Travel insurance for travel to Brazil
Trusted by:
Travelling to Brazil offers an incredible opportunity to experience a vibrant culture and adventure experience, including Rio de Janeiro's world-famous Carnival, adventure sports at famous destinations like the Copacabana, exotic wildlife in the rainforest and pristine beaches like Praia do Sancho.
Whether you’re heading to Brazil for the beaches, adventure sports or rainforest and wildlife, a World Nomads policy can offer cover for your trip. Benefits available include:
It’s common to have to put down deposits on lodging, tours, excursions, and transportation because so many Canadian travellers visit Brazil. Travel insurance may protect your non-refundable and prepaid outlays should you need to cancel your trip because of a covered reason listed in your policy like a sick parent.
Also, a World Nomads plan may cover your emergency medical expenses if you become ill or injured while abroad, provide trip interruption benefits if caused by covered reasons like strike or missed connection, and offer luggage loss protection and coverage for sports like SCUBA, cycling or windsurfing.
Because you will have to take a connecting flight from Canada to Brazil, your travel insurance policy provides a safety net in case your bags decide to vacation in Mexico, or somewhere else, or are permanently lost or stolen. Coverage for baggage includes:
Theft of your personal possessions may also be covered by your World Nomads policy. If you’re the victim of theft, you must report the theft to your tour leader or law enforcement agencies such as the police and obtain written documented evidence such as a police report. You will need this when you submit your claim.
You should remember that negligent behavior may not be covered by travel insurance. For example, if you had too many caipirinhas, and were intoxicated and you left your camera behind at a beach bar, this loss may not be covered.
Travel tips to help protect you
When traveling to Brazil or other foreign countries, it’s very important to purchase travel insurance with emergency medical cover as your Canadian health insurance won’t cover your medical expenses while you're outside Canada.
So if you suffer a concussion while zip-lining in the rainforest, or if you faint while touring city centers in extreme heat, Travel Insurance can help cover the cost of seeing a doctor in Brazil, emergency medications prescribed by a licensed physician and even transport you to a trauma center or back to Canada for escalated medical treatment if needed.
Note: Canadians must be covered under their Government Health Insurance Plan (GHIP) in their home province for the entire duration of the trip to be eligible for the maximum emergency medical expenses benefit.
If you are in Brazil on holiday, and require emergency medical treatment, our 24/7 emergency team is ready to assist and may be able arrange payment for medical care and make medical referrals. They can also help with document replacement, translation services and more.
In the event of a serious medical issue, we are here to help and can organize repatriation back to Canada when recommended by your attending Physician.
Beyond culture and relaxation, our Canadian Nomads choose Brazil for its adventurous pursuits on water and land. Activities include tours in the rainforest, chartering boats, specialized excursions of the iconic Amazon, trekking in the sprawling mountains, and even SCUBA adventures.
Brazil boasts recreation opportunities like hiking, trekking, surfing, rappelling, zip-lining, canoeing, mountain biking, windsurfing and more. Be sure to list all of your activities when you purchase your policy to ensure you have coverage. Some activities are automatically included in the Standard and Explorer Plans, however some activities require an optional upgrade.
Be sure your activities are being led by a certified instructor and that you have the appropriate equipment to promote the safest experience.
World Nomads travel insurance policies may cover you should you become ill or injured while visiting Brazil and participating in a covered sport or activity. Coverage includes:
