If someone you care about gets sick or injured, we get it – you just want to go home. It’s times like these you’re thankful you have travel insurance. It may help with some of the associated costs of having to interrupt or cancel your trip – along with the support you need to make it happen. World Nomads has four plans – Standard, Explorer, Epic and Annual – each offering different coverages and benefit maximums. Whichever plan you purchased for your trip, follow these steps when you can’t travel and want to get home to Canada. They’ll help you avoid unnecessary costs, gather the right evidence, and keep your claim hassle free.

  1. Rearrange or cancel your bookings

Learn about covered reasons for cancellationsinterruptions and delays as it pertains to your World Nomads travel insurance plan. Then, contact us immediately and no later than the next business day. Once you know that you won’t be able to travel, call your travel provider to try to reschedule any accommodations, transportation or tours that you’ve already paid for — and as a last resort, cancel.

  1. Get it in writing

If you’re planning to make a claim, you’ll need to submit doctor or medical practitioners’ reports confirming illnesses or injuries, along with any ambulance reports, hospital admission reports and other relevant medical documentation.

  1. Keep your receipts

You’ll need to keep your receipts, itineraries and booking and cancellation confirmations, including details of any refunds received for any affected transport and accommodation.
