Right from the childhood, I had a dream to take my parents to the world tour and that too with my own earned money. Unluckily, Mom left us when I just finished my college but still I wanted to take my father. Because of my busy schedule of a 9 to 5 job and his job as well, I could not find the time to take him but I wanted to start 2020 on a different note and it was my new year resolution to take him this year. He had travelled across India during his college days and always wondered how those cities would be developed now? Although I didn't have a clue on how to plan a trip and was little apprehensive because of his health issues, still Almighty favoured me and I got an interview call from Mumbai as I was on a sabattical. On the same page, I planned to take him to Mumbai along with me as he had visited the same city in 1978, to which he readily agreed. He was sitting in the aircraft for the first time and was enthused like a little child. So I requested the fellow passenger to give him the window seat which he agreed to pleasantly. He was super excited to see the plane going through clouds and then there was an announcement of weather turbulence. He was afraid of it initially but as I told him that it is normal, he became fine. It reminded me of my childhood when Papa used to take care of us as children in the same way. Finally, we landed at Mumbai airport. The weather was just opposite from North India, where we stay. It was pretty cold in North while in Mumbai, which is in Southern India, it was pleasant. After my interview on the next day, we planned to go to the city and explore all the places which my father had visited during his last trip. We first went to Gateway of india, and Taj lands end, which he told that had only old building that time but has a new adjoining building now. Gateway of India was still the same. Then we went to Juhu beach and chowpatty, which was pretty much the same except little beautification and pollution which has come up because of growing population there. Gateway of India to Juhu beach travel has Marine drive, which is a drive on the shores of sea and gives beautiful view. This drive was mesmerizing and it was the best part of our journey and surprisingly, this lane was almost the same since the time Papa visited. Next stop was to go to Siddhivinayak Temple, which had the same kind of crowd and devotion on the doors of Indian deity as it is always. Then the last was Bandra Worli sea link which was completely a new addition to Mumbai. It is a cable stayed bridge, which connects Western suburbs of Mumbai with Worli in South Mumbai. It was beautiful and gave an amazing view of the sea. Last but not the least was Kamla Nehru Park, which had an old lady shoe cottage which was kept intact from the time in 1978. Papa recalled how he had come to those places with his college friends then and now it was with his daughter. It was my first trip to Mumbai and the city was unknown for me, still as Papa told about all the places where we had to go, so it was a leap into the unknown for me. The best part about the city was that there were no tickets at any place and had free access to public still beautifully maintained by the city administration. The local people were honest, simple and helpful. It was an amazing experience and my dream came true to take my father on our first trip together. This is etched into my memory and will always be special as it was the first time. Now the next planned trip is to Simla through Kalka Simla Toy Train and I am sure that will be as wonderful as this one. Will update you on the same as well. Stay tuned.
