Por que contratar um seguro viagem?

Quer saber mais sobre Seguro Viagem e o que ele pode fazer por você?

    As featured in:

  • As featured in:

O Seguro Viagem World Nomads pode cobrir despesas médicas no exterior, incluindo:

  • Hospitalização
  • Tratamento ambulatorial (sem internação)
  • Medicamentos prescritos

Why buy travel insurance?

Learn more about travel insurance and what it does.

    As featured in:

  • As featured in:

In most cases, traveling goes without a hitch. Yet, medical bills can be crippling if you’re accidently injured or unexpectedly ill overseas. For that alone, travel insurance is worth it.

We’ve listed three of the main things people want cover for, but there are many more – have a look at our list of benefits!

Medical and medical evacuation

If there’s one big reason to buy travel insurance, this is it. In many cases, if you get sick, the hospital won’t treat you without upfront payment or providing proof of an insurance policy.

World Nomads travel insurance can cover overseas medical expenses including:

  • Hospitalisation
  • Out-patient treatment (no hospital admission)
  • Prescribed medicines
  • Transport to get you home for ongoing treatment if we decide it's medically necessary

This is not a full list of what's covered. There are limits and conditions that apply, so for more information read your policy carefully before you buy.

Cancellation

Have to cancel your trip can't happen at the times you least expect it. When you start paying for your airfares and accommodation, it only makes sense to protect what you've spent in case you can't travel. All of our policies can help cover flights and accommodation if:

  • You become sick or injured
  • A close relative becomes sick or injured

Baggage

Bags go missing from airline check-ins and things get stolen too. Loss of personal belongings is one the main reasons people buy travel insurance. Despite tracking, barcodes and all the rest of it, it’s not all that uncommon for a bag or two to go astray on flights. Hope it’s not yours.

If it is, our policies can help you for loss, theft or damage when your bag is checked in with a carrier. We can also cover you essential items if your bag is delayed – think toiletries, undies, a clean shirt and some socks.

Don’t forget to read the policy wording when you hit the quote button as all plans are different – don’t just assume your gear is covered in every situation, as conditions or exclusions may apply.

This is only a summary of cover and does not include the full terms and conditions of the policy. You should read your policy wording in full so you understand what is and isn’t covered. That way there won’t be any surprises if you need to use it. If you have any questions, please get in touch.

True Claims Stories

  • Never travel without insurance. This was the first time I ever purchased travel insurance and I am so glad I did. A few days into my trip to Spain I twisted my foot heading down to the metro. Thanks to World Nomads I was able to get medical attention in Spain and since, as luck would have it, I had a fracture that required surgery, they got me a flight home the next day. Filing a claim was surprisingly easy and when the claim was finally processed, I was reimbursed for all of my expenses including things like the extra week in the hotel I didn't get to take advantage of.

  • I recently had a serious injury traveling on my own & the team was amazing. Being confused with a brain injury they took care of everything. Claiming was no problem, they were on the phone constantly to see if all was OK. I can't recommend them enough. Absolutely fantastic & l will always travel with World Nomads Insurance. Thanks guys for getting me home safely.

Travel Insurance for Backpacking

US residents can stay protected on the trail - essential travel insurance coverage for backpackers

    As featured in:

  • As featured in:

At a glance:

  • Backpacking travel insurance may help if your trip is interrupted, your gear is stolen, or you’re injured on the trail.
  • World Nomads offers plans with coverage for emergency medical expenses, baggage loss, trip cancellations, and 250+ adventure activities.
  • Coverage varies by plan, including treks up to 26,247 feet/8,000 meters with the Epic Plan.
  • Optional Cancel for Any Reason (CFAR) coverage adds flexibility if plans change unexpectedly (must be added within 7 days of first deposit for your trip).
  • Access pre-trip telehealth to get essential meds, like altitude sickness pills or necessary vaccinations, before you go.

Just you, your pack, and the open road. Backpacking is a rite of passage for nomads chasing big experiences on a small budget.

Whether you're out to find your crew or yourself, travel insurance coverage can help if things go off track.

World Nomads Travel Insurance covers backpackers exploring Thailand, Vietnam, South America, Europe and beyond.

How can I protect my backpacking trip with travel insurance coverage?

Backpacking looks different for every traveler—maybe you're hostel-hopping across Europe and want protection in case your gear gets stolen, or you’re trekking through the Andes where emergency medical expense coverage could be very helpful. That’s why World Nomads Travel Insurance offers flexible travel protection plans for backpackers, with coverage designed to match your style of adventure. From safeguarding your belongings to covering accidents at high altitudes, we’ve got your back.

  1. Standard Plan
    covers backpacking trips up to
    19,685 feet/6,000 meters

  2. Explorer plan
    covers backpacking trips up to
    21,325 feet/6,500 meters

  3. Epic plan
    covers backpacking trips up to
    26,247 feet/8,000 meters

  4. Annual plan
    covers backpacking trips up to
    19,685 feet/6,000 meters

Plus, our plans include coverage for 250+ other activities you might do along the way, so you can explore confidently, wherever your backpack leads you.

Why you may want to consider travel insurance to protect your backpacking trip

Backpacking is all about freedom and spontaneity—but that flexibility also comes with risk. From sprained ankles on rocky trails to food poisoning in rural villages or stolen gear on overnight buses, the unexpected can derail your trip fast. That’s where travel insurance for backpackers can help—covering emergency medical expenses, trip interruptions, evacuations from high-altitude regions, and lost or stolen passports. And if your plans change before you even leave, optional Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) coverage may reimburse you for non-refundable, unused trip costs—ideal for travelers who like to keep their options open. Whether you're trekking through South America or hopping between hidden towns in Southeast Asia, having the right coverage gives you the confidence to go wherever the trail takes you. Certain conditions and limitations apply.

What travel insurance benefits could cover you and your backpacking trip?

World Nomads offers coverage (up to the plan maximum benefit amount) for:

  • Medical expenses:if you get hurt while backpacking and need medical attention, our accident and sickness medical expense insurance benefit may provide reimbursement for the treatment you need.
  • Emergency medical evacuation and repatriation: If your injuries are severe, acute, or life-threatening our plans may cover evacuation and transportation to a medical facility best suited for your care, subject to approval from the treating medical physician and the non-insurance 24/7 Emergency Assistance Team.
  • Baggage and personal effects protection: Our gear coverage may help with reimbursement of the cost to repair or replace damaged, lost or stolen items, including airline checked bags.
  • Trip cancellation: if you need to cancel your trip due to a covered reason such as an unexpected illness, we may be able to reimburse your pre-paid, unused, non-refundable expenses like flights, tours and accommodations. Want even more freedom to cancel? Check out the optional ‘Cancel for Any Reason’ benefit available on some plans (additional cost applies; not available in NY).
  • Natural disaster evacuation assistance: if unforeseen severe weather or natural disaster event puts a stop to your trekking adventure, your plan may cover costs to get you out of there and to the nearest place of safety. Certain conditions and limitations apply.

What may not be covered by the travel protection plan for backpackers?

Here are a few things we may not cover:

  • Being under the influence of narcotics.
  • Travel within 100 miles of your home.
  • Unattended baggage, sporting equipment or personal items.
  • Wear and tear from everyday use of sporting equipment. Gear that is in use is not covered.

Top tips for backpackers

Here are some pointers to help keep you covered while backpacking.

  • For you, does backpacking = hiking or mountain climbing? Make sure you select the right plan for your adventure sport or activities. Our article on covered sports and activities should help you decide on whether to buy a Standard, Explorer, Epic or Annual plan, as they have different levels of coverage.
  • Going wherever the breeze blows? If you want to cross the border, check with our customer service team first as your plan may not apply in all countries.
  • Traveling long-term: You can buy another plan for more travel insurance coverage while abroad (waiting periods may apply) even if you don’t have a return ticket. And if you plan to take numerous trips during the year, then the Annual Multi-Trip plan could be best for you.
  • Stay healthy: hiking requires a certain amount of strength and stamina, and in some cases (like the Inca Trail or trekking in Nepal), the ability to handle altitude. It’s best to be sure you are physically capable of it. Consider using our non-insurance service partner to initiate an online consultation to obtain prescription medications for the most common travel needs, like altitude sickness pills, delivered to your door before you leave on your trip (costs may apply).
  • Keep your receipts and paperwork:any claim you make will need supporting documentation such as receipts of your purchases and a loss or theft report. Keep these with you in printed or digital form if you need to make a claim.

Travel Insurance for Digital Nomads

Learn how your tech could be covered while you're working or traveling overseas.

    As featured in:

  • As featured in:

Protecting your gadgets is an important part of travel, taking your gadgets on the road is just as common and essential as packing an extra pair of socks. That's why our travel insurance plans have been designed for digital nomads.

Double check the specific terms and conditions of your policy as there may be limits to what you can claim depending on the premium you have paid and what happens to your equipment while on the road.

Why travel insurance is important for digital nomads?

Travel insurance may not always be required, but when that illness, injury, baggage delay or trip interruption occurs, and you’re left out in the cold in a foreign country it could come in very handy. World Nomads may offer travel insurance for several events, some of these include:

How are my electronics covered?

World Nomads may be able to replace, repair or recover the costs of your tech devices when stolen, lost or damaged under your supervision, in certain circumstances. Benefits are available only after exhausting other sources of compensation, such as from your common carrier (this can be a public airline, bus or train company licensed to carry passengers for a fee, excluding taxis and rental vehicle companies, and operating to regular public schedules/timetables).

Remember, depreciation and wear and tear on your gear are taken into account when we review your claim, and claims are subject to per item limit and total maximum benefit amount, which can be found in your policy wording.

In the event that your equipment is delayed, lost and/or accidentally damaged by a common carrier, you must report the incident as soon as reasonably possible to a responsible officer for the carrier.

You must also get a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) or a similar official report and make a claim directly with the carrier as a first step.

Bag snatched in Latvia.

It was my final day in Riga, Latvia. In my small bag I keep all my valuables, because hostels can't always be reliable with safekeeping. It contained my new GoPro, Iphone, digital camera, laptop and hard drive, plus my emergency money (200 euros). I planned on using my cameras and computer for editing later that afternoon. The coast was amazing and, as it got late, I decided to take the train back to Riga city. As I was getting off the train, down the vertical steep steps, I had my bag snatched off my shoulder. In seconds, the doors closed and the train pulled off. Telling authorities on the platforms immediately, they could not assist and referred me straight to the police. Feeling helpless, I went to the police where I was kept for hours, because of English barriers and translations of documents. I walked out just after midnight with my report. A day trip I won't forget soon.

Benefits are available only after exhausting other sources of compensation, such as from your common carrier (this can be a public airline, bus or train company licensed to carry passengers for a fee, excluding taxis and rental vehicle companies, and operating to regular public schedules/timetables).

Remember, depreciation and wear and tear on your gear are considered when we review your claim, and claims are subject to per item limit and a total maximum benefit amount, which can be found in your Product Disclosure Statement (PDS).

Does my travel insurance cover my tech?

Watch the video to learn how our travel policy can provide cover for all of your tech gear during your travels.

What's not covered by travel insurance?

  • When you mindlessly leave your gear behind (like that time when you forgot your very expensive camera and lenses in a taxi on your way to the airport).
  • Whenever you leave items (including tablets, laptops, photographic or video equipment, mobile phones and other hand-held devices) unattended, including in a car, boat, tent or camper trailer or checked in with your common carrier.
  • Gear or equipment that you use for professional purposes.
  • Electronic malfunctions (you'll have to hit up the manufacturer).
  • When you fail to file a loss or theft report with the local authorities or the representative of the venue where it took place, such as a common carrier, tour operator or other travel provider.

Mountain biking is hugely popular in Canada, with millions of riders hitting the trails—from world‑class destinations in British Columbia to alpine routes in the Rockies—and many travelling abroad to ride iconic terrain around the world. Whether you’re tackling technical descents closer to home, flowing singletrack on a cross‑border trip, or riding legendary bike parks overseas, mountain biking comes with real risks. Crashes, mechanical failures, trail injuries, or unexpected medical needs can quickly derail a dream trip. That’s where travel insurance can step in, helping cover emergency medical costs and other unforeseen events so you can focus on the ride.

What's not covered when mountain biking?

While we can offer coverage for mountain biking, there are some things we just won't cover. These include, but are not limited to:

  • Participating in any activity or sport as a professional athlete.
  • If you travel against medical advice.
  • Bicycles and other sporting equipment that are damaged while in use.
  • Search-and-rescue missions.
  • Unattended baggage, sporting equipment or personal items.
  • Biking while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Top safety tips for your mountain biking adventure

  • Get bike fit: Mountain biking requires a certain amount of strength and stamina, and in some cases, the ability to handle altitude. Be sure you are physically capable of it and consider seeing a doctor prior to your trip.
  • Make sure your bike is set up correctly before you ride check the saddle, pedals, handlebars, brakes, and tire pressure.
  • Put your safety first: only go riding with professional, qualified, licensed, and reputable operators. If something doesn't feel right, then don't go.
  • Keep your body loose and springy. Be prepared to stand up on the bike; doing this moves you with the bike and can help you avoid injury and accidents.

Travel Insurance for Backpacking

If something unexpected happens to Canadians, we’ve got your back – pack or no pack.

    As featured in:

  • As featured in:

At a glance

  • Protection for the Unexpected: Backpacking can come with risks—injuries, stolen gear, or trip interruptions—travel insurance can help cover the unexpected.
  • Bundled Coverage: World Nomads offers plans with coverage for emergency medical expenses, baggage loss, trip cancellations, and 250+ adventure activities.
  • Elevation Maximums: Coverage varies by plan and corresponding activity level purchased. The maximum elevation covered is 6,000 metres.
  • Support When You Need It: 24/7 Emergency Assistance Team is available in dozens of languages.

Just you, your pack, and the open road. Backpacking is a rite of passage for nomads chasing big experiences on a small budget. Whether you’re backpacking through Europe or making your way across Southeast Asia, these trips may last longer than a month—recent stats say around 41 days on average - and time is often spent exploring nature and navigating big, busy cities.

With so many destinations, experiences, and moving parts along the way, a little preparation can go a long way.

Whether you're out to find your crew or yourself, travel insurance may help if things go off track.

That’s where travel insurance for backpackers can help—covering emergency medical expenses, trip interruptions, emergency medical evacuations from high-altitude regions, and lost or stolen passports. If you have to cancel your trip before departure due to a covered reason—like sudden illness or injury—trip cancellation coverage may help reimburse your prepaid non-refundable expenses. Whether you're trekking through South America or hopping between coasts in the US, having the right coverage gives you the confidence to go wherever the trail takes you.

How can I protect my backpacking trip with travel insurance?

Backpacking looks different for every traveller. Maybe you’re trekking through high altitudes in the Andes where emergency medical expense coverage could be very helpful, or you need to protect your gear from getting stolen in city hostels. That’s why World Nomads offers four flexible travel insurance plans for backpackers (including the Annual Multi-Trip Plan), with coverage designed to match your style of adventure. Plus, our plans include coverage for 250+ other activities you might do along the way, so you can explore confidently, wherever your backpack leads you.

  1. Emergency Medical Coverage
For broken bones or food poisoning while on the road

  2. 24/7 Emergency Assistance
Your first call when things go wrong

  3. Baggage & Gear
Damaged or stolen gear and checked luggage

  4. Optional Cancel for Any Reason
Want ultimate flexibility? Cancel your trip for any reason and receive partial reimbursement (available on the Explorer and Epic plans only)

What doesn't backpacker insurance cover?

Travel insurance isn’t designed to cover everything. Here are a few things we don’t cover:

  • Any alcohol related sickness, death or injury or the abuse of medication, drugs, alcohol or any other toxic substance.
  • Travel within your home province
  • Unattended baggage, sporting equipment or personal items.
  • Wear and tear from everyday use of sporting equipment. Gear that is in use is not covered.
  • Backpacking over 6,000 metres.

Top travel insurance tips for backpackers

Here are some pointers to help keep you covered while backpacking.

  • For you, does backpacking = hiking or mountain climbing? Make sure you select the right plan and level of coverage for your activity. Our article on covered sports and activities should help you decide what to pick.
  • Going wherever the breeze blows? If you want to cross the border, check with our customer service team first as your plan may not apply in all countries
  • Travelling long-term: You can buy more travel insurance while abroad (waiting periods may apply) even if you don’t have a return ticket. Note that your total trip duration cannot exceed 365 days (14 days on the Annual Multi-Trip Policy).
  • Stay healthy: hiking requires a certain amount of strength and stamina, and in some cases (like the Inca Trail or trekking in Nepal), the ability to handle altitude. It’s best to be sure you are physically capable of it. Consider going to the doctor before your trip to make sure you are medically able to travel and have all the necessary medications.
  • Keep your receipts and paperwork: any claim you make will need supporting documentation such as receipts of your purchases and a loss or theft report. Keep these with you in printed or digital form if you need to make a claim.

FAQ

Here are our most frequently asked questions about cover for backpacking. You can also find the answers to other questions in our Help Center or you can ask the customer service team.

  • Do I need travel insurance for a backpacking trip?

Only you can decide your travel insurance needs; however, our plans were created with backpackers – and their unique circumstances - in mind. Whether you're trekking in high altitudes or navigating unfamiliar cities, the right travel insurance coverage can protect you from unexpected medical bills due to injuries, illness, theft, and trip disruptions.

Bungee Jumping Travel Insurance Coverage

Learn how Canadians can bungee jump with confidence with travel insurance

    As featured in:

  • As featured in:

At a glance

  • Bungee Jump With Backup: World Nomads offers travel insurance to help cover medical emergencies, stolen gear and trip cancellations for your bungee jumping adventures.
  • Plans Built for Big Drops: Bungee jumping may be covered, and you can choose a plan based upon the level of coverage you need.
  • Emergency Support in Remote Locations: Our plans include emergency medical evacuation coverage if you get injured while bungee jumping in remote areas.
  • Protection for Interrupted Bungee Trips: If your trip is interrupted by illness or injuries (amongst other covered reasons), travel insurance for bungee jumping trips may help cover your prepaid, unused, non-refundable trip costs.

Bungee jumping has become a staple of adventure travel, with an estimated two million jumps taking place worldwide each year—and, statistically speaking, it’s even safer to jump than to drive to the jump site. Maybe you’re taking the leap in New Zealand, the birthplace of commercial bungee jumping, or soaking up the lush scenery of South America for your first plunge. Wherever your jump takes you, it helps to be prepared for the unexpected. If your epic trip includes bungee jumping, World Nomads Travel Insurance with adventure sports coverage can help protect your adventure, offering benefits that may assist with everything stolen gear to unexpected medical expenses

Why should I consider travel insurance for my bungee jumping trip?

Unexpected issues can mess up even the most carefully planned bungee jumping trips. An unexpected hurricane can put a halt to your bungee jumping trip if the inclement weather causes you to miss a connection, but World Nomads Travel Insurance may help you bounce back quickly with support for emergencies, delays, and disruptions. World Nomads offers four plans. You can choose a travel insurance plan that best meets your needs; it’s a smart way to travel confidently when you’re bungee jumping outside of your home province.

Nomads tip: World Nomads Travel Insurance can also cover your travels within Canada! Your Government Health Insurance Plan provides little, if any emergency medical coverage once you leave your province. Your travel insurance plan can protect your domestic travels outside of your home province too.

Bungee jumping travel insurance: What may be covered?

Bungee jumping can test you both physically and mentally – and as adrenaline-seekers ourselves, that’s part of what we love. Since unexpected situations can happen when bungee jumping, we’ve designed our plans to include travel insurance for bungee jumping.

  1. Emergency Medical Expenses
For injuries when bungee jumping that require emergency medical treatment

  2. 24/7 Emergency Assistance
Available 24/7 to assist in an emergency situation

  3. Baggage & Gear Coverage
    Damaged or stolen gear

  4. Trip Delays, Interruptions & Cancellations

What may not be covered when on a bungee jumping trip?

If you decide to throw back a couple of drinks to calm your nerves before your big jump – and then get hurt while intoxicated – you may not be covered. Travel insurance for bungee jumping may not cover you if you get hurt when you’re under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Some other things that aren’t covered include:

  • Unattended baggage, gear, or personal items
  • Not following government ‘Do Not Travel’ advisories issued by the Canadian government
  • Travelling or bungee jumping in your home province
  • Pre-existing medical conditions if your medical condition is not stable and you do not meet the stability period found in the terms and condition of the policy.
  • Participation in other activities not listed as covered in your policy
  • Ignoring your doctor if they have advised you not to travel to a particular destination or go bungee jumping

Top safety tips we recommend for bungee jumping safely

  • Choose a reputable company. Take a look at their certifications, safety record and reviews.
  • Don’t try to show off. When you jump, don’t try to do flips or anything else that hasn’t been approved by the staff.
  • Talk to your doctor before jumping. Things like high blood pressure, heart conditions, dizziness, epilepsy, eye injuries, asthma, and neck, back or spinal problems can make bungee jumping more risky.
  • Don’t be under the influence of drugs or alcohol when you jump.
  • Wear the right clothes. Comfortable clothing is recommended, but don’t wear anything loose.
  • If you have long hair, tie it back to keep it from getting tangled in equipment.
  • Check with the Public Health Agency of Canada to see if they have issued any travel health notices for the destination where you’ll be bungee jumping.
  • Register with Canadians Abroad to stay updated on emergency situations.
  • Save a copy of your bungee jumping travel insurance documents in your phone. Have the phone number for the 24/7 Emergency Assistance team easily accessible as well.

FAQ

Here are our most frequently asked questions about cover for bungee jumping. You can also find the answers to other questions in our Help Center or you can ask the customer service team.

  • Is bungee jumping covered under World Nomads Travel Insurance?

Yes, bungee jumping is covered under all four plans offered by World Nomads Travel Insurance. Bungee jumping is considered a Level 1 activity and is automatically covered, but you’ll still need to list this as an activity when you purchase your travel insurance for bungee jumping policy. You’ll need to list all activities you are planning to partake in and pay an additional premium to be covered for any Level 2 and Level 3 activities like ziplining and hang gliding. If you aren’t sure if something is covered, we suggest you contact us to ask.

  • What types of incidents are covered while on a bungee jumping trip?

If your trip is delayed or interrupted due to an unforeseen event, you may be able to recover your non-refundable, unused, prepaid travel expenses (up to the policy limits), and this could include unused, prepaid, non-refundable bungee jumping tours that you paid for in advance. If you get hurt while bungee jumping and require emergency medical assistance, emergency medical coverage could come in handy in the case of an unexpected injury. You could also be covered for unplanned situations such as lost bags (by your common carrier) or Canadian government travel advisories advising travellers not to travel to a destination on your itinerary.

  • Can I get coverage after my trip starts?

Yes. If your trip has already started, World Nomads can still offer you coverage. You can buy a plan online anytime, from anywhere in the world. If you buy a plan after departing from your home province, you won’t be covered for any loss or expense related to any injury or sickness that occurs in the 48-hour period after your departure date. Your departure date will be 12:01am local time on the date that you are originally scheduled to start your trip as shown on your policy certificate.

  • Do I get my money back if I cancel a trip?

Trip cancellation coverage is offered with all four plans offered by World Nomads, and you could be reimbursed for pre-paid, unused, non-refundable expenses like flights, tours and accommodation if your trip is cancelled due to a covered reason. If you want ultimate flexibility to simply change your mind about your trip, you may be able to get optional ‘cancel for any reason’ coverage as well.
