Travel Insurance: What is my country of residence?

For information relating to policies purchased prior to 8 November 2022, please check the Policy Wording provided with your purchase. You can contact us if you need this sent to you again. For policies purchased from 8 November 2022, please see below.

Your Country of Residence is the country you would want to be repatriated to in the event of a medical emergency, and where you are entitled to long term health care if required.

When you apply for insurance, you need to meet certain eligibility criteria; one which relates to country of residence. All travellers to be insured on your policy must be from the same 'Country of Residence' which we define in the policy wording as:

The country where you are a citizen or legal resident, and where you have:

  • unrestricted right of entry; and
  • to long-term medical care – particularly if you require a medical repatriation under this policy; and
  • your home (as shown on your Certificate of Insurance) to where, whenever you are absent, you intend to return.

Please be aware that your policy can’t cover any expenses incurred within your country of residence. All people on a policy must be from the same country of residence. If you are travelling with people from different countries of residence, they will have to buy separate policies, which may have different terms and conditions of cover.

Each policy has specific conditions or definitions of residence, so do read the policy wording carefully for full details.

This is only a summary of cover and does not include the full terms, conditions, limits, and exclusions of the policy. You should read your policy wording in full, so you understand what is and isn’t covered. If you are unsure about your level of travel cover, please contact us for help.
