Belgium Travel Alerts and Warnings

Check this page regularly for alerts and warnings that affect travel to Belgium.

Historically, Belgium has been generally free of terrorism attacks however that all started to change back in 2014. Since then, the country has been subjected to spontaneous attacks by extremist Islamists, aligning themselves with Daesh (ISIL) . This has led several foreign governments to warn travellers to exercise caution when travelling in Belgium.

The Belgian Government has issued a Level 3 security warning across the entire country, which indicates a serious threat of terrorism exists. Many foreign governments have suggested travellers keep a heightened level of vigilance in public places while travelling around major locations in Belgium especially around shopping centres, transport hubs, airports and at major events. It is also a good idea to listen to any announcements issued by Belgian authorities.

Security has also been increased at border crossings, transport hubs and airports.
