We know there’s nothing more exciting than heading overseas with a ticket in your back pocket. So we designed our policies to cover more than 150 activities, sports and experiences including casual bar work, skiing, zorbing and much more.
Our policies come with loads of benefits depending on the policy that you buy, but all of them cover:
The maximum duration available for any policy, including extensions, is 12 months (365 days) from the start date shown on your Certificate of Insurance.
You can buy more cover, even if you’re already on the road. Generally cover can be purchased for up to a year, but if you want to extend your trip beyond one year, you just need to jump online to get a quote.
You can’t upgrade your policy type once you’ve departed and started your holiday, so you’ll have to buy a new policy if you need more coverage. That’s why it’s critical you select the right level of cover up front.
Please note: if you plan to extend your policy you should do so several days before it expires, due to time differences and possible administrative delays. If your policy is extended, we will issue you with an updated Certificate of Insurance.
There’s a number of other exclusions so make sure you read your policy and know what you aren’t covered for. Exclusions include but aren't limited to:
It’s important to remember that World Nomads offers travel insurance… not private health/medical insurance. That means our policies won’t cover you for pre-existing medical conditions or ongoing medical care.
This is not a full list of what's covered and not covered. There are terms, limits, conditions and exclusions that may apply. Always read your policy wording carefully before you buy and make sure it’s right for you. If you have more questions get in touch.
My wife, pregnant 8 weeks and 3 days, had abdominal pain went to the doctor for a check-up. The doctor diagnosed that the pregnancy is at risk and that therefore she can't travel and needed complete rest.

If you're worried about how your existing medical condition can affect your trip, make sure you read the policy when you get a quote so there are no surprises.
The World Nomads policies for New Zealand residents cover for more than 40 existing medical conditions which are specifically mentioned in the policy, where you meet all criteria for that condition. Terms and conditions and benefit limits apply. For travellers whose conditions aren't listed, or where all criteria are not met, there is no cover.
The good news for New Zealand residents is not only are you covered in some circumstances if you have existing medical conditions that meets the criteria for automatic cover, but you can also be covered in relation to existing medical conditions of a member of your travelling party and your close relatives who are not listed on your policy. This includes cover for:
There is a policy limit for all claims combined that relate to the existing medical condition of a close relative or member of your travelling party. All policies exclude cover for existing medical conditions, so make sure you read through your policy when you go to get a quote.
Travel insurance isn’t designed to cover everything. The main things that aren’t covered are:
This isn't a full list of what's covered and not covered. There are item limits and conditions that apply, so for more information check out our article on existing medical conditions.
Travel insurance isn’t designed to cover everything, so make sure you’re careful with your planning and you read the Policy Document to make sure you understand what’s included and what’s not, as well as the terms, conditions, limitations and exclusions. If you have any questions get in touch.
If your existing medical condition isn't covered and you're not worried about covering it, you can still purchase a policy online through World Nomads.
Just be aware there's no cover for any claim made as a result of this condition.
Upon arrival to Spain on the 4th of April I had been displaying fever, headache, exhaustion and dizziness. This lasted for a week, so I went to the doctor at the hospital in Malaga, Andalucia where they gave me a consultation and blood test showing results that indicated a mosquito-bourne virus which makes sense as I arrived in Europe from Mexico a week before the symptoms started.

I arrived home around 7:30ish from dinner feeling unwell and attempted to go to sleep. About half an hour later i threw up and had diarrhea which continued on and off for few hours. Around 1:20 am my heart begun palpitation and I felt dizzy with blurry vision. I called my mother and father whom are currently in Bali also on holiday. They came to where i am staying and decided it was best to take me to the emergency room. I was taken to Kasih Ibu Hospital in Denpasar. Where doctors treated me and kept me in the ICU for 2 days for further observation and testing.

We believe World Nomads Travel Insurance is the type of insurance that may help you travel abroad knowing you’re covered for your adventure… at the best price.
At World Nomads we’re travellers too, and we know that while everybody buys travel insurance to cover them when things go wrong, they’d rather be splashing out on a Bellini at Harry’s bar in Venice or upgrading their Bangkok hotel to include air conditioning.
That’s why we’ve designed our online travel insurance based on what you said you wanted… flexible online travel insurance that offers cover for medical emergencies, baggage delay or theft, trip delays, Coronavuirus-related cover, and more.
We've built our policies to help cover as many of those unexpected situations as we can. All of our policies offer cover for:
Of course, each policy is different but they have many benefits. Be sure to read the policy wording so you know what you're covered for.
World Nomads travel insurance also:
As no two travellers are alike and range from gap year students and backpackers to long term travellers and families, we offer two options, Standard and Explorer so you can choose the level of cover that is right for you.
If you need the extras you can pay for them and if you don’t, then you can keep a little extra in your back pocket.
This is only a summary of cover and does not include the full terms, conditions, limits, and exclusions of the policy. You should read your policy wording in full, so you understand what is and isn’t covered. If you are unsure about your level of travel cover, please contact us for help.
I put my foot in a funny way while I was walking quickly because it was raining, I just fell unexpectedly to the floor my face first so I put my arm bad and broke the shoulder a little bit and hit the ground with my front teeth so the lip was in blood and 1 tooth broken.

I was surfing and was bitten by a shark in Tortuga Bay, Galapagos Is. I was able to walk to the medical center in nearby Puerto Ayora, where I received emergency medical treatment from Dr. Idrovo. The treatment consisted of cleaning the wound, local anesthetic and ten stitches. A course of antibiotics and anti-inflammatories/ pain-killers was prescribed. A follow of check 24 hours later (today) revealed no infection. I am able to provide photos of the injury and treatment.

Broken bones in Mykonos, mystery illness in Madrid and bus accidents in Thailand, we’ve seen it all and know overseas medical travel insurance can literally be a lifesaver.
That’s why our policy is designed to help British travellers when unexpected illness or injury strikes and to get you back on your feet and, ideally, back on the road.
Cover available under this travel insurance policy is in excess of any statutory health insurance, or any available reciprocal health agreements (including your Global Health Insurance Card (GHIC) or European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). Where urgent medical assistance is required, contact our 24/7 Emergency Medical Assistance team before incurring medical costs. You must let us know how you are going and keep in contact with our EA team until you no longer require treatment or assistance.

World Nomads policies cover accidents and emergencies only and is not a health / private insurance policy. Cover may apply only if there is a sudden and unexpected accident or illness and for expenses for which there is no reciprocal health agreement in the country in which you are travelling.
If you are travelling to a country where the NHS has a reciprocal healthcare agreement, such as Australia or New Zealand, you will need to apply for reciprocal health cover before you leave the UK.
Though our policy may cover accidents and emergencies, it’s not a catch-all for every incident. Medical conditions or circumstances we don’t cover include:
If things do go wrong contact our 24/7 Emergency Medical Assistance team. They can advise on your cover and get you in contact with medical help as quickly as possible.
