In February 2019, I took a trip to Kilifi County. I had been sent by an organization to conduct research for their upcoming project. I chose to stay in Malindi town. When I was leaving Nairobi, I only had one person that I knew in Kilifi town and one other in Malindi. I arrived in Malindi at six in the morning, checked in at Marine Holiday House, then went back to Kilifi. My contact was to take me round the town as well as introduce me to key figures and local authorities in town. After I had finished my research with my contact; Mwalimu Mohammed I called my cousin so that he can also assist me with getting more information. it turned out he was in a stakeholders meeting in at Mada Hotels in Kilifi. I took a ride on a motorbike to the hotel about five minutes ride from the town. when I arrived the meeting had just ended. I waited for my cousin for a few minutes. When he showed up at the reception he was in the company of a lady called Maurine, who I later learnt that she had her own organization that deals with counselling, training counsellors as well as mentorship program for children. We scheduled a meeting at her office in Malindi the next day. One of the things I had planned to do on the trip was to train a few individuals for free on how to make carpets as well as crotchet blankets. I had carried yarn, crotchet needles, tapestry ready for the training. However, none of the ladies I called was available for the training. I honoured her invitation. I was at her office at 11.00 a.m. My visit had two reasons; one to teach her on carpet making skills and two to get more information about her organization and of course creating friendships. By the time I left her office at six in the evening, both Maurine and her assistant had already started making a doormat. I donated the yarn and crotchet needles that I had carried with me for the trip. My desire is travel the world and share the skills I have. I am not a good photographer, but I still have the desire to teach people how too use one. I have skills in video editing, video camera operations, story telling, making carpets, ponchos, scarves and blankets which I am willing to incorporate into my travel experience to different communities.
