Am I covered by travel insurance if my cash has been stolen?

If you purchased the Explorer Plan and your money was stolen or lost while carried on your person or left in a locked safety deposit box then cover may be available.

What does World Nomads cover if your cash has been stolen?

We define money as: hard currency, i.e. bank notes and coins.

You can claim up to €250 per insured person per trip for lost or stolen money following an insured event. There is also an excess of €100 applied per insured person per event.

What you must do if your money is stolen or lost

  • Go to the local police station ASAP for a written police report if your money has been stolen.
  • Find and keep the evidence of the initial withdrawal of the cash that was stolen or lost.
  • Provide evidence of how you coped financially immediately after the loss (e.g. currency exchange/withdrawal slips, bank/credit card statements).

What's not covered

Your claim may be denied if you did not exercise reasonable care in protecting your money against theft.

Travel insurance is not designed to cover everything, so take the time to read the full description of cover in the policy wording so you'll know exactly what is and isn't covered. If you have any further questions please get in contact with us.
