Going on an underwater adventure?

Calm waters, crystal clear visibility and a bulletproof dive plan might make for the perfect underwater adventure, but accidents can happen. Whether you're learning or you’ve done hundreds of dives, World Nomads travel insurance can help take the pressure off you and your family if the unexpected sinks your next dive trip.

What types of dives are covered?

As passionate divers ourselves, we’ve designed our plans to cover dives from the Great Blue Hole to The Yongala, and we can offer cover for:

  • Recreational scuba diving (qualified divers up to 50m on some plans)
  • Discover scuba dives (with qualified instructors)
  • Shark cage diving, cavern, cave and wreck diving (some plans only, check yours carefully)
  • Snorkeling, island escapes, live-aboard trips and more.

Keep in mind that all plans are different and may require an additional premium when going scuba diving to specific depths depending on the plan chosen and your Country of Residence. Terms, conditions, limits, and exclusions apply. Read the policy wording carefully to choose the right plan and/or adventure sport option for your trip.

Choosing the right policy for you

We offer two plans – Standard and Explorer – each of which offers different levels of coverage. It is up to you to choose what plan has the right level of coverage to meet your travel needs and that matches your specific scuba diving plans.

For more information on what you may be covered for, check out our article on specific coverage when scuba diving. Make sure you add in your country of residence for accurate information.

Cover for your scuba diving gear

We know that scuba diving equipment such as scuba tanks, fins BCD and regulator, underwater film and photography equipment can be expensive, so we can offer cover for high-value items.

We also offer cover for your baggage in general so if your baggage or scuba diving gear is delayed, lost and/or damaged, you may be able to claim for a replacement, reimbursement or delay up to a per item and total maximum limit. Terms and conditions apply so be sure to check the policy wording and contact us if you have any questions.

Your coverage will vary according to your Country of Residence and whether you choose a Standard or an Explorer PlanRead your policy wording for details on maximum benefit limits, exclusions, and the terms and conditions of your coverage.

If your gear is delayed, lost or damaged, you must report the incident as soon as possible to a responsible officer for the carrier. Make sure you get a Property Irregularity Report, or a similar official report, in writing and make a claim directly with the carrier before making a claim.

Cover for medical emergencies

Your health and safety are a priority when you’re exploring the ocean, which is why our plans cover emergency medical expenses should you become sick, get into an accident or get hurt whilst diving or snorkelling.

Cover for medical evacuation

You might be on a reef far from medical assistance on your dive, and our policies include coverage if you need to be evacuated to a medical facility.

Emergency assistance 24/7

Having an emergency in a foreign country can be overwhelming but buying a World Nomads policy means you’ll have access to our 24/7 Emergency Assistance team. Our Emergency Assistance team can facilitate a range of services in whatever part of the world you’re traveling, can speak multiple languages and they’re available 365 days a year.

Scuba diving: What’s not covered

While we can offer coverage for a lot of scuba diving events, there are also things we just won’t cover. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Any unaccompanied dive, any dive for gain or reward, any dive which takes you deeper than your current qualification limits, or any dive deeper than 50 metres under any circumstance – sorry, but that’s a no-go for us.
  • If you travel against medical advice or neglect to adhere to government ‘Do Not Travel’ warnings issued prior to departure.
  • Any pre-existing medical condition unless otherwise expressly stated in your policy.
  • Participation in a sport or activity not listed as covered in the policy wording or agreed by World Nomads or where you haven’t paid the required additional premium.
  • Expenses you incur after you return to your Country of Residence.
  • Working or participating professionally in any activity or sport.

Handy tips for safe scuba diving

  • Only dive if you are fit to do so. You may need to consult your medical practitioner before going scuba diving and get a ‘fit to travel’ approval
  • Check all your gear to ensure everything is in good working order and then do a buddy check of your fellow divers. (Note: many products do not cover gear while in use.)
  • Only dive with reputable companies using licensed, seaworthy boats and well-maintained dive equipment. Make sure you check your instructor's credentials.
  • When scuba diving with a group, listen to your instructor or dive guide regarding the planned route and what to look out for

This is only a summary of cover and does not include the full terms, conditions, limitations and exclusions of the policy. You should read your policy wording in full, so you understand what is and isn’t covered. That way there won’t be any surprises if you need to use it. If you have any questions, please get in touch.

What is Travel Insurance?

Unsure how travel insurance works, and why you might need it? Get your answers here.

    As featured in:

  • As featured in:

Travel insurance is often the last thing we want to think about when packing for our escape. However, there are many unforeseen events that can turn your trip into a nightmare. That's where travel insurance is designed to help.

Travel insurance is designed to help cover your expenses if something goes wrong before or during your trip. Travel insurance can provide financial protection against these unforeseen events that could disrupt your travel plans.

Also, your personal health insurance may not cover costs while traveling out of the country or might exclude certain activities. With travel insurance, you can explore your boundaries (within reason, of course) and still have cover available.

Traveler tip: travel insurance is not a substitute for your primary health insurance and won't cover non-essential overseas medical treatment, such as routine exams.

What else do I need to know when buying travel insurance?

When you buy travel insurance World Nomads may agree to cover costs (up to a certain limit) for things like emergency medical treatment, damaged or stolen luggage, delayed flights, or non-refundable expenses should you have to unexpectedly cancel your trip. Your cover will depend on your country of residence and what plan you have chosen.

World Nomads travel insurance typically offers benefits such as:

Travel insurance isn't designed to cover everything. Full terms, conditions, limitations and exclusions do apply, so be sure to read your full policy to avoid surprises. If you have any questions, please get in touch.

How does World Nomads provide added benefits?

  • Coverage for many events: from medical emergencies to flight delays, natural disasters, lost bags, and cover for adventure activities, World Nomads travel insurance covers a wide range of potential risks.
  • Flexibility: purchase or extend your travel insurance coverage even after your trip has started.
  • Emergency Medical Assistance: emergency help for a range of medical and non-medical events.
  • Community Support: contribute to local community projects and make a positive impact on the environment and people’s lives through microdonations.

Did you know travel insurance covers...

You can also buy away from home or buy more cover if you extend your trip. Plus, you can claim online anytime, anywhere in the world.

What travel insurance plans do you offer?

At World Nomads, we have made choosing a travel insurance plan less time-consuming and stressful by offering simple and flexible travel insurance plans with different levels of cover depending on your travel needs.

Standard Plan: includes a range of benefits such as overseas medical, coverage for your belongings, pre-trip cancellation and certain adventure activities.

Explorer Plan: has all the benefits of a Standard Plan and a few more, but it is more expensive.

You can buy World Nomads travel insurance cover anytime, anywhere. Plus, if you decide to stay longer somewhere or want to change direction on a whim, we are happy to extend your policy as long as it’s done before 11.59pm on the end date for your home country shown on your Certificate of Insurance.

Traveler tip: if you buy a policy while traveling overseas, you must wait 72 hours before any cover is activated. The maximum trip duration available on a Single Trip policy, including extensions, is 12 months from the start date.

Check out our Standard vs Explorer article for information on coverage, benefit limits, terms and conditions and exclusions.

What's covered and what's not?

The full list of things we cover is too long to include here, but in general our policies offer cover for:

  • Overseas emergency medical and dental expenses
  • Emergency medical evacuation
  • Trip delay, cancellation, or interruption due to an unforeseen event
  • Delayed, damaged or stolen gear or bags if they've been checked in with a carrier
  • Coverage for some COVID-19 medical and travel related events, but please note coverage depends on your Country of Residence and may vary between plans. To find out what cover applies to you, read our What’s Covered for Coronavirus article, which has all of the details, including benefit limits, conditions and exclusions.

Here are the main things that aren't covered:

  • Expenses related to pre-existing medical conditions unless your policy says otherwise
  • Non-emergency medical expenses, such as eyeglasses or contact lenses, routine medical check-ups or cosmetic procedures
  • Items left unsupervised in a public place
  • Gear damaged while in use.

How do I choose the right type of travel insurance for my needs?

Choosing the right travel insurance involves considering your specific needs and comparing different policies. Here are five tips to help you make the best choice:

  1. Assess your needs: Determine what kind of coverage you need based on your destination, country of residence, activities, medical history, and personal circumstances. For example, if you're planning an adventure trip, look for policies that cover sports injuries.
  2. Compare plans: Consider whether our Standard vs Explorer plans cover the types of events that you are looking to be covered; for example, overseas medical emergencies or trip cancellation. Additionally, be sure to pay attention to the limits and exclusions of the policy to ensure that you're comfortable with them.
  3. Single trip vs Annual Multi-Trip: Make sure you choose a policy that covers you for the entire duration of your trip if it’s a single trip, and always be mindful of the end date of your trip. Depending on your country of residence we may offer Annual Multi-Trip (AMT) plans. If you do plan to take multiple trips throughout the year, consider the AMT plan instead of buying several single trip policies. AMT policies have shorter trip duration limits, so ensure your entire trip will be covered by your AMT policy.
  4. Read the fine print: Understand the policy's terms and conditions, including what is and isn’t covered. Pay attention to exclusions and coverage limits.
  5. Look for add-ons: Consider additional coverage options such as high value items, rental vehicle insurance excess, trip interruption, or coverage for specific activities such as Snow Sports. Options available vary by country of residence.

What does my travel insurance cover?

Examples of when travel insurance is needed

Pre-Trip example:

  • Trip Cancellation: You’ve booked a non-refundable trip to Thailand, but a sudden illness forces you to cancel before your trip departure date. Travel insurance can reimburse you for your pre-paid, non-refundable expenses, saving you from financial loss.

On-Trip examples:

  • Medical Emergency: While hiking in the Alps, you sprain your ankle and need medical attention. Travel insurance offers cover for emergency medical expenses and any additional accommodation costs due to the injury.
  • Lost Luggage: Your checked luggage gets lost on your way to Paris. Travel insurance compensates you for the lost items and the cost of purchasing essential replacements.

This is only a summary of cover and does not include the full terms, conditions, limitations and exclusions of the policy. You should read your policy wording in full, so you understand what is and isn’t covered. That way there won’t be any surprises if you need to use it. If you have any questions, please get in touch

With flexible travel insurance that covers more than 150 activities, sports and experiences, it’s no wonder expats keep turning to World Nomads for travel insurance for their overseas getaways and holiday breaks.

Travel insurance for expats

World Nomads was founded by, and is operated by, people who have lived and worked overseas. We know that one of the best things about being an expat is the opportunity to explore neighboring countries and places.

There are three main reasons expats keep coming back to World Nomads for their travel insurance:

1) Flexible travel insurance

We know it’s not easy finding travel insurance when you’re not living in your home country, so have designed our travel insurance to be flexible, so you can purchase it for as long, or as little, as you need.

2) Accessible online travel insurance even after you’ve left home

Our travel insurance is available to most nationalities living or travelling outside of their country of residence. You can purchase online using a credit card as you don’t have to be in your country of residence to purchase it; however there are some conditions to this, so please check the policy before purchasing.

3) All the essentials you need covered, and more

World Nomads designed its travel insurance around what our travellers most often claim for and tell us they want. In addition we cover more than 150 activities and events.

This is only a summary of cover and does not include the full terms, conditions, limits, and exclusions of the policy. You should read your policy wording in full, so you understand what is and isn’t covered. If you are unsure about your level of travel cover, please contact us for help.

This isn't health insurance!

Expats must be aware this is travel insurance not health insurance.

This means it will not cover you for ongoing medical care. It also excludes many pre-existing medical conditions as well as any medical treatment that is not considered necessary by our medical specialists. If you’re not sure if you’ll be covered for something, contact us and we can help.

Broken glass shards.

At 12:00 in the afternoon after a yoga class, I took a large jar of coconut water from the fridge, and accidentally dropped it on the counter and slipped onto the broken glass shards. I slipped while holding a jar. I hit my left wrist on the broken glass shards and had cut wound as a result. I looked at it quickly, saw open flesh flapping, wrapped it in a clean towel and called a taxi to go to the hospital as soon as possible. I had pain and numbness in my right wrist. No neck injury, no head injury, no other injuries apparent.

Travel insurance benefits for long term travelers

Our policies come with loads of benefits, depending on the policy you buy. Whether you’re going on a long trip or a short trip, all of our policies provide cover for:

  • Trip cancellation and trip interruption if you get sick or injured at the last minute and need to make a change.
  • Emergency medical treatment, like an urgent visit to the doctor, medicine to help you get well, x-rays and hospital stays.
  • Emergency medical evacuation if you get really sick and need to be transported somewhere with better facilities.
  • Emergency repatriation if you need to be flown home to receive better care, or to bring your body back to your home country if you die overseas (it’s terrible to think about, but it happens).
  • Delayed, lost or stolen baggage.

Who might want to buy travel insurance for a long trip?

Travelers of all ages might be interested in purchasing a long stay travel insurance policy. Here are a few examples:

  • College students going on study abroad who want to travel in between quarters or semesters.
  • Working holiday makers and digital nomads.
  • Backpackers and road-trippers on a long-term holiday.
  • Digital nomads making the most of work and play.
  • New retirees heading out to explore the world with their newfound freedom.
  • Families traveling for the summer holidays.

How long can travel insurance cover me for?

Our policies are designed to be flexible . We offer long-duration policies and allow travelers to extend their cover or buy more cover while they’re on the road.

Depending on your country of residence, you can buy a World Nomads travel insurance policy for a maximum duration of six or 12 months.

To find out how long we can cover you for, select your country of residence and get a quote. While there, you can also compare our two plans, Standard and Explorer, and download the full policy wording before you buy.

What if I don’t know how long I want to travel for?

If you’re planning on exploring the world for a while, but you don’t know how long you’ll be gone for, don’t fret. You have a couple of options to ensure you’re covered while you’re away:

  • Extend your policy: You can extend most of our policies online and from overseas while traveling, as long as you extend it before it expires. Terms and conditions, and limitations apply so check the policy wording details before you purchase to make sure this will suit your needs.
  • Purchase a new policy: If your policy has expired, you can purchase a new travel insurance policy while you’re still traveling. What’s not covered by travel insurance?

All travel insurance policies have exclusions and limitations. Here are some of ours - we won't provide cover for:

  • Anything illegal (you didn’t really think we’d cover that did you?) Be sure to respect both the local laws and mores of your host countries.
  • Medical evacuation or repatriation for any incidents related to drug and alcohol abuse, or that is not pre-authorized by a physician.
  • Trip cancellation for events that occurred before your policy was purchased (natural disaster, strike, etc.).
  • Not having visas or passports issued on time or not properly fulfilling the entry requirements of your destination.
  • Leaving your gear behind, or not keeping an eye on your things and they get stolen.
  • Non-emergency treatment that can wait until you return home (remember it's not regular health insurance; it's for medical emergencies).
  • Some pre-existing conditions, especially those not stable and controlled.
  • Cancelling your trip due to fear of travel or just changing your mind.

This is not a full list of what's covered and not covered. There are terms, limits, conditions and exclusions that may apply. Always read your policy carefully before you buy and make sure it’s right for you and if you have more questions get in touch.

Severed Nerve

I was opening a bag of potatoes with a knife. The knife slipped and cut my finger on my left hand. I attended the local emergency department in Aix-en-Provence at no charge (and was) referred to Clinique Axium the following day. I underwent micro surgery and had two follow up appointments at the Clinique, along with having a specialised splint made to keep my finger in a bent position to enable healing.

Online Travel Insurance

Online instant confirmation for the time poor.

    As featured in:

  • As featured in:

There’s one thing our travelers all say they want more of… more time. More time planning their trip, more time at their destinations and much more time relaxing and enjoying their adventure.

No one tells us they want to spend their precious time sorting out travel insurance, but they know it’s a consideration, whether they be a backpacker, long term traveler or gap student.

Online Travel Insurance

All we need is some basic information on who you are, where you’re going and how long you’ll be gone for, and we’ll generate your instant quote outlining your travel insurance coverage and limitations.

To give you certainty of coverage and confidence in traveling, we’ve made sure all our online travel insurance options include:

We’ve also designed it in an easy-to-understand format, clearly outlining the Standard and Explorer levels of cover, to help you choose the right travel insurance cover for your break.

What and where you’re covered for is very important to our travelers and if you’re already overseas it’s not too late - you can still purchase online now.

World Nomads Travel Insurance at a glance:

When considering travel insurance for your next overseas holiday, you want to know that cover will be available for all those unexpected events that may happen. World Nomads Standard and Explorer plans may offer cover (up to the benefit limits) for the following, when you need it the most:

  • 24/7 Emergency Assistance for a range of events including medical emergencies, multi-lingual assistance, and assistance with flight amendments when your trip has not gone as planned.
  • Overseas medical cover that includes cover for hospitalization, day surgery and out-patient treatment, dental cover, and visits to registered medical practitioners.
  • Cover for delayed, lost or stolen luggage and valuables. Need to cover your tech or sports gear, or travelling with a designer dress? Some plans may allow you to upgrade your cover for high value baggage and personal items.
  • Cover for some of your non-refundable, pre-paid transport and accommodation expenses when you’ve had to unexpectedly cancel your trip for a covered reason.
  • Cover for more than 150 adventure activities, sports and experiences. Cover for different types of types of activities such as rock climbing, snowboarding, bungee jumping, and snorkelling.
  • Cover for some Coronavirus-related events. You may be covered for trip cancellation and medical treatment while on your trip, depending on your chosen level of cover and country of residence.
  • Cover when your trip is delayed, interrupted or cancelled and you are stuck at the airport, or your trip is postponed indefinitely.
  • And much more including travel insurance content, Help centre FAQs, some crazy true claims stories, and info on travel insurance for key trending destinations and activities.

Some handy questions to ask yourself before purchasing travel insurance:

  • Will I need a visa for the destinations I am visiting? Can I travel to a specific country or region or not? Make sure you do your research on all countries and regions you are planning to visit.
  • What activities do I have planned? Ensure you have the right level of cover for your planned activities, sports and experiences.
  • How long am I travelling for? When buying World Nomads travel insurance online you’ll need to enter a start date, and end date of travel.
  • Who am I traveling with, and do they need coverage, too?
  • Does my destination have any travel insurance requirements? Some countries require foreign travellers to purchase a travel insurance policy that at least covers the medical costs associated with treating COVID-19 and other diseases.
  • Do I need any travel insurance add-ons, for example, for high value tech items and sports gear?

At World Nomads, we strive to deliver not just travel insurance cover, but also some added value through our additional services such as:

Our policies aren’t designed to cover everything, so take the time to read the terms, conditions, limitations and exclusions in the policy wording for full details so that there are no surprises if you need to use it. If you’re not sure if something is covered get in touch.

Travel Insurance for Overseas Accidents

What's covered by travel insurance when your adventure turns into misadventure.

    As featured in:

  • As featured in:

Whether you’re exploring on the map or hurtling off it, serious accidents can happen anywhere, anytime.

If you have a serious accident while on holiday, you will want to consider travel insurance. An unexpected accident, for example, a car accident resulting in broken bones, a serious illness that lands you in hospital, or an injury caused while hiking or doing any type of sports, could really add to the pain you may already be feeling.

Injuries resulting from an accident can be extremely costly due to ongoing medical expenses, particularly when it involves medical evacuation costs. Thinking about the benefits of travel insurance when traveling abroad could mean you can be covered appropriately, and you may save thousands of dollars.

What’s covered by World Nomads travel insurance if I have an accident overseas?

  • Hospitalization
  • Day surgery and out-patient treatment
  • Visits to registered medical practitioners
  • Prescribed medicines
  • Medical evacuation including air ambulance

Make sure you’ve read your policy wording as there are there are terms and conditions, limitations, and exclusions. Always do your research on where you’re going and what you plan to do when overseas as this will help you pick the right policy.

Note: while you may have access to health insurance for any accidents in your Country of Residence, this may not be the case when you are overseas. Please be aware that this is accident and emergency cover only and is not a private medical insurance policy. It only covers you if there is a sudden and unexpected accident causing you injury or if you suddenly become ill during your trip.

How do I get travel insurance?

With World Nomads you can get an instant quote anytime, anywhere, before you leave home or while you’re on the road.

What’s not covered?

  • If you’re doing an activity the policy doesn’t cover.
  • A pre-existing medical condition, even if the condition recurs as a result of or is aggravated by an accident.
  • Any injury which is caused by or exacerbated by a pre-existing medical condition.
  • Any consequences of medical treatment not necessitated by an accident covered by this policy.
  • If you’ve been acting recklessly and taking needless risks.
  • If you ride a motorbike without a helmet or the correct license.

Cover for sports & activities and your sports gear

While we offer cover for over 100 sports, activities and experiences, we won’t cover you if you try to make a claim resulting from a sport or activity that isn’t covered by your policy. This can apply to cover for sports-related injuries, as well as equipment loss/damage and any personal financial losses. Make sure that each sport or activity you will be engaging in is covered by your insurance policy; if it’s not, consider upgrading your policy to ensure you are appropriately covered.

Getting urgent help while on holiday

A large number of travelers may experience some kind of trouble when holidaying overseas each year. That’s why our 24/7 Emergency Assistance team can help out when you need it the most. Our teams can guide you to the nearest hospital, set up direct payments to the medical facility, arrange medical transport, and provide support to your family back home.

Making a claim

Here are some tips that will help with your a claim:

  • Keep all travel insurance documents with you at all times while traveling. If you don’t want to carry the originals, you should make copies and take with you wherever you go.
  • Make sure you have the Emergency Assistance team’s contact details on you, so you can access them if something happens.
  • Get in touch with us before you agree to pay for any medical costs, tests, or treatments to make sure it will be covered.
  • Keep all receipts, reports and doctor’s notes with you until you return to your home country. Having these on you will be essential if you’re planning to make a claim.

This is not a full list of what's covered and what's not covered. There are limits and conditions that apply, so for more information check out our articles on overseas medical coverage and adventure sports coverage, and read your policy carefully before you buy.

Travel insurance tip: if you’re involved in an accident and are hospitalized or suffer an injury, you must report the incident to the relevant local authority (e.g. police, hotel manager, other travel service provider) as soon as possible and provide a copy of the written evidence to verify your claim. For example, you will need a police or roadside assistance report if you are delayed after a vehicle breakdown or a road accident.

Moped Accident in Koh Tao.

I was injured in a moped accident, in Koh Tao, Thailand. The moped turned over onto my foot and I had sprained/injured ligaments and tendons in my left foot. I was unable to walk on my foot at all. The doctor gave me a bandage in lieu of a cast, and crutches, stating that I could not bear any weight on my foot for a minimum of three weeks. I was also told to rest my foot, and could not do so while traveling. I needed to come back to the US for help getting around as well as time to heal.

Travel Insurance for Assault

Get the medical treatment you need after being attacked.

    As featured in:

  • As featured in:

Physical and sexual assault aren't something you ever want to think about for your trip, but the unfortunate truth is that these attacks happen way too often to travelers. That's why we're here to help you. While some destinations have higher incidents than others, no destination is immune.

To add complexity to already horrific circumstances, the laws and customs of some countries can see innocent victims imprisoned, so knowing what to do following an attack can be difficult.

Does World Nomads travel insurance cover assault?

If you’ve been assaulted overseas, all of World Nomads travel insurance policies have the following benefits which can help patch you up and get you on the road to recovery:

  • Hospitalization
  • Day surgery and out-patient treatment
  • Visits to registered medical practitioners
  • Prescribed medicines
  • Ambulances
  • Extra expenses to get you home, if medically necessary

Depending on the policy you buy and your Country of Residence, you may also be covered for counselling following an assault - the policy wording will have full details.

If you’re injured, hospitalised or suffer psychological trauma as a result of an assault, you, a member of your traveling party, or a friend or a close relative must contact our 24/7 Emergency Assistance Team as soon as reasonably possible to confirm cover, manage costs and any potential claim.

Our Emergency Assistance Teams have experience understanding and liasing with medical providers on the ground, so that you can get the care you need, when you need it.

What's not covered by travel insurance?

Travel insurance is designed for when things unexpectedly happen to you. If you pick a fight and end up coming out worse for wear, we're going to take that into account and may decide you won't be covered because you've put yourself at risk. All policies have limitations, conditions and exclusions, which are explained fully in the policy wording.

FAQ’s

Am I covered for counselling and psychologists after an assault?

If during your trip you are assaulted and suffer injury or psychological trauma, we’ll pay your expenses to visit a psychiatrist or registered counsellor overseas, up to the amount shown in the Summary of Cover.

Please note: coverage depends on your Country of Residence and on the level of cover, Standard vs Explorer, you have selected. For example, US residents are not covered for counselling under World Nomads policies.

Do I need to report the assault to the police?

If you’re a victim of an assault (e.g., a mugging or hijack) and suffer a severe injury or psychological trauma, we may cover you if the medical practitioner overseas and our Emergency Assistance team agree that it's medically necessary to repatriate you home.

Do you offer repatriation cover to go home after an assault?

If you’re a victim of an assault (e.g., a mugging, kidnap or hijack) and suffer a severe injury or psychological trauma, we may cover you if the medical practitioner overseas and our Emergency Assistance team agree that its medically necessary to repatriate you home. Cover will be up to the cost of an economy class airfare and related traveling expenses, as approved by us.

Please note: coverage depends on your Country of Residence and on the level of cover, Standard vs Explorer, you have selected.

Will I be covered for sexual assault?

You will be covered for any sexually transmitted diseases or sexually transmitted infections; however, this will ONLY be covered when contracted through an assault.

Assault while jogging.

During my holiday in Sydney , Australia, I was physically assaulted by a man while jogging. The attacker approached me and severely punched me in a face. I fell on the ground and almost lost consciousness with blood coming out of my right eye and nose. I was laying on cement pathway crying and screaming for help. Shortly after, I was seen by group of teenagers walking nearby and they ran to help me. Those people called an ambulance and police. I was taken to hospital and had x-rays and other medical treatments provided. My right eye orbit was broken and I was advised by doctors to have a risky and complicated surgery on low eye orbit to prevent possible vision loss and other complications.

Travel Insurance for Stolen or Lost Passports

How travel insurance could help if your passport is stolen while traveling.

    As featured in:

  • As featured in:

Having your passport stolen can cause significant interruptions to your trip. While you can easily replace a stolen pair of shoes or a t-shirt, it is much more complicated to replace a passport.

Some of our travel insurance policies can come in handy with your emergency passport expenses, and others can help with related expenses such as rearranging your trip while you wait for your replacement or cancellation if your trip can't go ahead.

What to do if your passport is stolen while traveling

Here are the steps to follow if your passport is stolen while traveling:

Step 1:

If your passport is stolen, you must, as soon as possible, notify your government’s nearest passport office or report the loss to the nearest diplomatic or consular mission. You must provide us with copies of all documentation provided by the government agency.

Step 2:

Report the passport theft or loss to the police as well as to the common carrier, service provider or other local authority (e.g. tour operator/accommodation/travel provider manager or security personnel) as soon as reasonably possible after discovery. If you do not comply with this condition, it may impact your ability to make a claim under this policy.

Step 3:

Provide a copy of the full, written police report of what has happened with your claim.
