What may not be covered when horseback riding?

Some things we may not cover include:

  • Horseback riding under the influence of drugs or alcohol
  • Unattended baggage, sporting equipment or personal items
  • Horseback riding or travelling within your home province
  • Injuries to your horse
  • Riding horses in a rodeo, competition, or for salary/compensation
  • Riding bare back or playing polo

Top safety tips we recommend for your horseback riding trip

  • Have the right gear: Wearing a helmet is a MUST, no matter how experienced you are.
  • Wear proper clothing: Long pants and closed-toed footwear are essential.
  • Be prepared: Check the weather, check your equipment, and check the credentials of your riding instructor or tour operator.
  • Keep an eye on your gear: Don’t leave your expensive horse-riding gear or any other baggage unattended – those 'I spaced out” moments might not qualify for coverage.
  • Saddle up properly: Make sure your saddle is fitted properly. If the saddle is the wrong size, you could be more likely to slip out of it and fall.
  • Know your own physical abilities: Horseback riding requires a certain amount of strength, stamina, flexibility, and balance to mount and ride the horse. Make sure you are physically capable of riding.
  • Don’t startle the horse: Injuries can happen when horses are spooked by things like sudden movements and loud noises.

FAQ

Here are our most frequently asked questions about cover for Horseback riding. You can also find the answers to other questions in our Helpdesk or you can ask our customer service team

  • Is horseback riding covered under World Nomads Travel Insurance?

Yes, basic horseback riding tours are covered under both plans offered by World Nomads Travel Insurance, but make sure you list this as an activity you’ll be participating in when you purchase your policy. Leisurely horseback riding is considered a Level 1 activity and is automatically covered, but you’ll still need to list this as an activity when you purchase your policy. However, you will need to pay an additional premium to be covered for any Level 2 activities and Level 3 activities such as equestrian, dressage, show jumping, and eventing. If you are doing something beyond a basic equestrian activity, we suggest you contact us to find out what is covered.

  • What types of incidents are covered while horseback riding abroad?

If your trip is cancelled, delayed, or interrupted due to an unforeseen event, you may be able to recover your nonrefundable, prepaid travel expenses (up to the policy limits), and this could include unused, pre-paid, non-refundable horseback riding tours that you paid for in advance. If you fall off of your horse or you’re at the wrong end of a feisty hoof and you require medical assistance, emergency medical coverage could come in handy in the case of an unexpected injury. You could also be covered for unplanned situations such as lost bags or Canadian government advisories advising travellers not to travel to a destination on your itinerary.

  • What kind of horseback riding activities are covered by World Nomads Travel Insurance?

Travel Insurance for Portugal

Explore Portugal with confidence and check out some of the things travel insurance may cover.

    As featured in:

  • As featured in:

Article at a glance

  • Medical costs in Portugal can be high for non-EU visitors; travel insurance may help cover hospital stays, emergency care, and repatriation.
  • Australian travellers, including those travelling for work/volunteering, staying for more than 90 days should check visa requirements and policy limits.
  • Adventure activities covered: surfing, hiking, cycling and more (depending on plan and options selected).
  • Always read the Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) to understand what’s included and excluded. Cover is subject to the terms, conditions and limitations of the PDS.
  • No Reciprocal Health Care Agreement exists between Australia and Portugal — travel insurance for overseas medical expenses should be strongly considered.

Portugal offers a mix of medieval history and vibrant culture with a side of blissful beaches and fantastic fare. But before you hop your flight, consider how travel insurance for Portugal might help protect your trip.

From medical emergencies and travel delays to stolen luggage and natural disasters, your dream Portugal holiday can flip on its head quicker than a flight delay announcement.

What's covered

World Nomads travel insurance for Portugal offers cover (up to the policy limits) for:

We offer two travel insurance plans: Standard and Explorer. Each policy offers different levels of coverage and benefits. Consider the PDS and whether this product is right for you.

Why should I consider travel insurance for Portugal?

Travel insurance for a Portugal trip may come in handy for unplanned events like:

  • Overseas medical emergencies: Lisbon is a great city to explore on two wheels, but if you have a hiking accident and fracture your ankle (or worse) travel insurance may help cover costs.
  • Stolen belongings: Pickpocketing is a common reason for travel insurance Europe claims, especially in Portugal's busy areas like Porto's São Bento Station.
  • Trip cancellation: If your trip is cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances, like a natural disaster, our travel insurance for Portugal may be able to help recover costs.
  • Luggage delays: If you arrive in Farro but your luggage doesn’t, our travel insurance may help put clothes on your back.
  • Adventure activities: Surfing in Algarve, wine tasting in Douro, or hiking in Madeira? We cover more than 220 activities, so you can explore more.

This is a summary only. Cover is subject to the terms, conditions and limitations of the PDS

Does travel insurance cover medical care in Portugal?

Without a Reciprocal Health Care Agreement between Australia and Portugal, travel insurance for overseas medical emergencies should be considered.

Just keep in mind that travel insurance covers overseas medical emergencies, not routine or ongoing care. It may include cover for GP visits, hospitalisation, emergency evacuation, repatriation, and more, if you suffer a sudden illness or serious injury while on your trip.

Call the 24/7 Emergency Assistance team first if you’re sick or injured abroad.

What to look out for when travelling to Portugal

Pickpockets and scammers

Stay alert in crowded tourist hotspots like Lisbon's Tram 28 and Porto's bustling Ribeira waterfront. If you fall victim to a crime, report it immediately to authorities.

Ocean safety

The ocean is a magical place, but it can also be a dangerous one. Portugal's Atlantic coast has powerful rip currents, especially around the Algarve and Nazaré. Always swim in patrolled areas and heed warnings.

Travel to Portugal during shoulder seasons

Travel during Portugal's shoulder seasons of Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to November) and you'll be rewarded with cheaper accommodation and fewer crowds.

What’s not covered

Travel insurance is not blanket cover-all and there are some things we do not cover. It’s important to read your PDS carefully to ensure you fully understand what is and isn’t covered. Some of the things we do not cover include:

  • Personal belongings that are lost or stolen while unattended.
  • Existing medical conditions unless they are automatically covered.
  • Participating in sports or activities that are excluded, or any activity where you haven’t selected the appropriate level of cover and paid the additional premium, like skiing or snowboarding.
  • Incidents resulting from reckless behaviour, or if you’re under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

This is a summary only. Cover is subject to the terms, conditions exclusions and limitations of the PDS. Contact us if you have questions about coverage or exclusions.

Travel tips for Australians in Portugal

Embrace relaxed evenings and late dinners

While Australians typically dine around 7pm, Portuguese restaurants don't even open until 7pm. Embrace the late-night dining culture and enjoy leisurely meals that often stretch past 10pm. Note: Tipping 10% is standard.

Must-visit destinations in Portugal (beyond Lisbon and Porto)

While Lisbon and Porto are essential stops, expand your itinerary to include quieter stops like Sintra, Óbidos, and Sagres where you’ll discover fairy-tale palaces, medieval charm, and breathtaking natural landscapes.

EU entry and exit travel requirements coming soon

The new European Entry/Exit System (EES) for all non-EU nationals, including Australians, travelling in or out of the Schengen Area is expected to start in October 2025. Stay informed with Smartraveller for country-specific alerts.

This is not a full list of what's covered and not covered. Other terms, conditions, limitations and exclusions may apply so please read your PDS carefully. If you’re not sure if something is covered or how to claim, contact us and we’ll let you know.

Australian citizens can travel for short trips, without a visa, to the Schengen area for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. You'll need a visa if you're staying for over 90 days.

The EES is a separate system from the upcoming European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS), which will be a separate travel authorization system introduced in late 2026. Learn more about the ETIAS by checking out our Travel Wiser article.

What to look out for when traveling to Italy

Going off season

Visiting Italy in the shoulder seasons of Autumn (September to November) and Spring (March to May) means you can avoid large crowds and generally get cheaper flights and accommodation.

If you go in the peak season, it can be a good idea to go off the beaten path and visit some of the lesser known, but still incredible, Italian cities and regions. For example, Trento in Trentino and Mantua in Lombardy.

Traveler’s tip: check out our travel alerts to stay up to date on any travel restrictions or changes for Italy.

Pickpockets and other scammers

Be vigilant with your personal items, especially on public transport and busy tourist sites such as Pisa.

If your personal items are stolen - report the theft to the relevant authority, get a report, and submit your claim online along with copies of relevant receipts.

24/7 Emergency assistance

If something goes wrong, we’re here to help with 24/7 Emergency Assistance. We can help you find care nearby, communicate with doctors, and set up payments to medical facilities if your claim is approved.

Top travel tips for Italy

  • Travel documents for travel to Italy: The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) states that you should have a valid passport with at least six months’ validity. For example, you can’t enter some countries if you have less than 6 months validity on your passport from the date you intend to leave that country. This may apply when you’re transiting or stopping over in the country.
  • Australia has a Reciprocal Health Care Agreement with Italy. You may be able to get treated in public medical facilities if you show your Medicare card and Australian passport. You should still consider travel insurance for medical emergencies abroad as there may be differences in what's covered. Check what is covered under the RHCA and travel insurance as there may be differences in cover available under each.

Travel Insurance for domestic travel

Domestic travel insurance for Brits explained.

    As featured in:

  • As featured in:

Not all adventures require a passport stamp - sometimes, the best getaways are right on your doorstep. A weekend hiking in Snowdonia, a coastal escape to Cornwall, or a city break in Edinburgh – there’s so much to explore right here in the UK.

But whether you’re hiking the Scottish Highlands, exploring Cornwall’s rugged coastline, or city-hopping from London to Edinburgh, unexpected travel mishaps can still happen.

With a World Nomads Annual Multi-Trip (AMT) policy, you can get cover for domestic trips if you’ve pre-booked and paid for at least two nights of accommodation. Here’s what you need to know about what’s covered and what’s not.

What are the benefits of domestic trip insurance?

Here’s what’s covered (and why it matters).

  • Trip disruption

Life happens, and sometimes your trip doesn’t go as planned. Whether it’s a storm cancelling your weekend in the Lake District or a family emergency forcing you to cut a trip short, your insurance may help with:

  • Cancelling your trip: If you suddenly fall ill before departure or must cancel for a covered reason, you may be able to claim back non-refundable costs:
    • £3,000 (Standard Plan)
    • £5,000 (Explorer Plan)
  • Cutting your trip short: If you need to return home early, we may help with unused accommodation and travel expenses up to:
    • £3,000 (Standard Plan)
    • £5,000 (Explorer Plan)
  • Medical cover

Yes, the NHS has your back, but that doesn’t mean medical issues won’t derail your trip. Your insurance may help with:

  • Medical repatriation: if you break your leg hiking Ben Nevis and need to be moved closer to home for specialist care, your cover may include up to £10,000,000 (Explorer Plan).
  • Extra accommodation and travel expenses: Where it is medically necessary following an insured event, we can offer cover for some additional costs incurred. For example, expenses incurred for a friend or family member to travel from the UK to stay with you in hospital.
  • Hospital benefit: If you end up admitted for more than 24 hours, you could receive a daily payout to help with extra costs:
    • £20 per 24 hours (Standard Plan), max £200
    • £50 per 24 hours (Explorer Plan), max £1,000
  • Repatriation of remains: In the worst-case scenario, cover includes up to £25,000.
  • Personal belongings

Lost bags, stolen wallets, and broken cameras aren’t just international travel problems. If your gear goes missing during your UK trip, you could be covered for:

  • Personal baggage: If your luggage is lost or damaged on a train to London, you could claim up to:
    • £1,500 (Standard Plan)
    • £3,000 (Explorer Plan)
    • Single Item Limit £125 per item (Standard) | £250 per item (Explorer)
  • Money & travel documents: If your wallet disappears at a music festival, your cover includes:
    • Travel documents: £300 (Standard) | £600 (Explorer)
    • Money: £0 (Standard) | £200 (Explorer)
  • Other cover

  • Personal Accident: if you suffer a life-changing injury, such as permanent disability or death, the policy provides a lump sum:
    • £10,000 (Standard Plan)
    • £25,000 (Explorer Plan)
  • Personal Liability: if you suffer a life-changing injury, such as permanent disability or death, the policy provides a lump sum:
    • £2,000,000 per trip (for all insured persons per policy, per trip)
  • Extra Benefits of World Nomads Travel Insurance

SmartDelay™: relax while you wait

Flight delays are a nightmare - especially when you're stuck in an airport with nowhere to sit and overpriced sandwiches for company. That’s where SmartDelay comes in. If your departure is delayed beyond a set time, you may get free access to an airport lounge, where you can stretch out, grab a snack, and wait in comfort.

Exclusions of domestic travel insurance

Travel insurance is a lifesaver when things go wrong - but it doesn’t cover everything under the sun. Your policy spells out the fine print, but here are a few key exclusions to keep in mind:

  • Pre-existing conditions: If you’ve had tests or treatment for a condition in the 180 days before buying or extending your policy, it won’t be covered.
  • Alcohol & drugs: Had one too many at the pub and ended up in A&E? If an incident happens while under the influence, you’re on your own.
  • Illegal activities: If you’re breaking the law and things go sideways, don’t expect your insurance to bail you out.
  • Some personal belongings: Items like bikes or sporting equipment (whilst in use), won't be covered under the policy. If you are mountain biking in the Scottish highlands and require cover for your mountain bike, check your policy first.

Travel insurance for South Africa

What UK Travellers Need to Know About Safety in South Africa

    As featured in:

  • As featured in:

From tracking lions on safari to hiking Table Mountain sipping world-class wines, to shark cage diving in Gansbaai, South Africa is as wild as it is breathtaking. It’s a country that demands exploration, where adventure is always just around the corner - but so too are risks.

Whether you are road-tripping the Garden Route, surfing in Jeffreys Bay, or navigating the lively streets of Cape Town, World Nomads has travel insurance designed for the way you roam.

Why Should British Travellers Consider Travel Insurance for South Africa?

While South Africa is stunning, it’s not the place to wing it without cover. Whether it’s a medical emergency, stolen personal items, or a last-minute trip cancellation, travel insurance could help you avoid those unexpected costs and unnecessary stress.

Our Standard and Explorer plans can offer cover (up to the policy limits) for:

  • Family coverage: Traveling with your crew? Our plans (both Single and Annual Multi-Trip) can cover two adults and up to six dependents under one policy (provided dependents are under 18 at the time of policy purchase).
  • Medical emergencies: A bad fall on Table Mountain or a stomach bug from that questionable roadside braai? Our travel insurance for overseas medical could cover you for up to £5,000,000 (Standard Plan) or £10,000,000 (Explorer Plan), including overseas medical treatment, hospital stays, and prescribed medication. And our Emergency Medical Assistance Team is available 24/7 to help with medical emergencies,
  • Evacuation & repatriation: If the worst happens and you need medical evacuation or repatriation back to the UK, we may cover the costs.
  • Lost, delayed, or stolen baggage: Whether it’s a pickpocket in Cape Town or a baggage mishap at Heathrow, we may help replace the essentials (think socks, jocks, and a brush for the ole’ teeth).
  • Trip interruption & cancellation: Flights get delayed. Plans change. A last-minute emergency back home in the UK forces you to cut your trip short. We cover trip interruptions and cancellations for specific insured events, so you’re not left out of pocket.
  • Adventure activities: Whether you’re cage diving with great whites in Gansbaai or bungee jumping off Bloukrans Bridge, our policies cover over 150 adventure sports and activities - so you can chase the thrills without worrying about the fine print.

Dive into your policy details for the full scoop, and if anything's unclear, contact us.

Air Doctor: When You Need a Doctor, But Not a Hospital

A mild case of food poisoning from a dodgy Durban curry? A run-in with some unfiltered tap water in Johannesburg? Not every medical issue warrants a hospital visit, and that’s where Air Doctor comes in.

With Air Doctor, British travellers can connect with a doctor virtually or find one nearby, so you don’t have to stress about navigating South Africa’s mix of public and private healthcare systems. Whether you need a quick consult, a prescription refill, or minor treatment, Air Doctor helps you get sorted quickly so you can get back to your adventure - minus the downtime.

Ready to explore the wild plains of Africa? Grab your travel insurance quote here.

Annual Multi-Trip (AMT) Policy

If you’re a Brit with a serious case of wanderlust, our Annual Multi-Trip (AMT) policy is designed to keep up. Whether you’re hopping to Spain for a weekend, jetting off to South Africa for a safari, or chasing winter sun in Thailand, AMT covers your baggage, medical emergencies, and trip disruptions across multiple trips - without the hassle of buying a new policy every time you travel.

A Single Trip policy might be better if you’re sticking around South Africa for a longer stretch. Not sure which suits you best? Compare Annual Multi-Trip vs Single Trip Travel Insurance.

What’s not covered?

While World Nomads travel insurance has your back for many unexpected mishaps, there are limits. Here’s what isn’t covered, so you know before you go:

  • Unattended valuables: Left your phone on a café table in Cape Town or your backpack unlocked at a hostel? If your valuables go missing while unattended, they won’t be covered.
  • Reckless behaviour: Had one too many Castle Lagers and got into trouble? Alcohol - or drug-related incidents aren’t covered - so keep it responsible.
  • Extreme adventure activities: Shark cage diving? Covered. BASE jumping off Table Mountain? Not so much. If you have the incorrect level of activity cover or it is specifically excluded, it's out of bounds.
  • Ignoring medical advice: If your doctor (or our Emergency Medical Assistance Team) tells you to take it easy, but you ignore them and make things worse, that’s on you.
  • Cold feet: Changing your mind about travelling isn’t a covered event - so make sure you're set on your South Africa plans before you book!

5 Key Safety & Travel Tips for UK Travellers in South Africa

  1. Stay street-smart in cities: Petty crime is common, especially in Cape Town and Johannesburg. Avoid flashing valuables, use ATMs inside banks or malls, and take Uber or Bolt instead of street taxis - especially at night.
  2. Keep your car doors locked: Whether self-driving or in a taxi, keep windows up and doors locked, particularly at traffic lights. Carjackings can happen, so stay alert and avoid stopping in isolated areas.
  3. Tap water? It depends. It’s generally safe in major cities but stick to bottled or filtered water in rural areas. Avoid ice cubes in smaller towns and be mindful when brushing your teeth.
  4. Don’t be that tourist: Self-driving through Kruger? Stay in your vehicle when on safari tours. Tempted to feed a monkey for a photo? Don’t - those little guy’s bite. Wildlife is unpredictable, and you’re in their territory.
  5. Know the common scams: Watch out for fake "helpful locals" at ATMs, taxi drivers claiming your hotel is “fully booked,” and overpriced souvenir shops where guides get a kickback. Trust your instincts and book activities through reputable sources.

  • Never travel without insurance. This was the first time I ever purchased travel insurance and I am so glad I did. A few days into my trip to Spain I twisted my foot heading down to the metro. Thanks to World Nomads I was able to get medical attention in Spain and since, as luck would have it, I had a fracture that required surgery, they got me a flight home the next day. Filing a claim was surprisingly easy and when the claim was finally processed, I was reimbursed for all of my expenses including things like the extra week in the hotel I didn't get to take advantage of.

  • I recently had a serious injury traveling on my own & the team was amazing. Being confused with a brain injury they took care of everything. Claiming was no problem, they were on the phone constantly to see if all was OK. I can't recommend them enough. Absolutely fantastic & l will always travel with World Nomads Insurance. Thanks guys for getting me home safely.

Travel Insurance for Germany

From skiing in the Bavarian Alps to experiencing Berlin’s nightlife, learn how insurance for Germany could help Canadian travellers.

    As featured in:

  • As featured in:

What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you think of Germany? Storied forests, towering mountains in the Alps, fairytale castles like Neuschwanstein, charming towns such as Baden-Baden—famous for its spas— and wandering through festive Christmas markets with glühwein in hand, among other magical winter experiences, all come to mind for us. Of course, sloshing pints of beer at boisterous Oktoberfest celebrations, dancing your heart out at Berlin’s infamous clubs, summer techno festivals, and sampling local culinary specialties like sauerkraut, pretzels, and currywurst are not to be forgotten. Whatever your ideal trip looks like, Germany offers an eclectic art and music scene, natural beauty, and a diverse history.

Despite all the fun to be had in Germany, you can bet we’ve seen all sorts of travel insurance claims from Canadians travelling there. International travel can be life changing, but it also can involve those less-than-great moments - like sickness, missed flights, and lost baggage. Because of this, you may want to get a quote and purchase travel insurance for Germany before you set forth on your journey.

Do I need travel insurance for Germany?

World Nomads travel insurance plans offer protection against certain unexpected and unforeseeable circumstances that might disrupt your travel plans. You’ll want to consider travel insurance to protect yourself against expenses related to unforeseen events like theft of your baggage or a missed connection due to inclement weather that grounds your flight, for example.

Travel insurance for Germany can also protect against large medical bills resulting from accidents that may happen on your outdoor adventures such as rock climbing in Bavaria.

Our travel insurance plans also include important travel, medical, and security assistance services designed to provide you with guidance before and during your trip.

We have two plans to choose from for different types of travellers and adventures.

Travel insurance for activities in Germany

Whether you’re planning to ski or snowboard in the Alps or take a long-distance hike through the Saxon Switzerland forest, World Nomads travel insurance covers Canadians for over 250 activities in Germany. Rock climbing the crags of Frankenjura, kayaking on Bavaria’s mountain rivers and lakes, and cycling through the region of Rhoen are all covered under travel insurance for Germany.

It’s important to have a fairly concrete idea of your trip plans before you get a quote. You must list all your activities out when purchasing the plan—and if something happens while you are participating in an activity you didn’t list on your plan, then you won’t be covered. For example, if you go hiking while on your trip and you didn’t list that activity out when making your plan purchase, you won’t be covered if something were to happen on the trail. You may want to overshoot and list out all possible activities you may do, just in case.

Also keep in mind that you will be covered under the base plan to participate in various adventure sports, activities, volunteer, and work experiences, shown as Level 1, under both of our Standard and Explorer Plans. To have coverage for adventurous sports, work, and activities listed as Level 2 or Level 3, you will need to upgrade your adventure sports coverage and pay an extra premium at the time you purchase your policy.

Note: Special conditions and exclusions may apply to while taking part in certain sports and activities. For the full policy terms and conditions please review the policy wording.

Remember, travel insurance does not cover everything – for example, travel insurance will note cover you for any losses or expenses if you are intoxicated.

Travel insurance for medical emergencies in Germany

Whether you have an accident while tackling the Alpspitz Ferrata or sustain an injury while surfing the Eisbach River in Munich, you can protect yourself from loss due to emergency medical expenses by purchasing a travel insurance plan for your trip to Germany.

In a medical emergency, the first thing you should do (if you are medically able) is call the 24/7 Emergency Assistance Team. The team may be able to help you find a reputable medical center and could help organize the care you need. If you are unable to call until later, make sure you call them as soon as possible.

The Emergency Assistance Team can also help you navigate the unfamiliar health care system in Germany, including assisting you with language barriers and finding the best places to seek medical treatment.

Travel insurance for lost luggage in Germany

Lost or stolen bags is never something we plan for, but these things do happen. Did you arrive in Munich but your bag packed with your winter gear for your ski vacation didn’t? The first step is to contact the airline.  If you’re lucky, your bags just took a detour and will eventually make their way to you. Even a delayed bag can be stressful though. If this happens and your bag is missing for 12 hours or more, your travel insurance for Germany could still reimburse you for a change of clothes and toiletries, until you and your bag are reunited.

While Germany is generally considered safe, pickpocketing or theft can happen anywhere. It’s important to be mindful of your belongings on crowded metros and busy markets. If your stuff is stolen from under your nose, your travel insurance plan could also reimburse you for what was lost (deprecation and plan limits will apply). When picking a plan, you may want to consider the amount of baggage coverage available and make sure you are comfortable with the maximum amount. The Standard and Explorer plans each have different limits.

In a crisis, our Emergency Assistance Team is available 24/7 for referrals or locations of nearby hospitals, medical providers or pharmacies. The team can also help with translation services during an emergency.

Road safety on the Autobahn and in general

You may be interested in taking Germany’s legendary Fairy Tale Route ("Märchenstraße"), which stretches for 600 kms from the town of Hanau in Central Germany all the way up to Bremen on the North Sea, or simply cruising between different German cities. If you’re planning a long road trip on the Autobahn, there are some rules of the road to be aware of. Drivers can go as fast as they want in de-restricted sections of the highway, although this doesn’t necessarily mean you should drive as fast as you want. The German government recommends a speed of about 130kph. World Nomads travel insurance includes emergency medical coverage that could assist you if you are injured in an accident. You will want to make sure to purchase car rental insurance separately, as this is not covered

Travel insurance for cancelled, interrupted, or delayed trips to Germany

Sometimes your plans just don’t work out. World Nomads travel insurance plans include trip cancellation, trip interruption, and trip delay benefits that may provide reimbursement for your unused, pre-paid, non-refundable travel expenses.

Trip cancellation and Trip interruption coverage can help protect you in case of emergencies before your leave, or back home in Canada after you’ve departed. If you need to cancel or interrupt your trip due to a covered reason such as a medical emergency or the death of an immediate family member, you may be eligible for reimbursement of your unused, pre-paid travel expenses (up to plan limits) that you can no longer use.

Tips for travelling to Germany from Canada

As much as you may have planned each detail of your German adventure, the unexpected can still happen. We encourage you to check out the Canadian government’s safety warnings for Germany before you leave. Up-to-date warnings— including weather advisories and political situations—will be listed on the website.

It’s also a good idea to save the 24/7 Emergency Assistance phone number and your plan number in your cell phone so you don’t have to search for that if an emergency happens. Learning a few German words and phrases will also go a long way!

Finally, you may also want to read up on some local tips and destination inspiration for non-touristy spots to check out in Germany. This way you can experience the lesser-known side of this European country rich in history, cultural festivities, and mountains.

This is only a summary of coverage and does not include the full terms and conditions of the policy. It is important you read and understand your policy as it contains benefits, conditions, exclusions and pre-existing condition exclusions. If you do not understand your coverage, of if you have questions, just ask us.
