Winter break can be a great time to disconnect from school or work, to spend time with friends or family or enjoy some solo travel. Whether you are looking to get out into the fresh winter air for some skiing or snowboarding, or you prefer to get out of the cold and into the sunshine, it may be a good idea to consider including travel insurance in your winter travel planning.

World Nomads was designed by travelers for travelers, so we include things in our plans that are important to us when we travel. From emergency medical and baggage to trip cancellation and 24/7 emergency assistance, we can have you covered.

What can travel insurance cover during the winter holidays?

  • Medical and dental emergencies, (like a sudden illness or a skiing or snowboarding accident).
  • Emergency medical evacuation and repatriation (if you’re hurt far away from adequate facilities, our Emergency Assistance team can help get you to better facilities and even back home in a dire situation).
  • Trip cancellation (if a last minute emergency like an illness or injury prevents you from taking your winter holiday).
  • Trip delay (watch out for winter weather that can wreak havoc on airline schedules).
  • Delayed, lost or damaged luggage (for example, if your airline loses your skis that you’ve checked in, we may be able to reimburse your rental).
  • More than 150 sports and adventure activities, including skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing for the winter sports enthusiasts; and snorkeling, sailing, SCUBA and surfing for travelers chasing their endless summer.

Cover for some Coronavirus-related events for your next trip abroad

It’s important to know what you’re covered for when heading on your next winter trip.

The level of coverage you’ll have for any Coronavirus (COVID-19)-related event under our Standard and Explorer plans will depend on your Country of Residence. If you are diagnosed with COVID-19 while overseas, your benefits may include:

  • 24/7 access to our Emergency Assistance team, who can help you access local medical care;
  • Medical costs including hospitalization;
  • Evacuation or repatriation if deemed medically necessary by us and in consultation with your attending medical practitioner.

To find out what cover applies to you, select your country of residence and read our What’s Covered for Coronavirus article, which has all of the details, including benefit limits, conditions and exclusions.

What is not covered by travel insurance?

Routine medical consultations and check-ups.

Getting hurt if you’ve taken drugs or overindulged in alcohol (you have a responsibility to keep yourself safe too!).

Extreme sports (check your policy for a list of excluded sports).

Flights missed because you haven’t allowed enough time to check in and go through security.

Our policies aren’t designed to cover everything, so take the time to read the terms, conditions, limitations and exclusions in the policy wording for full details so that there are no surprises if you need to use it. If you’re not sure if something is covered, get in touch.

Be prepared.

So that our Emergency Assistance teams can assist you quickly, please be ready with the following:

  • Your policy number
  • A contact number for where you are now
  • The nature of your problem
  • Your location
  • Prescribed medication (if any)
