WHITE-HEAVEN!

I didn't expect to find Australia

You wake up floating catamaran style through the ocean. Turtles popping their heads up to take their first morning breath. You “bed sandwich” your sleeping bag and matt. Stuff some chocolate spread coated breakfast down your throat . You speed over the bay to the Island. Hike through the bush and get your first glance at the Inlet… A key spot on my Australia bucket list, I was a little worried that expectation would take over reality. But I could not have been more wrong! Hidden on the south eastern corner of Whitsunday Island is the 7km pristine silica sand beach of Whitehaven. It’s a true slice of heaven (even in the Australian winter!). Blue skies, crystal clear waters and incredible beaches. Ask anybody who knows me – I hate sand. It gets everywhere and never comes off. I’ll wear my converse to walk down the beach and carry a bottle of water to wash it all away when I get back onto land. (I’m that bad!). But my favourite place on Earth just became a sandy beach! I didn't expect that at all! The sand was like nothing I’d ever experienced before! For starters it never gets hot – what could be more perfect in a steamy hot country than a cool beach to lie on!? It also has an almost clay like texture, kind of like what you expect snow to feel like before you realise its all cold and wet! But most importantly, Whitehaven Beach is basically a FREE (yes FREE) spa! It has an endless list of beauty benefits, so much that its illegal to take sand home with you! Feeling a little bit awkward full on rolling around on the beach, the girls and I just had a little exfoliate and set off the explore the hidden beaches. After some obligatory photos (who couldn’t!) it was back to the boat to continue the rest of the Whitsunday’s adventure….
