No, it's a travel insurance policy. It's there for overseas unexpected medical emergencies. It's not designed to cover cover ongoing illness, routine check-ups or treatment overseas, or any treatment when you get home.
If you’re injured in an accident or suddenly become ill while travelling, you can be covered for overseas emergency medical treatment including:
We also have 24/7 Emergency Assistance teams who can guide you to the nearest hospital, arrange medical transport, set up direct payments to the medical facility, and give support to your family. I had been sick in India for about a month with ongoing symptoms including diahorrhea, vomiting, stomach cramps, nausea, fever, loss of appetite etc. Once we had arrived in Turkey I had an attack during the night at our Hostel. I was vomiting, had diahorrhea and intense stomach cramping so my boyfriend and I thought it was best to head to a hospital. Due to my condition I could not walk, it was also 2am/3am and we had no other method of getting to a hospital other than arranging for the hospital to send an ambulance to pick me up. Upon arriving at the hospital, the doctors undertook an examination of me and my conditions and due to severe dehydration they gave me a drip to restore my fluids. To find out what the causation of my symptoms were, they conducted tests on my blood and stool. The doctor also prescribed me medication to treat both my symptoms and illness. These included creams and also antibiotics.

Looking for comprehensive travel insurance to cover your (or your child’s) adventure overseas? World Nomads has designed our travel insurance cover with the adventurous in mind and covers many activities up-front.
While we won't say our travel insurance is comprehensive (because it doesn't cover everything), our travellers get up to all sorts of different things, so we offer two levels of cover - Standard and Explorer - with options to include extra activities to cover both the more, and less, adventurous.
As you'd expect, every policy is different and has multiple benefits. However, all of them include:
You also have access to World Nomads’ community of like-minded travellers, language guides, safety information, travel guides and more.
There are limits, conditions and exclusions which apply, so be sure to read the policy wording before you buy a policy.
If you put yourself in danger then we won’t cover you. This includes going to places the Foreign Ministry of your Country of Residence tells you not to, doing activities that you’re not qualified for or are too dangerous. We have a list of covered activities in our policies and if you’re not sure, give us a call and we’ll let you know if we’ll cover it or not.
Other things we won’t cover include:

Looking for travel insurance that won’t break the bank?
World Nomads knows our travellers understand why a good travel insurance policy is important… but would really rather spend their money on a hotel upgrade or first class train tickets.
That’s why we’ve got a little secret we’re going to let you in on… from time to time World Nomads offers travellers a promotional 5% discount when they purchase a World Nomads policy.
If you’re a first time traveller contact our customer service teams who may be able to advise you if there is a Save Promo code available to get you a discount on your policy.
As a returning World Nomads traveller, if you log into your World Nomads membership you’ll get a discount as a thank you for your continuing loyalty.
Due to Financial laws in North America this offer is not available to residents of Canada and the United States.
World Nomads covers on all our policies those things our travellers tell us are most important… and which they most frequently access. This includes:
In addition we cover more than 150 activities and events depending on your policy. Our travellers also have access to an online community forum, travel guides, safety tips and destination videos.
There’s a number of other exclusions so make sure you read your policy and know what you aren’t covered for. These include:

If you’re jetting off on an adventure with no end date in sight, you can still buy World Nomads travel insurance. Whether you’re thinking of being overseas for a few days, weeks, or a few months, one way travel insurance can help safeguard your adventure — even without a return ticket.
When you buy travel insurance with World Nomads, you have cover available for those common events that have a way of dampening an otherwise-good trip, such as:
And of course, single trip cover also provides access to the 24/7 Emergency Assistance team who can help you find a doctor or transport you to a medical facility, or if you or a member of your travel party become sick or injured.
It’s important to note that policy cover may vary depending on your Country of Residence and the travel insurance plan you choose — whether you’re planning a one way trip or return trip. So, it’s a good idea to do some research on where you’re going, so you can pick a policy that’s best for you.
One way travel insurance offers similar coverage to a policy taken out for a return trip. The main difference with single trip cover comes down to your flight home.
If you find yourself needing to return home for a covered reason, the cost you would have normally paid for an Economy Class airfare (at the carrier’s regular rate or actual cost incurred) will be deducted from your total claim.
Overseas travel insurance isn’t designed to cover everything and there are some things we simply don’t cover. Some of the things not covered when you travel one way include:
It’s always a good idea to read the Policy Wording carefully and check the terms, conditions, limitations and exclusions when you buy travel insurance (or anything else for that matter!) so you have a good understanding of what is and isn’t covered for one way travel insurance.
We offer two levels of cover, Standard and Explorer. Each plan comes with different benefit limits and sub limits. Take the time to consider which is the best option for your travel plans, so you clearly understand what’s included in the level of cover you select for your one way trip.
Many travelers who buy one way travel insurance are planning to move to another country for a working holiday for the foreseeable future. Our single trip cover is designed to cover you for up to 12 months, whether that means traveling somewhere like Australia for a year-long working holiday or an extended break in Europe.
And if you’re nearing the end-date of your trip and decide to extend your stay, you should consider extending your travel insurance too.
Get an instant quote 24-hours a day, 7-days a week.
Already left? With World Nomads, you can buy travel insurance even after you’ve left home. Get a quick quote and easily buy while abroad. If you buy a policy while already overseas there is a 72-hour waiting period from the date that you receive your Certificate of Insurance, before your cover comes into effect. This means that you may not be covered for certain events or losses that happen during this waiting period.
Be sure to check your Policy Wording for the complete list of what’s covered and what isn’t covered depending on your Country of Residence.
The World Nomads team is here to help. Get in touch if you’re unsure what your next step should be and we can help get you there, whether that means deciding which policy is best for your trip, how to buy while abroad, or how to make a claim.
Travel insurance doesn't cover everything. All of the information we provide is a brief summary. It does not include all terms, conditions, limitations, exclusions and termination provisions of the plans described. Coverage may not be the same or available for residents of all countries, states or provinces. Please carefully read your Policy Wording for a full description of coverage.
I was sitting on the grass in the Parc de la Ciutadella in Barcelona talking with some friends when a man crouched down next to me and tried to offer me narcotics. He had a jacket with him which he had set on the ground next to him and I later realised it covered my bag which was sitting next to me. I repeatedly refused to buy anything and told him to leave but he wouldn't go away. He finally left. I looked into my bag about 10 min later and realised he had stolen the phone out of my bag.

If you're worried about how your existing medical condition can affect your trip, make sure you read the policy when you get a quote so there are no surprises.
The World Nomads policies for New Zealand residents cover for more than 40 existing medical conditions which are specifically mentioned in the policy, where you meet all criteria for that condition. Terms and conditions and benefit limits apply. For travellers whose conditions aren't listed, or where all criteria are not met, there is no cover.
The good news for New Zealand residents is not only are you covered in some circumstances if you have existing medical conditions that meets the criteria for automatic cover, but you can also be covered in relation to existing medical conditions of a member of your travelling party and your close relatives who are not listed on your policy. This includes cover for:
There is a policy limit for all claims combined that relate to the existing medical condition of a close relative or member of your travelling party. All policies exclude cover for existing medical conditions, so make sure you read through your policy when you go to get a quote.

I was opening a bag of potatoes with a knife. The knife slipped and cut the 2nd (index) finger on my left hand. I attended the local emergency department in Aix-en-Provence at no charge, they referred me to Clinique Axium the following day. I underwent micro surgery to repair the ulnar nerve in my finger which I had partially severed (50%). Up until this time I was unaware that I had injured the nerve and definitely wasn't aware that I would require surgery. This operation was conducted under local anaesthetic.. I have had 2 follow up appointments at the Clinique the first of which was to issue a prescription to enable my dressings to be changed along with having a specialised splint made to keep my finger in a bent position to enable healing.
