About Coronavirus

We are aware various governments have changed their travel warnings to restrict travel during this time. To understand the impact on your policy, please go to our FAQs and choose your country of residence.

Nobody wants to plan (and pay for) a trip that’s not going to happen. If you need to unexpectedly cancel for a covered reason, World Nomads can help you recoup your investment.

What's covered

Let’s face it: not everything goes as planned and sometimes the Plan B is putting the brakes on the trip altogether. We cover trip cancellation in the following case scenarios:

  •  When a physician certifies, after examination and treatment, that you or your travel companion aren’t able to travel for medical reasons.
  • A close family member gets sick (with documented treatment) or dies.
  • You or your travel companion are being required to work (you must supply a notarized statement from your employer).
  • Your destination residence is no longer liveable as the result of an unforeseen natural disaster such as an earthquake or flood.
  • You or your travel companion are required to serve on a jury or subpoenaed within 10 days of departure.
  • You or your travel companion are active military personnel and are being called to emergency duty to provide relief in a natural disaster.

What's not covered

Travel insurance is not designed to cover everything, so take the time to read the policy for full details on what may not be covered under trip cancellation coverage. For example:

  • A pre-existing medical condition that was or is not stable during the required time period.
  • A travel visa or passport is not issued in time for your trip due to your late application or previous refusal.
  • If a natural disaster was forecast or announced before you purchased your policy.
  • When you change your mind on a whim.
  • You and travel companions are bickering, and you can’t stand the thought of spending time with them.

Making your claim

Depending on your case, you'll need copies of:

  • Receipts
  • Itineraries
  • Doctors/death certificates
  • Medical history
  • Written documentation from your travel provider explaining the reason for cancellation and any proof of compensation

Wife's accident cancels Kilimanjaro

I had to cancel my trip to Tanzania because my wife hurt her back in an accident. I was supposed to leave in three days, but it is impossible now because I have to take her to the hospital for a scan. I paid for a Kilimanjaro climb which is not refundable because it was too close to my departure date. I also put down a deposit for a three-day safari and had to cancel flights and my volunteer job.
