You want to escape from the hustle and unwind under a blanket of stars. We get it, we’re a community of adventure travelers, and sometimes getting off the beaten track is exactly what we need. From lush northern European forests to the endless horizons of Australia’s Outback, a camping trip offers the chance to get in touch with nature and explore a different side of travel. But as exciting as planning your outdoor adventure is, traveling far from home and urban comforts can also come with risks.
World Nomads Travel Insurance Standard and Explorer plans offer cover for independent travelers like you for sudden and unforeseen events on your next camping trip, such as being left empty-handed when the airline loses your baggage (with your tent in it), if you need to see a doctor if you are hurt or unwell, or if severe weather washes away your travel plans.
World Nomads can offer cover (up to the policy limits) for:
Your coverage will vary according to your country of residence and whether you chose a Standard or an Explorer plan. Read your policy for details on cover, maximum benefit limits, exclusions, and conditions of your coverage. Contact us if you have any questions about your cover.
It doesn’t matter if you’re camping in a van or hiking into a remote campsite – chances are you’re going to want to do some more adventuring wherever you’re headed.
Depending on your Country of Residence, and the plan you choose, you can be covered for several activities such as bungee jumping, kayaking, and scuba diving up to 30 meters. While there are many activities available on the Standard plan, those feeling extra adventurous can upgrade to the Explorer Plan. The Explorer plan offers upgrades for activities such as hiking up to 6,000 meters, or canyoning and scuba diving up to 50 meters.
Check your policy carefully for details or contact us if you have questions.

What Americans need to know before traveling to Europe
As featured in:
Europe brings together a wide range of cultures, landscapes and ways to explore in a relatively compact region – little wonder it’s such a popular destination for Americans. From the iconic cities of Italy and France to the alpine scenery of Switzerland and Austria, and the coastlines of Spain, Portugal and Greece, each country offers an experience all its own. With well-connected transport and short distances between destinations, it’s easy to combine multiple countries in one trip. No one expects things to go wrong while they’re away – but if they do, it may help to know you have travel protection.
Choosing the right travel protection coverage depends on your trip type and planned activities. Each of our four plans – Standard, Explorer, Epic and Annual – offers different coverages and benefit maximums.

If you’re all about outdoor adventures, Europe has you covered. Ski the slopes of Austria’s Alps or snowshoe in Chamonix, France. Hike dramatic trails through Switzerland or take on long-distance routes like Spain’s Camino de Santiago. Along the coast, surf in Portugal, kayak along Croatia’s Adriatic shoreline or sail between the Greek islands. Prefer two wheels? Cycle through Tuscany’s rolling hills or tackle mountain routes in the French Alps and feel like you’re riding the Tour de France. However you like to stay active, Europe offers plenty of ways to get out there.
In case of unexpected illness or injury on your trip to Asia, the medical expense travel insurance benefit may reimburse necessary emergency medical expenses while traveling. If local care is inadequate in your immediate area, the emergency evacuation and repatriation insurance benefit may cover transport to the nearest adequate medical facility or home for treatment if you suffer an injury that is severe, acute or life- threatening. (Exclusion applies to Adventure or Extreme Activities.).
Unexpected events like natural disasters, illness, or family emergencies may force you to cancel your trip to Asia. Trip cancellation insurance coverage may help reimburse prepaid, non-refundable expenses if your trip to Asia is cancelled due to a covered reason.
Motorbike accidents are all too common in certain parts of Asia. We encourage you to have the proper in-country license for operating a motorbike and follow all local laws. Check out country-specific requirements before renting a motorbike and learn more here.
If your checked luggage is lost by your common carrier en route to your trip to Asia, travel insurance benefits may help reimburse you for lost items. If your baggage is lost on your flight, contact the airline first and then contact our Delayed or Lost Baggage Tracking and Delivery service, which is another of our non-insurance service partners.
Here are our most frequently asked questions about cover for Europe. You can also find the answers to other questions in our Help Center or you can ask the customer service team.
Travel insurance benefits for lost, damaged, destroyed, stolen or delayed bags are included in all World Nomads plans. Also, our non-insurance service included in every plan assists with tracking and delivering missing checked bags.
World Nomads travel protection plans cover theft or damage of the following documents:
You can claim up to the maximum limit stated in the plan towards the replacement of your passport or one or more other travel documents mentioned above.
Travel insurance isn’t mandatory, but it’s strongly recommended. Benefits for accidents, medical emergencies, cancellations, delays and lost luggage can help protect you against unexpected costs. Whether you’re in a major city or off adventuring in a more remote location, it’s reassuring to know you can get the help you need – especially when it comes to an accident or sudden illness. All World Nomads plans for US residents include insurance benefits and additional non-insurance services like access to pre-trip medical support. A telehealth consultation can help you with a customized medical plan based on your destination. This may help you prepare for health concerns before you go and the best ways to avoid travel-related illnesses.
You can make a claim online 24/7. Have your documents and receipts handy to upload and get started. If you get stuck, you can call us collect on +1 844-207-1930 and we can assist you with your claim.

How to get medical assistance
Contact our 24/7 Emergency Assistance teams as soon as possible, so they can support you from the time you fall sick or get injured, until the time you get home.
When you call please have ready:
It was my final day in Riga, Latvia. In my small bag I keep all my valuables, because hostels can't always be reliable with safekeeping. It contained my new GoPro, iPhone, digital camera, laptop and hard drive, plus my emergency money (200 euros). I planned on using my cameras and computer for editing later that afternoon. The coast was amazing and as it got late, I decided to take the train back to Riga city. As I was getting off the train, down the vertical steep steps, I had my bag snatched off my shoulder. In seconds, the doors closed and the train pulled off. Telling authorities on the platforms immediately, they could not assist and referred me straight to the police. Feeling helpless, I went to the police where I was kept for hours because of English barriers and translations of documents. I walked out just after midnight with my report. A day trip I won't forget soon.
