About this charity
Inspired by Professor Fred Hollows, a humanitarian, eye surgeon and social activist, The Fred Hollows Foundation has a very clear goal: they're putting an end to avoidable blindness. In developing countries, 4 out of 5 people who are blind don’t need to be. Eye diseases like cataract, trachoma and diabetic retinopathy can lead to blindness when, in fact they're either treatable or preventable.
The Foundation supports life-changing surgeries and treatments to restore sight – often with a simple, 20 minute operation. They build local skills by training a range of people, from doctors, nurses to community health workers and invest in new technology and equipment.
Since The Foundation began 1992, they’ve restored sight to more than 2.5 million people in more than 25 countries around the world, including in Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

About this charity
Over 650 million people in the world don’t have access to safe, clean water to drink, and over two billion don’t have sanitation.
Every person needs a sustainable supply of clean water, a decent toilet is something everyone should have access to, and good hygiene practices maximize the benefits of both clean water and decent toilets. When people have access to these three things they're much less likely to get ill and, particularly in the case of women, are able to live safely and with dignity.
WaterAid Australia is an international NGO dedicated exclusively to the provision of safe domestic water, sanitation and hygiene education to the world’s poorest people.
