In my one years experience of being a full time Traveling Normad, I have faced some uncomfortable situations. Arriving in Tunisia, Africa for the first time was a shock since this WAS Africa and my first entry into an Arab country. But arriving in Singapore on New Years Day, 2020, and four days later in Bangkok, Thailand, was a world I never experienced! This was ASIA, a far different non-Western world. Thailand and Bangkok are both known for their street scenes, full of food choices at ridiculously cheap prices. But seeing food I could not identify nor deciphering the content from the illegible writing made me stop in my tracks! Concern over water and maybe eating something that didn’t agree with me also gave me pause... The truth is, there IS no safe way to do it; you just have to jump in. I figured the worse case was maybe some stomach discomfort but nothing beyond that, and nothing even came close to that. When I saw a dish that looked interesting I went for it! If I didn't like it or the vibe was off, in the trash it went. Follow the gut instinct, right?! The risk of losing a few measly dollars made the risk worthwhile, so after a few days of dreaded indecision I did go for it and was better because of it! Pad Thai turned out to be my fave and in the time I was there had it almost daily. Even at age 65 this Old Dog can STILL learn new tricks! Leaving the United States at age 64 for a full-time existence of Life on the Road is a decision I am so proud of! Inspiring others that it is “never too late” to live life is something I am very thankful for. Along with Pad Thai!
