What a small world

I didn't expect to find Australia

In 2016, I attended my first ever solo trip across the world. I live in a small community in northern Saskatchewan, Canada and I’ve traveled to Darwin, Australia to drive three hours into a community- Barunga. I left Saskatoon July 2nd and arrived in Darwin July 4th, tons of connection flights to be made. But while in Australia I didn’t expect to the find the same local connections I see in my own community, the family, the culture, the language. I am a training anthropologist and being a Native Canadian (Status Indian - Cree) I am in awe and mesmerized by the culture. I didn’t expect to find, rich culture that was comprehensive for me to compare to my own culture. I didn’t expect to find cultural connections across the world, with that said.. I strongly believe all aboriginal cultures have many of the same meanings but within each culture they have their own distinction. Being who I am today and what I’ve learned in my spiritual journey, educational journey, I can write and bring to life the words of the people. Australia I believe is the missing piece that the world needs, there is so much knowledge in the land itself, and if the people are on your side then you’d have the oral histories and traditions to compare to the land and release to the world.
