Gone are the days of solo backpacking.

Traveling with your family is a whole different ball game. While you might have pushed some boundaries when traveling by yourself or backpacking when you were young, you’d never do that with your family in tow… or would you? That’s where a World Nomads Family policy comes in, supporting you when things go wrong.

How can World Nomads Travel Insurance help me and my family?

The World Nomads team is always there to help you navigate and locate local medical assistance, provide information and advice and assist in keeping your dream family holiday on track.

Are you planning an outdoors family camping adventure around Europe? Planning a trip with your grandchildren to Lapland Finland to see the home of Santa Claus and the Northern Lights? Whatever your travel plans are, World Nomads has insurance plans to choose from for you and your loved ones when planning your next family holiday.

We cover more than 150 activities, and all our policies include cover for events our travelers often encounter, including:

  • Overseas medical expenses
  • Trip cancellation and travel delays
  • Cover for delayed, stolen or damaged luggage and valuables:
  • 24/7 Worldwide Emergency Assistance
  • And much more!

Make sure that you’ve selected the right travel insurance plan for your specific needs. With World Nomads you can get a quote, make a claim, or extend your policy instantly online, even while traveling.

When you get a quote, you have the option to include all dependents that will be traveling with you on the one policy to ensure coverage for your whole family.

Note: all travel insurance plans are different, and cover will vary, depending on what's happened, your Country of Residence, the plan you choose and any options or upgrades you buy.

Overseas medical & dental insurance cover and emergency assistance 24/7

When traveling with dependents, medical insurance could provide cover in the case your child is injured while doing a sport or activity, a family member gets ill due to food poisoning or allergies, or a medical emergency occurs landing someone in hospital. Without cover, you may be left out of pocket if you have to visit a local doctor, go to hospital, need an urgent trip to the dentist, or even worse, have to be repatriated back to your country of residence.

World Nomads also offers cover for emergency medical expenses for treatment, prescriptions, doctors’ visits, hospital stays and emergency transport. Our 24/7 Emergency Assistance Team can help direct you to the nearest or most appropriate medical facility.

The Emergency Assistance team can help you find local medical facilities if needed; contact embassies in case of a lost passport or other emergencies; and in the worst-case scenario, help get you home if you’re seriously injured or ill and need to be repatriated. When you call (free from anywhere in the world), make sure you have your policy number and a contact number for where you are so we can help.

Some of the most common events our Emergency Assistance team can help with include:

  • Determine if hospital care and treatment is reasonable for your condition
  • If medically necessary and agreed to by us, we can organise for you to be evacuated or repatriated
  • Help you access medical care in your location
  • Help you find local updates on an unexpected natural disaster or a specific unfolding situation
  • Provide contact details for your government/embassy
  • And many more.

What’s not covered

Read your policy carefully as there are some exclusions including:

  • If you change your mind, you are not covered for cancelation or other expenses incurred as a result
  • Non-emergency treatment that can wait until you return home (it's not health insurance, it's for travel emergencies)
  • Leaving valuables unattended: stolen, lost or damaged personal belongings that were left unguarded
  • Pre-existing medical conditions – see the policy wording for details
  • Traveling to, planning to travel to, or choosing to remain in a country or region that is subject to a ‘Do Not Travel’ or ‘Avoid Essential Travel’ warning issued by your Country of Residence
  • Participation in a sport or activity not listed in the policy wording or agreed by World Nomads where you haven’t paid the required additional premium

FAQ’s

What is considered a child under your policy?

The definition and age of your dependent will vary depending on your Country of Residence. For example, if you are a UK resident, dependent is defined as ‘your financially dependent children or grandchildren who normally reside with you and who are in full time education, are 20 years old or younger at the time you buy and extend your policy, are travelling with you on your trip, and are listed as covered on your Certificate of Insurance’. The age limit is different for example, if you are considered a rest of world resident under our policies, In this case your children must be 17 years old or younger.

Am I covered for every member of the family?

With World Nomads there is cover for a maximum of 2 adults per policy and up to 8 dependents per policy, e.g., up to 8 dependents depending on your country of residency. To insure more than 2 adults or more than 8 dependents, additional policies must be purchased. Always make sure you have double-checked the terms and conditions to make sure each family member is covered adequately under your specific World Nomads policy.

Am I covered if any family members are affected by COVID?

As part of our travel insurance plans and depending on your Country of Residence, you may be covered if during your trip, you or a member of your travelling party are confined to compulsory quarantine as a result of your or their diagnosis of or confirmed close contact with a case of COVID-19. We will pay for your reasonable additional travel, meals and accommodation, including in-room entertainment (especially handy if you have a lot of children to entertain). Additionally, if during your trip, you are unable to take care of your dependent children due to a COVID diagnosis, we will pay your reasonable additional childcare costs for a registered or appropriately qualified childcare worker to take care of your dependent children.

Broken glass shards.

At 12:00 in the afternoon after a yoga class, I took a large jar of coconut water from the fridge, and accidentally dropped it on the counter and slipped onto the broken glass shards. I slipped while holding a jar. I hit my left wrist on the broken glass shards and had cut wound as a result. I looked at it quickly, saw open flesh flapping, wrapped it in a clean towel and called a taxi to go to the hospital as soon as possible. I had pain and numbness in my right wrist. No neck injury, no head injury, no other injuries apparent.
