South America is known for its natural beauty, warm and friendly people, the passion for football and tango, and the wines of Chile and Argentina. When traveling around Argentina and Chile, you’ll find that activities are limitless, and the natural attractions need to be seen to be believed.
Try trekking and camping in Patagonia, sip on some vino at wineries in Salta and Mendoza, or go stargazing in the Atacama Desert (the driest place on Earth)
No matter what your plans are, you should consider travel insurance as you never know when it may come in handy.
With World Nomads, you can buy travel insurance when you book your trip from home or while you're already traveling around Chile and Argentina. All our plans offer cover (up to the benefit limits) for:
Make sure that you’ve selected the right travel insurance plan for your specific needs. With World Nomads you can get a quote, make a claim, or extend your policy instantly online, even while traveling.
Note: all travel insurance plans are different, and cover will vary, depending on what's happened, your Country of Residence, the plan you choose and any options or upgrades you buy.
If there is one thing that both Chile and Argentina offer is outdoor adventures for all types and ages of travellers. Some highlights include:
No matter what you plan to do, World Nomads offers cover for many activities but remember that you may need to compare the Standard or Explorer plans to see which activity levels are covered on each plan. Depending on your country of residence, you may need to add activities to your policy for an additional premium.
Your plan may also have conditions of coverage. For example, you may be required to wear safety equipment, book a tour with a licensed tour operator, or stay within certain parameters of your sport: your treks may only be covered up to a certain elevation, or your scuba dives only to a certain depth.
Please check your policy for any exclusions, such as search and rescue missions and professional sports.
Argentina and Chile are amongst the most-visited adventure travel destinations in the world and with that comes the possibility that you may be injured or worse. Your travel insurance can back you up if you’re injured or fall ill and need urgent medical assistance.
Our 24/7 Emergency Assistance Team can get you help on the ground when you’re injured or sick, whether you need an ambulance transfer, or a visit to a doctor or a hospital that can treat your condition.
Get in touch with the team before undergoing any medical treatment; you may need pre-authorization before undergoing medical procedures or where medical evacuation is required. It’s also important that you look at the exclusions section of your policy; our plans don’t cover pre-existing medical conditions or preventative care.
While Chile and Argentina are considered relatively safe tourist destinations, you should always be aware that petty thieves and pickpockets are attracted to some of the most popular tourist hotpots. When in crowded areas in any Chilean or Argentinian city, always maintain a sense of awareness of your surroundings.
As soon as you’ve realized your bags have been stolen or damaged, please report it to the relevant authority (carrier, tour operator, accommodation provider). In the case of theft, you’ll also need to report it to the local police or relevant authority, as theft is a crime. Generally, insurance won’t cover things such as losing bags or valuables that are left unattended. Remember to always keep originals or copies of your receipts if you need to make a claim.
It’s very important that you NEVER leave your valuables out of sight. If you're after travel insurance cover for tech gear or need extra cover just in case your bags are delayed or stolen then World Nomads has options for you to keep those prized possessions insured.
Theft and robbery in Buenos Aires and Santiago and other major cities in both countries are possible, especially in popular tourist areas such as La Boca.
The safety precautions you should take in Argentina and Chile are essentially the same as anywhere else: don’t take unlicensed taxis, don’t wander around alone at night, and avoid calling too much attention to yourself, avoid wearing flashy jewelry.
Also, be aware of motorcycle robberies called ‘motochorro’ in Argentina, which are common, where two people on a motorcycle grab your bag or whatever is in your hand as they pass you and take off. Also, keep in mind when visiting Chile that large-scale demonstrations occur in Santiago and other cities. Demonstrations can take place with little or no notice, and often result in disruptions to transportation, including service on public buses and the Santiago Metro.
Traveler tip: make copies of all key documents you’ll be traveling with – passport, ID, travel insurance, receipts, vouchers, addresses, transportation tickets – and keep them separate from the originals while abroad so you’ll have backups and proof of purchase if anything happens.

For a country that straddles Europe and the Middle East, Turkey brims with tourist appeal. Whether you’re drawn to the mosques and historic sites in Istanbul, wish to pay your respects at Gallipoli, take a hot-air balloon ride over Cappadocia, or hiking through the Valley of Love is more your speed, World Nomads can assist with travel insurance plans while you are abroad.
Along with all your valuables, you should consider packing World Nomads Travel Insurance as soon as your trip is confirmed, if it’s an afterthought, that’s OK too, you can buy your policy while on the road.
Our team recognises that the coverage each traveller needs depends on their individual circumstances. That’s why we offer two different policies – Standard and Explorer – each with different coverage depending on what you’ll be doing on your travels through Turkey.
For example, if you’re planning on renting a vehicle and driving around Turkey, the Explorer option may suit you, as it includes a rental car excess and may cover the cost of a replacement key should one be required. This cover also includes benefits associated with hijacking, higher baggage reimbursement limits, and some coronavirus-related coverage.
If you’re heading to Bodrum for a relaxed seaside holiday, Standard cover may be sufficient. World Nomads offers coverage (up to the policy limits) for:
And many more cover options and extras…
Make sure that you’ve selected the right travel insurance plan for your specific needs as our travel insurance plans are different and cover will vary, depending on what's happened, the plan you choose, and any optional extras or upgrades you buy. Turkey is peppered with incredible experiences, but any time within this nation comes with a few risks. Pickpockets are a concern (muggings too), especially in Istanbul; terrorists have targeted the country before and may do again; and if you’re looking to hire a car, be aware that Turkish drivers are renowned for often ignoring the road rules.
None of us has a crystal ball that can tell us whether our bags will go missing enroute, or if an injury or illness is on the horizon, or that due to weather conditions your pre-booked hot-air balloon ride or your ferry ride from Turkey to Greece will be cancelled. Depending on the policy you choose, our policies may cover you (up to the policy limits) for the following:

This is only a summary of coverage and does not include the full terms, conditions, limitations and exclusions of the policy. Never travel without travel insurance. This was the first time I ever purchased travel insurance and I am so glad I did. A few days into my trip to Spain I twisted my foot heading down to the metro. Thanks to World Nomads I was able to get medical attention in Spain, and since, as luck would have it, I had a fracture that required surgery, they got me a flight home the next day. Filing a claim was surprisingly easy and when the claim was finally processed, I was reimbursed for all of my expenses including things like the extra week in the hotel I didn't get to take advantage of.

If you’re visiting Turkey be ready to take in the best of both worlds where East meets West. Straddling the border between Asia and Europe, Turkey offers everything from museums and archaeological sites to pristine beaches along the Turquoise coast and the always busy Grand Bazaar in Istanbul’s Old City with over 4000 shops.
With World Nomads, you can consider buying travel insurance when you book your trip from home or while you're already traveling around Turkey.
World Nomads offers cover for many activities ranging from hiking Turkey’s Lycian Way, hot air ballooning in Cappadocia, or surfing, whitewater rafting, and scuba diving in Antalya. Our plans can offer cover for:
Make sure that you’ve selected the right travel insurance plan for your specific needs. World Nomads has different levels of cover depending on your country of residence. The plans offer different benefits, limits and sub-limits so it’s best to compare them to see which one suits your travel needs. You can get a quote, make a claim, or extend your policy instantly online, even while traveling.
When visiting Turkey there are many spots to visit, whether you’re visiting in the summer or winter months. If you want to avoid big crowds, your best bet is to avoid the major tourist hotspots especially in the Summer months as they can get very crowded with locals and foreigners. The capital Istanbul is incredible but can be also quite daunting as it has 15 million people alone. If Istanbul is a must-see on your travel itinerary, then it’s advisable that you plan ahead, leave enough time and have a handy map when exploring the big city.
There are several attractions that will suit the more adventurous traveller looking for a unique outdoor experience. For example, you may want to visit the ruins of Mount Nemrut at dawn to witness a breathtaking sunrise. For those wanting to go skiing there are a number of ski resorts in Istanbul and Ankara (Turkey’s winter season is November through March).
With World Nomads Travel Insurance there are many outdoor activities, sports, and experiences that are automatically covered and available under both plans. If you’re feeling extra adventurous, you can upgrade the level of activity cover, which offers cover for a broader range of activities and sports. Whether hiking through ancient ruins, kayaking the Aegean coastline, or rock climbing at Ala Daglar National Park, always make sure you check the plan details before you buy to make sure you’ve got the right level of activity cover.
You should plan ahead for any sports and adventure activities you'll be doing and compare our two insurance plans before purchasing. Remember, you can’t upgrade your activities coverage after you buy, so it’s important to get this right on the first go.
World Nomads travelers have access to 24/7 Emergency Assistance. If something goes wrong and you need help, contact our team. They can help get you find local medical facilities if needed, provide local consular details and information and in the worst-case scenario, help get you home if you’re seriously injured or ill and need to be repatriated. When you call (free from anywhere in the world), make sure you have your policy number and a contact number for where you are so we can help.
When traveling to Turkey, travel insurance may help if you become unwell or have an accident. You don’t want to be left out of pocket if you have to visit a local doctor, go to hospital, need an urgent trip to the dentist, or even worse, have to be repatriated back to your country of residence.

The world of travel has changed, there is no doubt about that. Travelers are still interested in discovering new places. The appeal of busy hotels and big crowds has made way for vacations that involve immersion and intimacy.
Never before have we yearned for space and privacy on our own terms as we do now, which is why vacation rentals are coming into their own. But it’s unknown territory for many, that’s why you should consider World Nomads Travel Insurance, it can help you when the unexpected happens and let you focus on the good stuff.
World Nomads offers two plans – Standard and Explorer – each providing different levels of coverage depending on your Country of Residence and what level of cover you need. You can purchase your policy as soon as you know where you’re going and what the plans are, or if it’s all too hectic before you leave home, you can do it in transit. Our policies, include coverage for:
While we don’t like to think about it, things can and do go wrong when we’re far from home, even for the most seasoned of travelers.
As with most vacation rentals, the primary renter will be expected to put down a deposit to secure the lease, travel insurance can help you keep that payment secure, and possibly recoup a refund should you be forced to cancel at the last-minute as a result of illness, or due to a natural disaster in the area.
Same goes if you are booked into a beachside rental that costs you a fortune and a day or two into a week-long stay you get a call from home to say your mother has taken ill and you need to return to your country of residence immediately.
Travel insurance tip: vacation rentals have various house rules about occupancy, minimum age requirements for the primary renter and so on. Do ensure you understand what you're agreeing to before booking to avoid potentially incurring any extra fees or losing your deposit.
Of the two plans we offer, while there are plenty of similarities, the Explorer option provides additional cover for things like Rental Vehicle Excess, Covid-related events, personal accident and missed connection.
It’s up to you to choose the policy that best suits your needs, but it is worth noting once you have booked a Standard policy you can’t upgrade it.
Travel insurance isn’t designed to cover everything – so make sure you know what you’re covered for. Some, but not all, of the events we don’t cover include:
This is only a summary of coverage and does not include the full terms, conditions, limitations and exclusions of the policy. Often knackered after a long day of sightseeing and can’t think of anything better than ditching the jandals and settling in for a sunset drink on your private terrace? If this sounds like you, a private holiday crib is likely more your speed than a crowded hotel.
Whether renting out a cabin in the woods or a beach house there’s always the chance that the unexpected could happen and that’s where World Nomads Travel Insurance comes in.
Hopefully, the worst thing that happens when you’re staying at your cosy chalet in France is eating the free cheese and enjoying the wine too fast. But, if you find yourself in a pinch, travel coverage can save your sanity. When an emergency happens, it is as much a headache preventer as any dose of medicine. Think of good travel protection as having back-up on standby.
Booking hotels often seems so easy, but that’s just because it’s what we’re familiar with. As world travellers ourselves the team at World Nomads understands that steering toward a private rental may be a little nerve-wracking.
Following are just some of the things covered by World Nomads travel insurance. World Nomads offers coverage (up to the policy limits) for:
Travel insurance tip: holiday homes have various house rules about occupancy, minimum age requirements for the primary renter and so on. Do ensure you understand what you're agreeing to before booking to avoid potentially incurring any extra fees or losing your deposit.
Private holiday rentals differ greatly, not just when it comes to facilities and location, but also who you’re dealing with, what’s included and of course, what it will set you back financially.
World Nomads offers two plans – a Standard Plan and an Explorer Plan – each with different benefits, limits, and sub-limits of coverage.
Which policy you choose is up to you, but aside from any issues with your accommodation, the explorer plan can help if you’re planning on renting a vehicle or hiring sporting equipment; want to be covered for issues related to Coronavirus; and want reassurance that if you wind up in hospital you won’t be facing exorbitant out-of-pocket expenses.
Travel insurance tip: make sure you do your research on the countries you’re looking to visit to ensure that there are no government warnings or restrictions. Your policy will be jeopardised if something goes wrong and you fail to adhere to the warnings. Find out more at Safe Travel NZ and keep updated on the World Health Organisation information regarding COVID-19.
This is only a summary of coverage and does not include the full terms, conditions, limitations and exclusions of the policy. Most Aussies enjoy the creature comforts they’re afforded Down Under, so when it comes to travelling overseas many of us choose to bunk down in a holiday home rather than a run-of-the-mill hotel or resort. But sometimes booking from a private homeowner could add a layer of “What if?”. That’s where World Nomads Travel Insurance comes in.

World Nomads has two plans - Standard and Explorer - each of them providing cover for a multitude of activities including hiking, kitesurfing, kayaking, surfing and scuba diving. Some activities may require an upgrade where an additional premium has to be paid.
We also offer cover for key events such as:
We know the Brits love their cocktails by the beach, island-hopping explorations, and wildlife encounters, but as much fun as a trip to Thailand always is, it is just as important to consider what could go wrong and be prepared for that as best as any traveller can. The following is a list of travel insurance considerations:
Most travellers let their hair down when they head abroad, sometimes so much so that they often forget that they’re in a foreign country and need to always keep their heads in the game.
If you have a specific question about World Nomads insurance, please visit our online Help Center or contact us.
This is only a summary of coverage and does not include the full terms, conditions, limitations and exclusions of the policy. You should read your Policy Wording in full so you understand what is and isn’t covered. That way there won’t be any surprises if you need to use it. If you have any questions, please get in touch.

For many Irish travellers the need to go exploring the great outdoors and seek some adventure activities is a must when on a holiday. While it’s exciting to try out new adrenaline-pumping activities that you don’t get to do back home in Ireland you should also consider travel insurance when preparing for your next adventure.
Whether you’re picking up a new sport or you’re a seasoned outdoors adventure person, World Nomads offers cover (up to the policy limits) for the following:
Activities and sports cover: travel and outdoor adventures go hand-in-hand, that’s why our policies offer cover for more than 150 sports, experiences, and activities. While some activities are considered less dangerous, other types of activities such as rock climbing (outdoor) require an insurance upgrade and payment of an additional premium.
Emergency medical and evacuation coverage overseas – if you unexpectedly get sick or injured at any time during your holiday, seek medical assistance straight away. Firstly, contact your private medical insurance (PMI) assistance provider, if applicable. (See Travel insurance tip 2, below). If PMI is not applicable in your case, contact our 24/7 Emergency Medical Assistance team to advise them of your situation and sort out any further care requirements. They can contact the hospital where you’re staying to arrange payment for your accommodation, treatment, and medications. We may also cover the cost of your repatriation back to Ireland if your injury or illness is serious enough, in our doctor's opinion. Exclusions, and in some cases, excesses apply.
Baggage and valuables coverage – if any of your luggage or personal items are lost, stolen or damaged, then you may be covered for the costs of replacing these. Make sure you have your receipts as you’ll need to submit these when you claim. Always report any stolen belongings to the local police within 48 hours and request a police report. If there were any witnesses to the incident, then ask them to accompany you to the police station to give their statement. Witness statements should be included with your other supporting documentation.
Extended stays – if you’re having the time of your life on holiday and don’t want to return home to Ireland just yet, then you may extend your Single Trip travel insurance policy subject to meeting residential eligibility requirements. Extensions for Single Trip policies can be approved for up to a maximum of 12 months from the starting date listed on your Certificate of Insurance. Applications for policy extensions must be made prior to 11:59pm IST/GMT on the date that your existing policy expires, however we suggest not waiting to the last day to submit your request.
Trip cancellation costs – few things in life are more disappointing than having to cancel a long-awaited holiday due to unexpected sickness or a last-minute injury. Should you or one of your travel companions become injured or sick after making your holiday arrangements, and need to cancel your trip, then we may cover your non-refundable travel expenses such as accommodation and flights. You will need to provide medical evidence to substantiate your claim.
While many Irish live and breathe their Gaelic games, rugby, and soccer, we also know that our travellers have a vast range of sporting preferences. That’s why we offer cover for over 150 different sports, activities, and experiences. While the list may seem long, by no means do we cover every single sport or activity.
Always make sure that any planned sports and activities that you’ll be doing are clearly stated. If you’re injured playing a sport that we do not cover, then any claim you submit, may not be approved.
World Nomads offers two travel insurance plans, the Standard Plan and the Explorer Plan. These plans both offer cover for expenses in connection with hospitalisation, lost luggage, repatriation, and more. However, the Explorer Plan costs more than the Standard Plan as it offers higher policy limits and more benefits.
Note: When travelling to Nepal, select Nepal from the countries list to make sure you are buying the correct cover.
Always read through the Policy Wording to decide which plan is best suited for the activities and sports that you have planned. If you’re not sure if something you’re planning on doing while on holiday is covered, please contact us.
Our travel insurance plans categorise sports and leisure activities into four separate levels. Travellers are covered for all sports and activities listed under the level of cover they select, as well as those leisure pursuits assigned to any lower levels. The following is just a small selection of the sports we cover. Please check below for the full list of the sports and activities we cover.
Level 1
Level 2
Level 3
Level 4
Travel insurance tip 1: several of our covered activities and sports are listed on multiple levels to reflect the varying degrees of difficulty or intensity. Always check before you go that you have the right level of cover for your desired activities, as you cannot upgrade to a higher level or add any other sports after you buy your policy.
Here are just a few of our travel insurance exclusions. For the entire list, please check your Policy Wording.
Before selecting a plan, it’s best to know what types of sports and activities you and your travel buddies will be enjoying when you’re travelling. These are just some of the questions for you to consider when picking a travel insurance plan:
Travel insurance tip 2: Irish travellers, if you require any medical treatment during your trip while outside of Ireland (and as soon as you're medically able to do so) you’ll need to contact your private medical insurance (PMI) provider (if applicable) and follow their emergency medical procedures and claims procedures. Where your PMI provider cannot provide assistance, get in touch with our 24-hour Emergency Medical Assistance Team as soon as reasonably possible before incurring medical costs, and also please provide us with details of your PMI provider to help us coordinate your care. For more information on what to do please refer to Section 8 Medical Sections of Cover in your Policy Wording.
Are you fit enough for that?
Holidays offer a selection of leisure activities, many of which you may not have ever tried. Before you go trying new experiences, think about your fitness and plan your activities accordingly. Whatever you’re planning, make sure it’s something you’re physically capable of.
The right gear
When participating in a sport or activity, always wear safety gear. For example, you must wear a helmet when cycling or riding a horse. Before embarking on that mountain-climbing adventure, ask yourself if you have the right equipment required for such an undertaking.
Your activity operator should be certified/accredited
Make sure operators are certified and/or accredited by the appropriate body. For example, diving instructors should be registered with the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI).
Keep a watch on your sporting equipment
Nothing beats the feeling of elation that comes from being victorious in a game of sport. Yet before you rush off to hit the bar with your teammates, it’s a good idea to lock up any sporting equipment first. All too often valuable sporting gear and bags are left unattended or even worse, forgotten about.
Opportunistic thieves can take advantage of these situations. No matter how safe you think your sporting gear is, never leave it unattended. If you can’t take your equipment with you or back to your hotel, then place it in a locker or keep it locked in a room.
This is a summary only. It does not include all terms, conditions, limitations and exclusions of the plans described. Please refer to the Policy Wording for complete details of cover and exclusions. If you are unsure of your level of travel cover, please contact us for help.
World Nomads covers more than 150 activities and sports, and if it’s not on the list you can contact us and we’ll let you know if we’ll cover it.
You can read more about coverage for some specific activities to see the activities covered by the plans available to you.
