Travel Insurance and High Value Specified Items.

Are you taking high value items with you on your adventures and want them covered for a bit more than what’s automatically offered under the standard baggage limits for theft or damage?

Yes? Then we give you the option to upgrade and pay a little extra to increase the cover for your  tablet, laptop, camera, mobile phone or any other high value item (except jewellery, bikes and musical instruments) up to $3000 each.

How it works

To upgrade your cover for your high value items, simply list these items on your policy and pay the additional premium.

Very Important: You MUST add your high value items to your policy before your policy start date. It will be too late to add these items once your policy starts. Add them when you first buy your policy or at any time before the departure date by simply logging in to your membership page.

If you buy items while travelling, they‘ll be covered under the standard baggage limits. Here’s a hint: if you know you’ll be buying a high value item on your travels and have a fair idea about how much it will cost, you can always list it on your policy before it starts.

We don’t apply depreciation (wear and tear) to high value item claims, so you can claim for the amount you insured it for. However, be aware that any specified valuable items claim will have the $100 policy excess applied (per event).

What you pay

You can cover your high value item up to its original purchase price (up to $3,000 max).Just make sure you have the receipt showing this purchase price and your ownership, as you’ll need it to make a claim.

The amount you pay to upgrade the cover on your high value item/s depends on two things: the cost of your high value item and how long you’re travelling for. It goes something like this:

DurationAdditional Cost
Up to 3 months                         5%
4 to 6 months                         6%
7 to 9 months                         7%
10 to 12 months                         8%

For example:

Trip Duration: 4 months

Additional Premium:$2500 x 6% = $150

Specified item limit: $2500

What we can't cover

A specified item must be a personal item owned by you and that you take with you or buy on your trip, which is designed to be worn or carried about with you and where you can provide proof of ownership. So you won't be able to list a car (yes...this has happened!!!) or any of the following as specified high value items.

  • bicycles and bicycle accessories;
  • sporting equipment over three years old;
  • watercraft of any type (excluding surfboards);
  • items for commercial use, including samples, stock and collections; tools of trade; business equipment
  • firearms and weapons of any type;
  • musical instruments;
  • antiques;
  • precious stones not set in jewellery; or
  • perishable items

We'll pay for theft or accidental damage of your high value specified items according to the policy terms, conditions and exclusions outlined in the policy wording.
