Trip resumption after an unexpected return home

Depending on the policy you bought and the circumstances in which you had to return home, we may pay for you to resume your trip.

What’s covered (Explorer Plan only)

We’ll pay for your reasonable additional travel expenses (Economy class) for you to resume your trip to the destination where you would have been (according to your original travel plan at the time you are resuming your trip) if you are:

  • Repatriated home due to an accidental injury or serious illness; or

  • If you have had to return home due to the accidental injury, serious illness, death of a close relative (as defined in the policy wording) of yours.

How it works

If you wish to resume your trip, you MUST advise us within 30 days of your return home.

Provided your policy is the Explorer Plan, and it is still valid (that is, it’s the same policy that covered your unexpected return home and has not expired) and we’ve agreed to cover your additional travel expenses to get you back to your adventures, you’ll have cover for the Trip Resumption benefit.

What’s not covered

Travel insurance is not designed to cover everything, so take the time to read the Policy wording for full terms and conditions, limits to cover and exclusions, particularly Section 2.3 Trip Resumption (Explorer Plan) and Section 3 Trip Interruption, the General Exclusions and the Specific Exclusion under Sections 2 and 3, so there are no surprises if you do need to use it.

Here are some of the main things that aren’t covered:

  • If the incident causing your return home was not covered under this policy.

  • Resumption of the trip if it does not take place within the same insurance period as the incident.

  • Any further expenses incurred as a result of the medical condition which resulted in your return home. The medical condition that caused you to return home will be deemed a pre-existing medical condition at the time you resume your trip.

This is only a summary of cover and does not include the full terms, conditions, limits and exclusions of your policy. You should read your policy wording in full so you understand what is and isn’t covered. If you have any questions please get in contact with us.
