We understand that many travellers may have an ongoing medical or dental condition but unfortunately pre-existing medical conditions cannot be covered unless otherwise expressly stated in your policy.
As such, Coronavirus (COVID-19) is not an automatically covered pre-existing medical condition and is subject to the same ‘pre-existing medical condition’ definition as all other medical conditions. This definition is outlined in your policy and applies to you, your travelling party, a close relative or any other person upon whom your trip depends.
As part of our insurance cover we will assess any medical-related claim, which may include verifying:
The following can help determine if you, your travel companion, a close relative or someone upon whom your trip depends has a pre-existing medical condition. If any of the following exist at the time you buy your policy, start your trip, extend your policy or resume your trip after returning home early, then we’ll consider that you have a pre-existing medical condition:
Don’t forget, if you had symptoms of a condition or were undergoing investigations for it at the time you bought your policy, we consider that to be a pre-existing medical condition.
Read this article 'Am I covered if I’m pregnant’ for more information on pregnancy cover.
Also be aware that any medical claim submitted will have the policy excess applied.
The policy isn’t designed to cover everything so take the time to read the terms, conditions, limitations and exclusions in the Policy Wording for full details, so there are no surprises if you need to use it. If you’re not sure if something is covered get in touch.
We’re here to help if you have a question about travel insurance.
