want to look in my son’s bag? Oh wait because he keeps putting dinky cars in his carry on, on a side note: parents don’t let your kids throw those dinky cars in their bags, it’s an immediate stop at the desk! Finally to the gate, plane’s on time (fantastic!), no one has to go to the bathroom or is feeling nausea and I haven’t lost the passports. This is going great!! Landing at the airport in Cancun isn’t like the last time from what I remembered. This is a huge, modern, trendy and massively packed airport. Going through customs is much more difficult with kids than 2 adults but hey the kids have to learn to travel and get to know how to get through the ins and outs of customs, security and airports if they want to be part of this family. Mental note: there are 2 forms to fill out for Mexico. I really wish I had not forgotten that, going back to the wee table to fill out that second form really took up my precious beach time. At last - the resort!!! Everyone collapses in the front lobby, only to be revived by some tropical fruit drinks (for the kids), cerveza for the hubby & some sort of rum infused goody for me. Food was delicious, I think I gained a couple of kilos, gorgeous sand beaches, multiple pools, all the food you can eat, no laundry, warm sunny weather - ahh this is what heaven must feel like. Do I ever want to leave?!? Short answer: no, long answer: we must go - have to go earn enough money to go to our next destination. Lesson: go out, have fun & remember your passport (and your bank card) because you don’t want to miss out on the next adventure!!
