If you’re planning a few stopovers in certain countries while travelling overseas, you might be thinking to yourself – Do I need travel insurance for all these countries even though I’ll only be visiting the airport lounge?
World Nomads offers travel insurance cover if you do decide to leave the airport and go exploring a new city or country. On the other hand, if you don’t leave the airport you won’t need to buy any extra cover, however, this will depend on your country of residence and the plan you’ve chosen.

Important: When you buy a policy, you must select all the countries and regions where you’ll be travelling, and these will be shown on your Certificate of Insurance. Your policy will provide cover for your chosen countries and regions of travel unless there’s a warning issued by your local government advising against all or all but essential travel to a particular country or part of a country and you choose to go there anyway.
For European residents, if you want to travel longer, you can extend your policy before 11:59pm on the end date shown on your Certificate of Insurance, based on the time and date in the capital city of your country of residence. You may extend using your World Nomads membership online, provided:
If you decide you want to keep travelling at your stopover location, you can extend your policy before midnight on the end date shown on your Certificate of Insurance by using your World Nomads membership online. You will have continuous cover, subject to the conditions described in your policy section ‘Extending your policy’.
The maximum duration available for any policy, including extensions, is 12 months (366 days) from the start date. Please be aware that you cannot extend your policy once it has lapsed, but you can buy a new policy.
