Non-Insurance Services

Learn about the non-insurance services included alongside travel insurance benefits for US residents

At a glance

  • World Nomads has four plans available for US residents, with some plans that offer higher plan maximum amounts.
  • All World Nomads plans for US residents include additional non-insurance services
  • Additional services include a pre-departure medical consultation, a portable personal health record, and help with lost bags
  • Some additional services require you to register for them

How can the non-insurance benefits help me?

Trip protection plans from World Nomads include many benefits such as sickness and medical expense benefits, trip cancellation coverage and more. US residents also receive additional non-insurance services that are included in all plans that can assist with other situations you may encounter while traveling.

It’s important to consider potential health risks before traveling. Your World Nomads plan includes access to pre-trip medical support through Runway Health, which provides a customized medical plan based on your destination and may help you prepare for health concerns before you go. If you’re hospitalized abroad, another optional service from FootprintID®. allows medical staff to access your records 24/7. Having that information available may be critical if you experience an unexpected medical emergency while traveling.

In addition to medical situations, baggage issues are also a pretty common occurrence when flying. According to the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, more than 5% of bags are lost, damaged, delayed, or pilfered by US air carriers*. There’s a chance that your bags won’t arrive at the same time you do. Nobody wants to be sitting in an airport trying to track down bags, though. If your checked baggage is lost or delayed by an airline (any common carrier airline, anywhere in the world), our partnership with Blue Ribbon Bags helps find it and return it to you. Blue Ribbon Bags tracks and expedites your lost bags, allowing you to continue your travels as you had originally planned.

Included Non-Insurance Services in Every Plan

Important to Know

  • You must register for Runway Health and Footprint ID
  • Maximum benefit amounts apply for lost, stolen, and damaged baggage benefits
  • Benefits are only applicable to travel more than 100 miles of your home
  • Terms and conditions apply; read your plan documents to understand the coverage

Trip Prep Checklist

The non-insurance services are included in all four World Nomads plans . Think of these as extra perks that are available to you. You’ll need to take a couple of steps to activate these benefits before your trip, though. Here are a few things we recommend before leaving town.

  • Register for Runway Health

You’ll need to register for Runway Health once you purchase your plan.

  • Set up an online medical consultation

Once you’ve registered for Runway Health, you can set up your online medical consultation with one of their US-licensed physicians. They’ll then build out a custom treatment plan that includes the prescriptions you’ll need. They can prescribe medications for things like preventing malaria, altitude sickness, motion sickness, and traveler’s diarrhea. They’ll even send your medications to your doorstep if prescribed, so you don’t have to make that extra trip to the pharmacy. They can also let you know what vaccines you may need for certain parts of the world, and they can prescribe those to you as well. Medication fees may apply if prescribed through Runway Health.

  • Register for Footprint ID®

After you purchase your plan, go online and register for Footprint ID®. Hopefully, you’ll never have to use those medical records, but taking the time to set this up could be very valuable if you unexpectedly have a medical emergency while you’re traveling.

  • Save a copy of your plan document

It can be helpful to save your plan documents on your phone. Perhaps consider printing a copy as well. Also make sure you save the number for our 24/7 Non-Insurance Emergency Assistance Team and have that easily accessible – just in case.

  • Bring any medications onboard with you

When you have your medical consultation, they may prescribe medications for your trip. Instead of packing any necessary medications in your checked bag, throw those in your carry on and take them with you. Your plan may offer coverage for lost or delayed bags, but there’s no guarantee when or if you’ll be reunited with your checked bag.

FAQ

Here are our most frequently asked questions about cover for non-insurance services. You can also find the answers to other questions in our Help Center or you can ask the customer service team.

  • What happens if an airline loses my luggage?

You’ll first report your lost bags to the airline, then provide Blue Ribbon Bags with the file reference, record locator number, and Property Irregularity Report. Blue Ribbon Bags tracks and expedites your lost luggage, allowing you to continue your travels smoothly.

  • Can I get new clothes to wear until my bags are found?

Your travel insurance plan also includes coverage for delayed baggage. If your baggage is delayed for at least 12 consecutive hours, you may be reimbursed for toiletries and a change of clothes until you and your bags are reunited. Maximum benefit amounts do apply though, so this doesn’t mean you should go on a shopping spree and buy expensive designer outfits.

  • Do I need to register for Runway Health and Footprint ID®?

Yes. Once you purchase your plan from World Nomads, you’ll need to  register for Runway Health. You can then set up an online consultation and you’ll have a custom treatment plan built out that includes the prescriptions you’ll need. Medication fees may apply if prescribed through Runway Health. You’ll also need to register for Footprint ID® once you’ve purchased your plan. This is crucial information that could assist if you have a medical emergency while you’re away from home, so we recommend you to get that set up before you depart for your trip.

  • How do I know if I need vaccines for my destination?

You can register for Runway Health once you purchase your plan and then set up your online medical consultation with one of their US-licensed physicians. They can let you know what vaccines you may need for certain parts of the world, and they can prescribe those to you as well. Medication fees may apply if prescribed through Runway Health.

  • Could I share my medical records with overseas doctors if I get sick on my trip?

If you register for Footprint ID, they can. This is a secure solution that allows you to have immediate access to your medical records anywhere in the world. If you’re overseas and end up in the hospital, you’ll want your medical team to have access to this critical information. It’s important for them to know about your prescriptions, allergies, medical conditions, immunizations, surgeries, physicians, and family history. Your FootprintID® could include all of these details, and they could have access to it 24/7. This is included with all World Nomads plans, but you’ll need to register for FootprintID® once you’ve purchased your plan.

  • How much do these extra benefits cost?

The non-insurance services are included with all World Nomads travel protection plans. You don’t have to pay extra to access these additional services. However, medication fees may apply if prescribe through Runway Health. If you have questions about any of the services and what is included in your plan, feel free to contact us.
