A change in a travel advisory by the U.S. State Department does not affect your World Nomads travel protection plan. The travel protection plan will continue to provide you coverage prior to and while on your trip, subject to the terms and conditions of your policy. Please note, a change in the U.S. State Department travel advisory is not a covered peril under the trip cancellation or trip interruption benefits.
For example, suppose you purchase a policy for a three-week trip to Europe, but before your departure, the U.S. State Department has issued a ‘Reconsider travel’ advisory for one of the countries on your itinerary. Your plan is still in effect per the terms of your policy wording for benefits including lost luggage or emergency medical costs. However, anything related to the travel advisory itself isn’t covered: you can’t cancel your trip because of the travel advisory and expect to be reimbursed for your non-refundable, pre-paid trip expenses. Nor can you get coverage for any expenses incurred because of pre-departure changes made to rescheduled portions of your itinerary to avoid restrictions from a travel advisory.
