Travel Insurance: What is my country of residence?

Your country of permanent residence is the country you would want to be repatriated to in the event of a medical emergency, and where you are entitled to long term health care if required.

You are eligible for cover under this insurance with Ireland as your country of residence, you may be an Irish citizen or resident of Ireland and you:
  • will be 64 years old or younger at the time you buy or extend your policy; and
  • have unrestricted right of entry into Ireland; and
  • have access to long-term medical care in Ireland; and
  • have a permanent residential address in Ireland.
For clarity, here are the definitions of an Irish citizen or resident:

Irish Citizen:

For the purpose of this policy, a person with an Irish passport which describes the holder as an Irish citizen, with a permanent residential address in Ireland, and with unrestricted right of entry to Ireland.

Irish Resident:

A holder of an Irish residency visa with:

  1. unrestricted right of entry into the Republic of Ireland, and

  2. access to long-term medical care in the Republic of Ireland, and

  3. a permanent residential address in the Republic of Ireland.

Please be aware that your policy can’t cover any expenses incurred within your country of residence. All people on a policy must be from the same country of residence. And, if you are travelling with people from different countries of residence, they will have to buy separate policies to cover their country of residence, which may have different terms and conditions of cover.

Each policy has specific conditions or definitions of residence, so do read the policy wording carefully for full details.
