Can I Resume My Trip After an Unexpected Return Home?

For information relating to policies purchased prior to October 23 2024, please check the Policy Wording provided with your purchase. You can contact us if you need this sent to you again. For plans purchased after October 23 2024, please see below.

World Nomads travel insurance* covers Americans when they travel, and in some cases, we may pay for you to resume your trip if you unexpectedly need to stay in a certain trip location for longer (like if you or your travel companion get sick).

What’s covered

Your plan may offer you transportation back to your trip destination (if you are still on your trip) and any pre-paid, non-refundable accommodations you’ve missed because you’ve had to interrupt your trip for a covered reason such as:

  • An unexpected injury or illness has prevented you from continuing your travels, as certified by a physician and approved by the 24/7 Emergency Assistance team.
  • A travel companion or family member traveling with you needs medical treatment for a sickness or accidental injury.
  • A close family member dies.

It is important to know that you can be reimbursed to rejoin your trip only if you are still on your trip and you haven’t returned home. For example, say you get sick during your two-week trip to Europe and have to stay in Paris longer than expected. Once you are well, you could be reimbursed for your transportation costs to catch up with the rest of your itinerary. However, if you return home during this time then you are not eligible to rejoin your trip later.

Will my cover still work if I resume my trip?

While your coverage is not in effect when you’re at home, it’s still valid when you travel up until the original end date of your plan. That means you don’t have to buy a new plan if you choose to get back on the road. However, you will need to purchase a new plan if you want to travel beyond your plan’s original end date.
