The best restaurants in Cuba don’t look like restaurants at all.

The government owns most of the businesses in Cuba, including the restaurants. But, if you know where to go, there are hidden restaurants tucked away in what look like normal family houses. We learned about this neighborhood restaurant through Michael, our taxi driver friend (we would never have found it without a local showing it to us). The owner, Beatrice Barletas Scali, was hesitant to give an interview at first, but later opened up. She’s very proud of her restaurant, and her passion for food and bringing people together was evident. It felt like being at a friend’s BBQ.

Stephen was born in South Africa. A former professional surfer and male model, he made his mark in the television and film industry by creating, producing, and selling his first title ("The Blueprint") to Fox Networks at the age of 23. His production company, Save Your Day Films, has dozens of projects in development and preproduction, covering reality TV, animation, documentaries, and features.
