Sometimes during your trip, something unexpected happens, and you need to return home. For example, a family member may need urgent care due to illness or injury or your home was damaged or destroyed by a natural disaster. These are situations where the trip interruption clause of your travel insurance could be useful.
Under the trip interruption benefit, you could be reimbursed for your pre-paid, non-refundable travel costs if you need to shorten your travels for a reason that your policy covers.
Your policy will list every reason or event under which you may be covered. It also specifies the maximum amount that you could be reimbursed.
Please read your policy for more details and prepare to provide documentation to support your claim.
This is only a summary of coverage and does not include the full terms and conditions of the policy. You should read your policy wording in full so you understand what is and isn’t covered. That way there won’t be any surprises if you need to use it. If you have any questions, please get in touch.
Coronavirus (COVID-19) and travel - Need to know before you buy
Some but not all of our policies provide cover for some coronavirus-related events – select your Country of Residence to find out more. Cover is not available for loss arising from: government intervention including travel bans, border closures or broadly imposed quarantine requirements; events for which the Government (see your policy) has issued a ‘Do Not Travel’ warning or its equivalent, for your destination(s); or failure to follow advice from official bodies. Your ability to travel may be affected by travel restrictions. Check your cover and the latest government advice and our travel insurance alerts.
