Travel Insurance for Stolen or Lost Credit Cards

When your cards get stolen or lost and you need a replacement.

    As featured in:

  • As featured in:

Credit card theft is all too common when traveling overseas, with organised crime networks often targeting tourists.

While travel insurance isn't there to cover your card being skimmed (you've got to hit up your bank to recover those losses), some of our policies can help with the cost to replace your credit cards. And if you're  unsure what to do, all of our assistance teams can provide advice.

What's covered by travel insurance if my credit cards are stolen?

What to do if your credit card gets stolen.

It’s essential that you report the theft of your credit card to the police as soon as possible, and get it in writing for your claim.

To help our Emergency Assistance teams assist them quickly, they'll need the following:

Stolen Card in Venice Beach.

I had my passport and credit cards stolen from my bag while staying in Venice Beach, California. This is the beginning of my trip which I had prebooked and organised flights and tours from LA to other parts of America. I have missed my flight to Las Vegas from SanFrancisco and my flight from Las Vegas to Seattle. I also had to cancel accommodation in Las Vegas and San Francisco. This is due to the fact that the earliest time for me to get a replacement temporary passport and cards is too late.

I was injured in Koh Tao, Thailand in a moped accident. The moped turned over onto my foot and a sprained/injured ligaments and tendons in my left foot. I am unable to walk on my foot at all. The doctor gave me a foot in lieu of a cast, and crutches stating that I could not bear any weight on my foot for a minimum of 3 weeks. FAQ

Here are our most frequently asked questions about overseas travel accidents. You can also find the answers to other questions in our Helpdesk or you can ask our customer service team

  • Does my insurance pay for my accident upfront or do I have to pay and claim?
Who pays depends on what’s happened! If it’s an emergency situation where hospital admission and/or medical evacuation is required, the insurer may cover these costs upfront (provided the incident is covered as per the policy wording, of course). This is decided on case by case and requires pre-approval first.

Travel Insurance for Overseas Accidents

Stay protected with emergency medical and evacuation coverage in case of an accident during your travels

    As featured in:

  • As featured in:

Adventure’s calling…what’s it gonna be? Snowboarding in the Swiss Alps or scuba diving off the Canary Islands? Remember, with adventure comes the possibility of misadventure, and even the best planned trips can hit a snag when accidents occur. World Nomads offers UK travellers insurance options for those ‘just in case’ moments.

What is covered if I have a travel accident?

World Nomads offers two insurance plans: Standard and Explorer. Both plans cover medical expenses for accidents overseas, but the Explorer Plan has higher limits.

Here are some of the ways we could help UK policyholders if they have an accident while travelling:

Hospital stays: whether it’s a sprained ankle from a trek in Peru, or a case of Bali Belly, World Nomads can cover inpatient care, including emergency treatment, surgeries, and necessary overnight stays.

Out-patient surgeries: if an accident leaves you needing a quick procedure, you could be covered—minus the lengthy hospital stay.

Prescribed medications: need antibiotics after a run-in with an overzealous jellyfish while scuba diving in The Maldives? We may be able to cover the bill for that.

Medical evacuation and repatriation: sometimes, the thrill of exploring new places comes with unexpected risks. If a severe medical emergency happens while you’re overseas, we’ll help you get the care you need—no matter where that may be. World Nomads covers medical evacuations, including air ambulance transport if required, so you can get to the nearest suitable medical facility or back home with the support you need.

And while we hope you never need it, we also cover the repatriation of remains in the event of the unthinkable, easing the burden on your loved ones during difficult times.

Accidental death and dismemberment: if you get seriously hurt during your trip– and lose your sight, a limb, or even your life – you (or a designated beneficiary) can get compensated for the loss, up to the maximum benefit amount specified in your plan.

Note: the loss must have occurred within 365 days of the accident to receive benefits.

Additional Benefits for UK Travelers

Adventure and Activity Cover: 150+ Activities

Our UK policyholders love a good thrill, and we’re all for it—that’s why we offer cover for over 150 activities and sports. Got a hankering for barefoot waterskiing? Lake Como’s glassy waters in Italy are perfect for it—and yes, if you get a little wobbly and twist an ankle, we’ve got you covered (not that we wish that on anyone!).

Air Doctor: Medical Help When You Don’t Need a Hospital

For non-urgent issues, World Nomads also offers access to Air Doctor. So, if you’re exploring the Australian Outback or visiting remote villages in South America, you can connect with a doctor virtually or find one nearby. Air Doctor makes it easy to get advice, prescription refills, or minor treatments without navigating an unfamiliar healthcare system—perfect for handling those minor bumps in the road so you can get back to the adventure.

Worldwide 24-hour Emergency Medical Assistance

When exploring the world, the last thing you want to worry about is what to do in a medical emergency. That’s where our 24-hour Emergency Medical Assistance team steps in. Available around the clock, our team is here to help connect you to local medical providers, coordinate your care, and ensure you’re supported at every step.

What should I do if I have an accident while overseas?

  1. First, make sure you’re safe and out of immediate danger. Take a deep breath and evaluate any injuries or risks around you.
  2. Call our Emergency Medical Assistance Team immediately. They’re available around the clock to guide you through what to do next and can help connect you to local medical services if needed.
  3. When you call, be ready to share the following details:

- Your location: give as much information as possible about where you are, including any landmarks if you’re in a remote area.

- Nature of the emergency: describe what happened and the extent of your injuries or illness.

- Your policy number: have your World Nomads policy number handy to speed up assistance.

  1. Pre-authorisation may be required for more extensive medical expenses like surgeries or extended hospital stays. Our team will help you arrange this to ensure you’re covered, and they’ll handle direct payments to the medical provider when necessary.
  2. Keep in touch with our Emergency Medical Assistance team until you no longer require treatment or assistance.
  3. If you need to make a claim, you can do it online through your World Nomads account. It’s simple and convenient, so you can focus on getting back on your feet.

Heads-up: this travel insurance covers you over and above any state health insurance or reciprocal health agreements, like your GHIC or EHIC. If you're heading to the EEA or Switzerland, remember to bring a valid GHIC (or EHIC if you still have one) for access to state healthcare at reduced or no cost. And when your EHIC expires, just switch over to a GHIC to keep those benefits rolling.

What’s not covered if I have an accident whilst travelling?

  • If an accident happens after too many Coronas, we won’t cover you.
  • Acting a fool and breaking the law? We won’t cover that.
  • If you decide to push the limits of your policy inclusions, you’re on your own.
  • Pre-existing medical conditions
  • If you ride a motorbike without a helmet, the correct licence, or a valid CBT certificate (DL196).

This is not a complete list of what's covered and not covered. Some limits and conditions apply, so for more information, check out our articles on overseas medical coverage and adventure sports coverage, and read your policy carefully before you buy. Contact us if you’re still not sure.

Cheap isn't always the way to go.

Do you really want cheap travel insurance?

Cheap Travel Insurance is only good if it protects you for those emergencies it’s supposed to protect you for.

Going too cheap can mean you’re not covered when it matters and if you’re not covered… your trip of a lifetime can get very expensive, very fast.

That’s why at World Nomads we listened to our experienced travelers and designed the best travel insurance to match their high expectations, at an affordable price (but not the cheapest).

We’ve included the cover options you told us you couldn’t live without in every World Nomads policy including:

  1. Medical
  2. Cancellation
  3. Luggage cover
  4. 24/7 worldwide assistance

Travel insurance options that have your back

As no two travelers are alike, we’ve designed a Standard and Explorer travel insurance option so you can choose whether you pay for the extras or not.

If you’re planning to kayak the Amazon solo or throw yourself out of a plane with just a little bit of silk attached to your back, the Explorer option may be more suited to you.

Then again, you might be surprised by what is covered under the Standard travel insurance option. Just tell us who you are, where you’re going and how long you’ll be gone for and we’ll generate your instant quote with all the detail you need.

We know we’re not the cheapest, but with us you can travel with confidence, knowing you’ve got 24/7 traveler support, insider information to help you plan your trip and coverage for all the important events you’re likely to encounter.

Does Travel Insurance Cover Terrorism?

Find out how we could help if you're caught up in a terror attack.

    As featured in:

  • As featured in:

Recent world events have shocked most of us with terrorist events on our doorstep and at many of our favourite holiday destinations.

Our travellers know that staying aware at all times is key to staying safe, but there are some things you can never anticipate and a terrorist event is one of those.

What can travel insurance cover if there's a terrorist attack?

In the event of a terrorist attack, our travel insurance (Explorer Plan only) covers a number of situations like:

  • You decide to stay and travel: If you decide to stay and travel, as long as there is no directive from the Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) or a similar body recommending evacuation, your policy will continue;
  • You are forced to move to a safer place: You must be on your trip and have checked in to your original accommodation, it must be uninhabitable for at least 24 hours. We will pay up to the sum insured for the same standard of accommodation as you originally booked when your travel provider does not supply an alternative;
  • You’re injured or die in a terrorist attack:  If you’re injured or die in a terrorist attack, our policies may provide cover for emergency medical and dental assistance. You can’t have travelled against the advice of the FCDO or participated in the terrorist activity.

Our 24/7 Emergency Medical Assistance team can help you navigate next steps if you’re caught up in the chaos and aftermath of an attack and are trying to continue your trip.

What’s not covered by travel insurance if there's a terror attack?

Terrorist attacks are understandably traumatic. If you’re worried one might occur, or following an attack you want to travel elsewhere or go home, we consider that to be a change of mind and we won’t cover you for those costs. There are some exceptions to this as mentioned above.

In addition, our policy does not cover:

  • If you choose to travel to a destination to which the FCDO has advised against all travel;
  • If you change your mind;
  • If you decide to return home early;
  • If you have to leave where you are staying and leave your stuff behind you will not be able to replace it;
  • Buying a policy after the event happens will not cover you for any of the event related injuries.

You must also remember that if you knowingly put yourself in danger you may void your travel insurance.  This means if there’s a warning of a terrorist attack or you were likely to have had knowledge there might be one, and you put yourself at risk by traveling to or staying in the vicinity of that area, then your cover may be void.

The policy wording contains all conditions, exclusions and limitations to cover, so please read it carefully before you buy.

How to get help if you're hurt in a terror attack

It’s essential you contact our 24/7 Emergency Medical Assistance teams as soon as you are aware you will be admitted as an inpatient for at least one night so we can support you from the time you get injured until the time you get home.

So our teams can assist you quickly, please be ready with the following:

  • Your policy number
  • A contact number for where you are now
  • The nature of your problem
  • Your location

World Nomads travel insurance not only protects your gear; it protects your plans— because a lost bag shouldn’t stand in the way of your next great story.

How travel insurance can help if your bags are stolen or damaged

World Nomads keeps it simple for our UK travellers with two insurance plans: Standard and Explorer. Both offer coverage for stolen, delayed, and damaged luggage, but the Explorer Plan has higher limits and offers additional coverage for the accidental loss or theft of cash (provided you’ve stowed it safely).

Your policy will have very specific limits on the total value of the luggage covered and on individual items. If some items you bring exceed those limits, you might want to specify high-value items when you purchase your policy. It'll cost you more, but it may be worth it if you have to make a claim.

Our policies can cover you if your gear is:

  • Stolen or accidentally damaged
  • Stolen, lost, or accidentally damaged by a common carrier (a commercial airline, for example
  • Taken from you during an assault
  • Stolen from your private, locked accommodation and where there's visible evidence of damage and forced entry.

There are, of course, conditions on how cover applies. For example, we won't cover your electronics or jewellery if they are part of checked-in luggage. Read through the policy wording so there are no surprises.

Additional Benefits for UK Travelers

Annual Multi-Trip Policy

Our Annual Multi-Trip (AMT) policy offers unmatched flexibility for UK travellers with a serious case of wanderlust. Whether hopping to France for a weekend or jetting off to Southeast Asia for a few weeks, AMT covers your baggage and personal belongings on each trip—without the hassle of buying a new policy every time you travel.

Medical Coverage and Emergency Assistance

When you’re exploring far from home, having emergency medical coverage can be a lifesaver—literally. For digital nomads and frequent travellers, unexpected health issues can turn your plans upside down. That’s why World Nomads provides 24/7 emergency medical assistance so UK travellers can get immediate help when needed.

Smart Delay

Nobody likes a delayed flight—especially when you’re stuck between connections at a bustling airport. With World Nomads’ Smart Delay feature, UK travellers get extra support if their flights or connections are held up beyond a specific time. Think of it as a travel buffer: Smart Delay helps cover essentials like food and refreshments, so you’re not left out of pocket while waiting for things to get back on track.

What should I do if my baggage is stolen during transit?

No one wants to lose their belongings; it’s frustrating and heartbreaking. If someone nicks your gear, it’s imperative you get on the front foot…fast. Here are some steps you should take right away:

  1. Report it wherever it was stolen (public transport, accommodation, public venue etc.). Be sure to ask for written evidence.
  2. Report it to the police.
  3. Gather your receipts and supporting documents.
  4. Contact us.

Keep your baggage safe.

While stealthy thieves and misplaced bags are a reality of travel, there are a few simple tips and tricks you can keep in mind while travelling to help reduce the risk of losing your most valued possessions.

From always packing and carrying your bags to safeguarding your bags with zip ties, follow these essential tips from travellers on keeping your belongings safe while you travel.

Ready to pack your bags? You can get a quote for both single and annual multi-trip plans and decide which suits your needs best.

What’s Not Covered

Our policy for UK residents doesn’t cover several items, and if you don’t look after your belongings properly, you may not be covered either.

  • We can't cover your belongings if you don’t keep them safe and secure or accidentally leave them behind (so don’t leave your camera in the taxi in Australia—we won’t cover it).
  • Report any loss to the police or relevant authority within 24 hours—get a written report!
  • If another insurance policy covers your item or it’s recoverable from another source, we cannot help.
  • Baggage delays on your way back to the UK aren’t covered.
  • We don’t cover items like bicycles, items made from glass or china, dentures or hearing aids.
  • We love adventure, but gear used during sports or activities isn’t covered.

This is not a complete list of what's covered and not covered. There are item limits and conditions that apply, so for more information, check out our article on baggage cover and personal effects and read your policy carefully before you buy.

Beware of the Singing Girl.

My wife and I were travelling through South America. We had just arrived in the main bus station in Arequipa, Peru at approximately 7pm, after travelling overnight from the north of Chile. We sat down on the public seating at the bus station whilst waiting for a friend to book an onward ticket. I was sat on the end of the isle of seats with my day bag by the side of my feet. A child of about the age of 9 years came up to us from the opposite direction and spoke to us in Spanish. We both looked at her whilst trying to understand what she said. After decyphering that she wanted to sing us a song and subsequently declining her offer, she wandered off. At this point I looked down at my bags to discover that my day bag had gone. We obviously immediately looked around, could not see the bag anywhere. We asked the other people sat around if they had seen anything, but no one had. The little girl was nowhere to be seen. As we had been on the go for over 24 hours and were extremely tired and now extremely upset, we left and checked into a hostel. The next morning we lodged a report with the tourist police who informed us that there had been a police counter at the station. At the time though it had not even occurred to me that we could make a report at the station itself. After 3 months of travelling through South America with not a single problem and with only 5 days left until flying home this has not been the most pleasant way to finish our holiday!

FAQ

Here are our most frequently asked questions about buying travel insurance for baggage. You can also find the answers to other questions in our Helpdesk or you can ask our customer service team.

  • Can I claim my baggage while I'm travelling?

UK residents claim online while travelling or when returning home. We encourage you to submit your claim at your earliest convenience or within 60 days from the date of loss. Plus, submitting your claim as soon as possible means less of a chance you’ll misplace your receipts or other required documentation.

  • Do my items get depreciated?
Travel insurance is about replacing what was lost, not helping you update your cameras or wardrobe. Depreciation happens to match the claim to the item's current price, not the original retail price.
  • Am I covered if I lose my passport?
Our travel insurance plans may be able to help you with getting an emergency passport. Sometimes, your travel insurance may not cover you, like if you leave your passport behind. Read through your plan wording carefully to become familiar with how your policy can and cannot help in these situations, and read our help centre article about lost and stolen passports.
  • I have a high-value camera. Does your travel insurance cover it?
While both Standard and Explorer plans can offer cover for your high value items, an additional premium is required. High value items are subject to per item and maximum benefit limits. Always read your plan wording carefully to ensure you have adequate cover for your needs. Still not sure? Contact us, and we will help you determine what’s best for your circumstances.

Does Travel Insurance Cover Existing Medical Conditions?

Most of our policies don’t cover existing medical conditions, so don’t assume you’re covered

    As featured in:

  • As featured in:

At World Nomads, we believe that having an existing medical condition shouldn't prevent Australians from exploring the world. Whether you're surfing in Bali, road-tripping through New Zealand, or indulging in the culinary delights of Paris, it's crucial to understand how your health status impacts your travel insurance.

This guide will help you navigate coverage options for existing medical conditions.

What is an existing medical condition?

An existing medical condition is any medical condition which you've had at the time you buy a travel insurance policy with World Nomads. It includes conditions that are:

  • Chronic or ongoing
  • Displaying current symptoms
  • Awaiting or undergoing treatment, surgery, or medical investigation
  • Metastatic or terminal
  • Diagnosed or treated within the last six months
  • A condition that emerges or is treated during a home visit to Australia while your trip is temporarily paused

Can you get cover for an existing medical condition?

World Nomads offers two travel insurance plans—Standard and Explorer—both of which automatically cover over 40 common existing medical conditions if you meet the specific coverage criteria. You can find the complete list in the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS).

Examples of covered conditions:

Asthma: Covered if you're under 60, haven’t been hospitalized for it in the past two years, and don’t have other respiratory conditions.

Diabetes (Type I & II): Covered if diagnosed more than six months ago, blood sugar levels are stable, there have been no recent complications, and no cardiovascular disease.

Migraines: Covered if you haven’t been hospitalized for them in the last two years.

Epilepsy: Covered if there have been no recent hospitalizations, no medication changes, and no underlying conditions.

What we cover

  • Pre-trip cancellation expenses
  • Doctor visits overseas
  • Overseas hospitalizations
  • Medication abroad
  • Medical evacuation or repatriation to Australia

Pro Tip: Before buying travel insurance, thoroughly review the criteria for existing medical condition coverage to avoid unexpected expenses.

What is not covered?

While travel insurance provides essential protection, it does not cover every medical situation. Exclusions include:

  • Undeclared existing medical conditions: If you don’t declare a condition, any claims related to it may be denied.
  • Medical expenses in Australia: Once you return home, all healthcare costs are your responsibility.
  • Pre-existing conditions not meeting automatic coverage criteria: If your condition isn’t listed or you don’t meet the eligibility requirements, you won’t be covered for related claims.
  • Medical issues occurring before purchasing insurance: If you fall ill abroad and then buy travel insurance, it won’t cover you retroactively.

Note: If you purchase insurance after leaving Australia, a 72-hour waiting period applies. Any illness or injury occurring within this period may be classified as an existing medical condition for the duration of your policy.

Tips for travellers with existing medical conditions

To travel safely and confidently, follow these expert recommendations:

  • Consult your GP: Get medical clearance before booking your trip to ensure you're fit to travel.
  • Be transparent: Declare all medical conditions during the purchase process to prevent claim denials.
  • Read your policy thoroughly: Understanding your policy coverage prevents unwanted surprises.
  • Carry medical documentation: Bring copies of prescriptions, medical records, and a doctor's note to assist in emergencies.
  • Plan for emergencies: Have a list of emergency contacts and identify nearby hospitals at your destination.

Whether your condition ends up covered or not, it's better to know exactly what's included (or excluded) before you leave home.

What is a pre-existing medical condition?

An existing medical condition is any health issue you’ve experienced before buying your travel insurance policy with World Nomads.

Specifically, it includes conditions that are:

  • Chronic or ongoing
  • Displaying current symptoms
  • Awaiting or undergoing investigation, treatment, or surgery
  • Diagnosed or treated within the last six months (including surgeries)
  • A medical condition that develops symptoms, is diagnosed, or treated while you're back in your Country of Residence during a home visit that interrupts your trip.

Can I get cover for pre-existing medical conditions?

Depending on your Country of Residence, our policies may not always cover pre-existing medical conditions, so it's important to double-check the specifics in your policy information.

However, in most instances, even if your pre-existing condition isn't covered, you may still be covered for other unexpected travel mishaps—as long as they're not related to that pre-existing condition. This includes cover for, and not limited to, the following:

Our policy may also cover cancellation if, after you purchase it and before you start your trip, you, or someone whose health your trip depends on suffers a serious illness or injury.

Traveller's tip: do your homework and identify any pre-existing condition coverage before purchasing travel insurance. You don’t want to get sick overseas and realise you’re not covered. Check the criteria for pre-existing conditions carefully, and contact us for clarification if you have any doubts. We’re always happy to help.

What isn’t covered?

Travel insurance isn’t designed to cover everything—especially regarding pre-existing illnesses. World Nomads won’t cover:

  • Existing medical conditions: unless you’ve declared them, listed them in your travel insurance policy, and met all coverage criteria. Cover is dependent on your Country of Residence.
  • Overseas medical expenses: once you return home, all medical costs are on you.
  • Previous insured medical issues: you cannot claim expenses relating to conditions relating to previously insured events—unless you meet the automatic cover criteria.
  • Overseas illness before you bought your policy: if you got sick abroad and then promptly bought travel insurance hoping to make a claim—we’ll save you the hassle right now…you're not covered.

Note: if you purchased cover after you left home, there’s a waiting period of 72 hours before the insurance takes effect. Any illness or injury occurring during this waiting period may be considered a pre-existing medical condition for the remaining period of your insurance. Please note that cover is dependent on your Country of Residence.

Tips for travellers with pre-existing medical conditions

  • Consult your GP: before booking your trip, consult your doctor to confirm your condition is stable enough for travel.
  • Be upfront: honesty is the best policy when it comes to your medical history. Declare your pre-existing conditions during purchase—it's the only way to avoid claim headaches.
  • Read your policy: we're not just saying this to tick a box—we genuinely want you to have an awesome trip and fully understand what your travel insurance covers (and, importantly, what it doesn’t).
  • Carry medical documents: having a medical emergency in a foreign hospital can be stressful. But having copies of prescriptions, medical records, and a doctor’s letter explaining your condition can make treatment much easier for everyone involved.
  • Plan for emergencies: create a game plan, including a list of emergency contacts and local hospitals before travelling.

New Diagnosis in Mexico.

I realized I had forgotten a medication (clonazepam) which I take for insomnia. I visited a doctor in Mexico City the next day and got a prescription for the medication. However, he also diagnosed me with a condition that I was not aware of (hyperthyroid) and suggested that the medication would help with the condition on a short-term basis. He suggested that I get a blood test for hyperthyroid, which I just did in Boston.

Does Travel Insurance Cover Pre-existing Conditions?

Most of our policies don’t cover pre-existing conditions, so don’t assume you’re covered.

    As featured in:

  • As featured in:

For information relating to policies purchased prior to 27 June 2024, please check the Policy Wording provided with your purchase. You can contact us if you need this sent to you again. For policies purchased from 27 June 2024, please see below.

We do not offer a policy under the following circumstances:

  • If you have been diagnosed with a terminal illness.
  • If you are travelling intending to receive medical treatment.
  • If you are travelling against the advice of a medical practitioner or would be travelling against their advice if you asked for it.

Having a pre-existing medical condition isn't a reason to stop travelling, but it can affect your travel insurance and what you’re covered for. Whether you're travelling off the grid or blogging in it, it's best to know if we can cover your pre-existing medical condition before your travel, so you're not caught unaware.

What is a pre-existing medical condition?

A pre-existing medical condition is any medical or dental condition, or related complication that has required or is awaiting medical advice, diagnosis, treatment, prescribed medication, consultations, check-ups, surgery, tests or investigations in the 180 days before you buy or extend your policy or book your trip (whichever you do last).

It’s important that you read your policy wording and its specific definition of 'pre-existing medical condition' and determine if the cover offered will meet your needs.

In addition, if you took out cover after you left home, there is a waiting period of 72 hours before the insurance takes effect. Any illness or injury that occurs before or during this waiting period may be considered a pre-existing medical condition for the remaining period of your insurance.

Change in health?

If you have a change in health after policy purchase, you will need to provide medical confirmation from your General Practitioner that you were fit to travel, should you later need to claim.

What can travel insurance cover if not pre-existing medical conditions?

Our policies do not cover pre-existing medical conditions, but they still offer cover for many events that can take place while on the road, as long as the event is not as a result of the pre-existing medical condition(s). This includes cover for:

  • Baggage and personal belongings
  • Medical, including evacuation and repatriation for unexpected illnesses and accidental injuries that are not pre-existing medical conditions
  • Trip Disruption
  • Lost or damaged passports, licenses or other travel documents

Our policies may also cover your cancellation expenses if, after you’ve purchased the policy and before you've started your trip, you or someone else on whom your trip depends suffers a serious illness or injury which is not a pre-existing medical condition.

Is Coronavirus a pre-existing medical condition?

It can be if hospital admission is required.

To find out more about Coronavirus (COVID-19) coverage for your Country of Residence, select your Country in the top left hand corner of this screen. Or to read more about what cover applies to you, read our What’s Covered for Coronavirus article which has all of the details, including benefit limits, conditions and exclusions.

Coverage depends on your Country of Residence and varies between plans.

What's not covered by World Nomads Travel Insurance?

Travel insurance isn’t designed to cover everything. The main things that aren’t covered are:

  • Pre-existing medical conditions, as defined in the policy wording
  • Any medical expenses once you return home
  • The cough/cold/flu you caught right before you remembered to buy a policy.

This isn't a full list of what's covered and not covered. There are item limits, conditions and exclusions that apply, so for more information check out our article on pre-existing medical conditions and read your policy wording carefully before you buy. If you’re not sure if something is covered get in touch.

If your pre-existing medical condition isn't covered (as explained in your policy wording) and you're not worried about covering it, you can still purchase a policy online through World Nomads. Just be aware there's no cover for any claim made as a result of it.
