It doesn’t matter whether you’re all about the big dumps, fresh powder or apres-ski, accidents can happen on and off the piste, even for the most experienced powder hound. If you’re learning on your first trip or you’re a ski bum chasing seasons, World Nomads travel insurance can help if the unexpected hits your next winter adventure.
Depending on the plan and options you choose, our policies can protect you up to policy limits for benefits including:
We offer two travel insurance plans – Standard and Explorer – each of which offers different levels of coverage and benefits for your winter adventures. It is up to you to choose which plan has the right level of coverage to meet your travel needs and matches your specific snow sports plans.
With World Nomads you can get a quote, make a claim, or extend your policy instantly online, anytime, from anywhere.
As passionate ski bums, we’ve designed our plans to offer cover for the winter activities that our Nomads love the most. We can cover:
It’s important to note that all plans are different and may require an upgrade and/or you to have a relevant licence, qualification or use the services of a qualified guide for cover to apply. Read the Product Disclosure Statement carefully to choose the right plan and/or adventure sport option for your trip. If you’re not sure whether the snow sports you want to do are covered, contact us.
While there are several things we can offer coverage for, there are also things we just won’t cover. These include, but are not limited to:
Whether you’re a pro skier or planning your first ever winter trip overseas, these tips may be helpful when planning your next winter getaway:
Here are our most frequently asked questions about ski and snowboarding. You can also find the answers to other questions in our Helpdesk or you can ask our customer service team.
Our policies can cover skiing and snowboarding accidents overseas. There’s cover for emergency medical expenses, evacuation if required and even repatriation back home.
It’s important that you select the snow sports activities you intend to do when purchasing your policy. If you don’t declare the snow sports activities you intend to do, you may not be covered if you suffer an accident on the slopes. Restrictions apply to certain winter sport activities, so be aware of this so you’re covered if something goes wrong.
We can cover your ski and snowboard equipment if it is damaged, lost, stolen or delayed. Our Explorer plan even covers you for hire of replacement equipment so your time on the slopes isn’t affected! Our travel insurance plans offer different limits of cover for baggage, so be sure to choose the plan that best meets your needs. Keep in mind that we can’t cover damage to sporting equipment while in use, loss, damage or theft of any sporting equipment left unattended or sporting equipment more than three years old. Terms and conditions apply.
If your snow trip is cancelled, delayed or restricted due to a severe weather event or natural disaster, our policies provide cover for the value of your unused travel arrangements, less any refunds you receive, up to the benefit limit of your plan. If your trip is affected by adverse weather conditions, be sure to get supporting documents for your claim.
Snow sports cover provides cover for the unexpected, whether that’s a medical situation on the slopes, your gear is lost or delayed, or your trip is cancelled due to an avalanche. Our policies can help protect you against those unexpected situations.

Bungee jumping is truly the height of adventure! Standing on the edge of the platform, feeling the wind blowing on your face, the tightness of the ropes around your ankles – and the tightness in your throat and stomach as you prepare to jump! But before you do, follow our tips and make sure you’re covered.
Depending on your Country of Residence, all bungee jumps are covered on both our Standard and Explorer plans. However, it is a special condition that you must jump with a professional, qualified and licensed guide, instructor or operator, otherwise you will not be covered.
If you're a Brazilian resident: sorry, we cannot cover any bungee jumping on any plan.
We offer two plans – Standard and Explorer – each of which offers different levels of coverage. It is up to you to choose what plan has the right level of coverage to meet your travel needs and that matches your specific bungee jumping plans.
You can’t upgrade your policy after the cooling-off period so choose carefully when considering purchasing a policy. Check out your policy wording and contact customer service if you’re unsure what your cover includes.
World Nomad’s travel insurance offers cover for these key benefits, up to policy limits:
If you suffer a bungee jumping injury or accident on your jump, our emergency medical coverage may cover you for emergencies that require:
If you need medical treatment, it’s essential that you get in touch with our Emergency Assistance team as soon as possible so they can support you.
You might be bungee jumping in a canyon far from medical assistance, and our policies include coverage if you need to be evacuated to a medical facility.
Having an emergency in a foreign country can be overwhelming but buying a World Nomads policy means you’ll have access to our 24/7 Emergency Assistance team. Our Emergency Assistance team can help with a range of services in whatever part of the world you’re traveling, can speak multiple languages and they’re available 365 days a year.
If your bungee jump is cancelled or interrupted due to an unforeseen event, you may be able to recover your additional travel expenses. This includes if your jump is affected by a natural disaster, or your destination is affected by an extreme weather event.
Note: keep in mind that all plans are different depending on the plan chosen and your Country of Residence. Terms, conditions, limits, and exclusions apply. Read the policy wording carefully to choose the right plan and/or adventure sport option for your trip. If you’re not sure about anything, contact us.
While we can offer coverage for bungee jumping, there are also things we just won’t cover. These include, but are not limited to:
Want to get a taste of bungee jumping? See World Nomad’s Jabari Smith as he jumps off of the famous 440ft Nevis Bungy in Queenstown, New Zealand.
This is only a summary of cover and does not include the full terms, conditions, limitations and exclusions of the policy. You should read your policy wording in full, so you understand what is and isn’t covered. That way there won’t be any surprises if you need to use it. If you have any questions, please get in touch.

Our multi-lingual team is here to take the stress out of already stressful situations. They are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year and can offer assistance such as translation if you don’t speak French and in case of an emergency, arranging medical transport, providing payments direct to providers and giving support to you and your family.
Depending on your Country of Residence and the travel insurance plan you choose, you may have access to Coronavirus (COVID-19) coverage for certain events.
To find out what cover applies to you, select your Country of Residence and read our What’s Covered for Coronavirus article which has all of the details. If you’re not sure if something is covered or how to claim, contact us and we’ll let you know.
With all of the uncertainty when it comes to travel over the past few years, the last thing you want is to be out of pocket if you have to cancel your travel plans unexpectedly.
Depending on your Country of Residence, our travel insurance policies can offer coverage for some non-refundable, pre-paid transport and accommodation expenses, so you've got one less thing to worry about.

Our travel insurance policies offer cover for more than 150 activities, sports and experiences from skiing in Whistler, to hiking in Alberta and mountain biking in Montreal. We can also cover some water-based activities, including kayaking and white-water rafting. Some of these activities may require you to use specific safety gear or to be accompanied by a licensed guide, and other terms and conditions may apply – these will be outlined in your policy wording.
We offer two types of travel insurance plan – Standard and Explorer. While there are many activities covered on the Standard plan, those feeling extra adventurous may need to upgrade to the Explorer Plan. You’ll also want to read the exclusions section of your policy closely because some activities such as Mountaineering or professional sports are not covered.
Remember, if you’re not sure if something you’re planning on doing while on holiday is covered, please contact us before you organize your policy.
Please note that this information is a summary only. It does not include all terms, conditions, limitations and exclusions of the plans described. Please refer to the policy wordings for complete details of coverage and exclusions.

Contact the teamTravelling to Asia? With half the world to explore, there's a lifetime of adventure just waiting for you.
As featured in:
Draw a circle around the section of the globe that contains India, China, Japan, and Southeast Asia, and you have more than half the people on the planet.
With that many people and that many cultures, imagine the diversity of what you can experience traveling in Asia. The spirituality of major religions like Buddhism, Shintoism, and Hinduism. The majesty of the highest peaks, from Mt Fuji in Japan to the highest of them all – Mt Everest in Nepal. The vast differences in culture from places like South Korea, to Thailand, to Sri Lanka. And the realization that while circumstances may be different, people are the same the world over.
If you’re wondering whether you’ll need a licence to ride a motorbike or scooter the answer is Yes. You must have the appropriate license to ride a scooter or motorbike from your Country of Residence. If you do not have the appropriate license from your Country of Residence and you have an incident, you may not be covered.
You’ll also need to wear a helmet to ensure you are covered under our policies. Injury from a motorcycle accident is one of the most common claims. Many countries in Southeast Asia – especially Thailand - require you to wear a helmet while driving.
If you end up in a motorbike or scooter accident whilst traveling in Asia, we may offer cover for emergency medical expenses for treatment at the hospital or by a doctor; evacuation to a suitable medical facility if required; and repatriation home if you’re seriously ill or injured and unable to continue your trip. Our 24/7 Emergency Assistance Team can support you with translation services and finding a medical centre or hospital. They can also arrange for an emergency evacuation to the nearest hospital, or medical repatriation back home if required.
If you have an accident while traveling in Asia, follow these steps to keep safe, and make a claim.
Did you know our policies offer cover for 150+ adventure activities, sports and experiences across Asia including using a scooter, scuba diving up to 30m, hiking and more.
Eating all the tasty food is a must when traveling in Asia, however it’s also one of the most common causes for claims. The best advice is don't eat anything that's been sitting around, even for a short while. Fresh is best, so insist on the food being freshly cooked. Always wash your hands before eating and avoid tap water if possible.
Be sure to seek medical advice with plenty of time before your trip to organise vaccinations or preventive medicines you may need, such as tetanus, typhoid and yellow fever vaccines and malaria medication. You should also buy a strong mosquito repellent, as this can help protect you from dengue fever and malaria.
Your coverage will vary according to your Country of Residence and whether you chose a Standard or an Explorer plan. Read your policy for details on cover, maximum benefit limits, exclusions and conditions of your coverage. Contact us if you have any questions about your cover.
The best rule to go by is to employ common sense. Don’t leave your bag or valuables unattended or unzipped. Put your wallet away after purchases. Ride by bag snatchers are a thing in some Asian countries, so you’ll need to be vigilant. Do NOT try to hang onto the bag if it’s grabbed. If there’s nothing of value in your bag, it’ll be easier to let the thieves have it and avoid a confrontation.
We also advise leaving important documents, passport and credit cards in your hotel safe or a locker, if available.
Trains are the safest option out of several public transport options in Asia, however if you’re traveling overnight, you should take extra measures to secure your valuables while you snooze. Take padlocks, bike chains, cable ties, or whatever you prefer to secure your bags. Whether you are traveling on a bus, train or ferry our tip is to not stow anything of value in the luggage compartment.
Our policies can offer cover if your belongings are stolen (up to policy limits), depending on your Country of Residence and plan chosen. Don’t forget to keep your police report and make a copy to submit with your claim. If you’ve had your belongings stolen, follow our guide for what to do next.
Our policies aren’t designed to cover everything, so take the time to read the terms, conditions, limitations and exclusions in the policy wording for full details so that there are no surprises if you need to use it. If you’re not sure if something is covered, get in touch.

“A motorcycle came from behind me and stopped next to me, so I stopped walking. Two people wearing helmets were on the motorcycle. The driver was gesturing although I didn't know why, I didn't hear him/her say anything. I felt a slight pull on my bag and on my backpack strap, and then the motorcycle rode away out of sight. The motorcycle passenger had taken my bag. The strap of the bag must have been cut. I couldn't see a license plate. I continued to my hotel and reported the theft to the police the next day.”

Bali is renowned for its surf scene, spiritual vibe, and mouth-watering food, so it’s easy to see why it’s one of Indonesia’s most popular islands. Whether it's covering medical emergencies, lost luggage, or unexpected cancellations, travel insurance can help protect you when embarking on your Bali escapade.
With the right travel insurance coverage, you can immerse yourself fully in Bali's beauty, knowing you're prepared for any unexpected twists and turns along the way.
Make sure you select the right travel insurance plan for your needs. Each of our policies offers different benefits, limits and sub-limits, so it’s best to compare them to see which one suits the type of trip you’re planning. With World Nomads you can get a quote, make a claim, or extend your policy instantly online, even while traveling.
Note: all travel insurance plans are different, and cover will vary, depending on what's happened, your Country of Residence, the plan you choose and any options or upgrades you buy.
Bali is packed with tropical and cultural experiences, but there are some things you need to consider before immersing yourself in the Balinese culture.
Natural disasters, like severe weather, floods, landslides, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, and earthquakes can regularly occur; there is an ongoing risk of terror attacks; and the standard of medical facilities is often lower than that of other countries.
Depending on the policy you choose and your Country of Residence, World Nomads travel insurance may cover you (up to the policy limits) for the following:
If you or anyone in your party gets sick or injured and you need to cancel your holiday plans, we may cover the non-refundable travel expenses. Please note that the traveler must have already been issued a traveler’s Certificate of Insurance from World Nomads to have cancelation coverage available to them.
We cover more than 150 activities, sports and experiences including trekking, rafting or surfing, which are just some of the activities tourists seek out in Bali. But we don’t cover everything. Many activities also have specific terms and conditions, limitations and exclusions you should read up on. An upgrade for certain sports may be required. Check your policy for details.
If your luggage gets damaged or stolen en route to Bali or during your travels, you may be able to claim the unexpected costs incurred as a result. And if your luggage is delayed for more than 24 hours, you may be entitled to replacement costs for your essential clothing and toiletries. It’s important to read your policy wording carefully.
If your island time is thrown into chaos by a volcanic eruption, or you’re involved in a scooter accident, you can make a claim. If a volcano wreaks havoc with flight schedules, we understand that you may want to cancel your trip rather than vacation in an ash-affected area. If you're already in Bali, we may cover your exit. The use of scooters/mopeds comes with a caveat – you must have the appropriate licenses and add it as an activity when you buy your policy.
If you come down with Bali Belly after drinking contaminated food or water or are unfortunate enough to injure yourself in the surf, your policy may cover you for medical expenses. If required, you can get transported to a medical facility suited for your care, subject to approval from the 24/7 Emergency Assistance Team. Limits apply.
Travel insurance is not designed to cover everything. Some things World Nomads don’t cover include:
While Bali is generally safe, if you’re venturing there for the first time, it’s handy to be well-versed on how to traverse the island safely.
Traveler tip: make copies of all key travel documents – passport, ID, travel insurance, receipts, vouchers, addresses, transportation tickets – and keep them separate from the originals so you have backups and proof of purchase if required.
World Nomads has various articles that cover a range of fun topics on Bali, such as:

Bali is a pleasure to travel around at any time of year, but the best time to visit is during the dry season from April to October when the weather is sunny and pleasant, perfect for exploring the island’s beaches and outdoor activities.

Ni Hao! Whether you’re braving the crowds of Beijing, retracing the footsteps of nomads before you on the Silk Road, or hiking the Great Wall, China is as diverse as you’d expect a country of 1.4 billion people to be.
Such uniqueness brings surprises – some amazing, others not so. This is where travel insurance comes in. World Nomads policies may help in the face of the unexpected, allowing you to explore China with the confidence of a support team behind you.
All our plans offer cover (up to the benefit limits) for:
Consider if you’ve selected the right travel insurance plan for your specific needs. World Nomads has two levels of cover - the Standard Plan and Explorer Plan - that offer different benefits, limits and sub-limits so it’s best to compare them to see which one suits your travel needs.
You can get a quote, make a claim, or extend your policy instantly online, even while traveling.
Emergencies abroad are stressful enough but try navigating any Chinese system when you don’t speak Mandarin, Cantonese or the local dialect… lucky you have travel insurance with World Nomads.
In a medical emergency, you can contact our 24/7 Emergency Assistance team, who can direct you to nearby medical care, talk to doctors for you, and provide payments direct to providers if needed. They can also provide assistance with lost passports (what to do, embassy location), or provide assistance in case your checked-in bag ends up in Hunan instead of Hainan.
It’s worth knowing that while we can help with communication on the ground, you’ll need to translate paperwork into English when you lodge your claim.
If you’re the kind of nomad that likes to see a country from all angles, including upside-down, underneath and above, you’ll love that our policies may cover more than 150 adventure activities, sports and experiences including:
Depending on your plans and Country of Residence, you may need to upgrade your policy to be covered for the activities you will be doing. If you’re unsure whether the activity you want to do is covered, just contact us.
Keep in mind that coverage for an activity may have specific requirements, and if you don’t comply with them, you may not be covered. For example, if you plan to drive you must be licensed for that type of vehicle both at home and in China, that means getting a Chinese driver’s license (always check if your international driving permit is recognized).
In a country of 1.4 billion people, some places you go to are bound to be busy and crowded. Where there are crowds there are often pickpockets. With our travel insurance policies, you may be able to make a claim for replacement or reimbursement of stolen items, up to a per item and total maximum limit.
When traveling in China, you must take reasonable care to protect your belongings, or they may not be covered if stolen. This includes carrying valuable items with you such as electronic devices, jewelry, cash, travel documents and credit cards, and never leaving them unsupervised.
If your stuff is stolen, you must report any theft to the local authorities as soon as possible and obtain official documentation to support your claim.
Terms and conditions, limitations, and exclusions apply so be sure you check your policy wording.
Your health and safety are a priority when you’re adventuring in a foreign country. Things like traffic accidents, bicycle crashes and food poisoning are all too common in China. That's why our plans cover emergency medical expenses if you fall ill, get into an accident or get hurt on your travels.
China is a massive country, and once you leave the large cities access to medical care can pose a challenge. If your adventures take you into remote parts of China and you need emergency evacuation, our policies may also cover you.
China’s airports rank amongst the top ten in the world for flight cancellations and delays.
If your travel plans are affected by a delay or cancellation - our policies may help salvage pre-paid, non-refundable trip expenses that you’ve had to forfeit if a covered event disrupts your plans.
Keep in mind to check your policy for any terms and conditions, limitations and exclusions you need to meet: your delay might need to be a certain number of hours or be caused by a covered reason.
Note: all travel insurance plans are different, and cover will vary, depending on what's happened, your Country of Residence, the plan you choose and any optional extras or upgrades you add.
Our policies aren’t designed to cover everything and there are some things we just won’t cover. These include, but are not limited to:

As featured in:
One of Europe’s cultural capitals, France offers many varied experiences – from the azure waters of the French Riviera to a quiet café down an alley in Lyon, or the surprises that await you in the Louvre. But for surprises of the unpleasant kind – a delayed connection at Paris Charles de Gaulle airport, pickpocketing on the Metro, or a tumble down the ski slopes in Chamonix – World Nomads is here to back you up.
Petty crime and the theft of personal belongings can be common in Europe, especially in popular destinations or crowded transport hubs.
All World Nomads travel insurance plans have some coverage for theft, or if a carrier has lost your checked in luggage, depending on your Country of Residence and your chosen plan.
However, with any insurance plan, limits, conditions and exclusions may apply. For example, if you have simply misplaced your bags or if your gear gets damaged. Generally, you need to be able to show that you took reasonable care to look after your things.
If general, you will need a police report, or some other kind of report from an authorized representative (e.g., a property irregularity report from the airline or bus company if your bags were checked in), to validate baggage/gear claims.
While you might consider road trips to be safer than bungee jumping or sky diving, road-based travel comes with its own set of risks. World Nomads is here to help whether you’re navigating lane changes on the périphérique (ring road) around Paris or bumping along a country road with the following benefits:
The diversity of France’s geography means that there’s a beach, river canyon or snow-capped peak for every adventurer and every skill level. World Nomads travel insurance policies are built for adventure, and our policies can cover more than 150 activities, sports and experiences including cross-country and alpine skiing, hiking and mountain biking.
While French nationals benefit from a universal health care system, travelers from outside the EU may be out of pocket if they get into a cycling accident on a country road or get sick from a steak tartare or unpasteurized cheese. All World Nomads policies offer some cover for overseas medical, and you can make a claim for reimbursement for these medical expenses (less any excess, which may apply), even if you’re still traveling.
Having a policy with World Nomads also means you have access to our Emergency Assistance team, who are here to support you 24/7. They can help you find the nearest medical centre, and if it’s more serious they can arrange for an emergency evacuation, and set up direct payments to the medical facility if needed, so you can focus on your recovery.

As featured in:
India is a destination like nowhere else in the world. Steeped in sacred tradition, ablaze with colour, and emanating a culinary aroma all its own - the moment you step off the plane in India your entire being is enraptured. But just because a country has captured your heart and soul doesn’t mean a jaunt through its wonders will come hassle free.
Keep the harmony in balance with these essential tips that can help us help you if ever the need arises.
So you’ve arrived in India, homeland of tikka, korma, and madras curry. There’s just one little thing lurking, ready to knock you and your travel plans off their feet… gastro!
Otherwise known as “Rangoon runs,” “Delhi belly”, or just plain diarrhea, it singlehandedly derails more Nomads’ trips to the Taj than any other insurance claim in India. Many Nomads have experienced gastro before and know the standard precautions to take: check the seals on bottles, wash your hands, and only eat steaming hot food that’s cooked in front of you.
What you may not be ready for is the impact of a full-blown episode of authentic, Indian-food inspired gastro that scoffs at the western medicine you may have in your backpack and throws it back in your face… literally. Indian gastro typically hangs around a lot longer than you might expect if not treated with the right medication early. Combine that with the often-unrelenting heat of an Indian summer, and dehydration can leave you very ill.
To find out more about what you may be covered for when it comes to health emergencies check out our travel health article.
We recommend travelers with a World Nomads policy contact us earlier rather than later if they get a bout of gastro in India – we really don’t want you to miss seeing the Taj or, even worse, your connecting flight to your next destination.
A local operator can help you place a reverse charge call to our 24-hour, 7 days a week team who are trained to deal with these situations, or you can look to claim back the cost of the call later. We’ll be able to give you info on what to do next, help locate local suitable medical facilities where you can be seen by a medical professional who can prescribe antibiotics or other medication and, if necessary, arrange hospitalization depending on the severity of your gastro.
Policies vary depending on your Country of Residence and which plan you’ve chosen. Cover can include emergency local medical expenses and the costs of your trip being interrupted if the furthest you’re able to travel is to the toilet and back.
Find out how to (try to..) avoid Delhi belly and stay healthy while in India with these top tips.
Before you hop on that 15-hour Mumbai to Goa bus, there are some things you need to know, because if you don’t take the right precautions, your policy may not cover you for theft. Cover varies depending on the plan you’ve chosen and your Country of Residence (so make sure you read the policy terms and conditions), but generally, travelers must be able to show they took “reasonable care” to protect their valuables.
In India, this means if you leave your bags where they might be rifled through – such as at your feet on a busy bus, in the train baggage compartment or with people you’ve only just met – you may not be covered. Beautiful India… gorgeous, exotic, stunning and oh so dangerous for the unprepared. Before you head off on the Spice Trail, here are the top 3 tips to help protect yourself and your gear.
If your country’s government advice is to not travel to a particular area in India, your travel insurance can be void if you book or travel there. Lock your luggage and use under-clothing wallet holders for important documents, passport, and credit cards, with a small amount of rupee on hand for the journey’s expenses. Take turns sleeping on public transport, never leave your bags unattended or with someone you’ve just met, and always stay aware.
One of our Nomads reported having his bag stolen from under his sleeping head, so if it’s not zipped in, padlocked, and secured out of sight, you may lose it. Before you travel, make sure you have receipts for your valuables, and keep your passport, bank details, and photocopies throughout your bags. You will need a police report to claim, and even though those local Indian police stations can be frustrating to deal with. Do try to get something in writing and document everything you do – the more information you can provide with your claim, the better.
Like pickpockets, scams are rife in India. The good news is if you know how to spot a scam before you go, you’re less likely to fall victim to the often-convincing trap of a scam.
Places like tourist attractions, train stations, and bustling streets are a free for all peppered with dodgy scammers on the lookout for fresh travelers. This article on ‘How to Avoid Common Scams When Traveling in India’ is a good place to become acquainted with how to spot a scam when you’re presented with one. But if there’s a key takeaway it’s reminding yourself if it sounds too good to be true, it is.
If you want to go off-the-beaten-track in India, you really need to do your research first to ensure you’re not going to void your travel insurance, or worse, end up in jail, injured, or dead.
As they’re often disputed and unmarked, borders between India and its neighbors can be particularly risky to travel to.
If your country’s government advice is to not travel to a particular area in India, your travel insurance can be void if you book or travel there, intentionally putting yourself in harm’s way. Common areas that many countries recommend you do not travel to in India include:
Encountering mishap while on the road is never fun, and even worse, with void travel insurance, if anything goes wrong, you’re entirely on your own.
Always check your insurance policy and your government’s current list of travel warnings before you book your travel to India. World Health Organization can also provide the latest updates for travelers headed to India. If you’re not sure, contact us.

This is a firm no. Tap water in India is not safe for drinking, brushing your teeth, or slurping in the shower. It’s also advisable to stay away from foods that may have been washed with tap water, such as lettuce and other salad items. A good rule of thumb is if it’s not cooked or peeled it’s not safe. And don’t forget to say ‘no thanks’ to ice cubes in your drink - they’ve been made from tap water.
While no specific vaccination is required to enter the country—unless you’re traveling to India from a yellow fever affected region—most home countries will recommend some vaccinations. These typically include Hepatitis A and B, typhoid, and meningitis. Speak to your medical provider well in advance of your trip to ensure you’re properly covered.
Yes, malaria continues to be an issue throughout India. While the risk of contracting malaria in areas such as Delhi is lower, it’s still possible. Seek out medical advice before traveling to India to ensure you’re protected from malaria while overseas.

There are more hidden gems in Italy than there are varieties of pasta and gelato, from sampling limoncello while watching an Amalfi sunset, swimming the turquoise waters of Lake Garda, or visiting the World Heritage-listed site of Pompeii.
When you head to the Bel Paese, you’ll no doubt have an unforgettable trip; World Nomads just wants to help make sure it’s unforgettable for the right reasons.
With World Nomads, you can buy travel insurance when you book your trip from home or while you're already traveling around Italy. All our plans offer cover (up to the benefit limits) for:
Note: all travel insurance plans are different, and cover will vary, depending on what's happened, your Country of Residence, the plan you choose and any optional extras or upgrades you add. Always make sure you read the policy wording carefully.
Yes! When in Italy it’s very important to have a valid passport and a Schengen visa if you’re not a European citizen as this will help you move freely around the 27 EU member states. Depending on the Schengen country where you are applying for the visa, authorities may ask you for a Schengen visa letter.
If you’re not a resident of a Schengen visa country, you will need to get a valid Schengen visa to move freely in the 27 EU member states. Before you can get your visa, you'll need valid travel insurance.
It’s a good idea to visit Italy in the shoulder seasons, especially if you want to avoid large crowds and want cheaper flights and accommodation. Many of the main cities in Italy in the summer months will be full of tourists. If you do go outside of peak season – either in the autumn months (September to November) or the spring months (March to May) - flights may be cheaper, as will hotels and even shops.
Also, if you do go in the peak season, it may be a good idea to go off the beaten path and visit some of the lesser known, but still incredible, Italian cities and regions. For example, Locorotondo in Puglia, Trento in Trentino, Mantua in Lombardy, and Tropea in Calabria.

Italy might be the home of high fashion brands, but even a humble backpack can draw attention here, thanks to pickpockets. Always be vigilant with your personal items, especially in crowded areas where you’re likely to get jostled, especially on the buses, metros and trains, and busy tourist sights.
When it comes to theft, prevention is best, check out our top 5 safety tips for Italy article before you go.
If you’re planning on skiing down the snow-dusted slopes in the Dolomites or cycling through cinematic Tuscany, World Nomads has you covered with cover for more than 150 adventure activities and sports.
Additional premiums may apply, depending on your Country of Residence. Your choice of a Standard or Explorer plan may also determine what activities are covered. Just select your Country of Residence to see those that apply to you. If you’re not sure if something you’re planning on doing while on holiday is covered, please contact us.
In a medical emergency, say an injury or equipment failure that leaves you on your derrière, it’s comforting to know you can contact World Nomads for 24/7 Emergency Assistance. They can help you find care nearby, communicate with doctors, and even assist with any paperwork that you’ll need for out-of-pocket expenses. (While Italian citizens have nationalized healthcare, visitors from non-EU countries may have to pay for the cost of their treatments.) With a World Nomads policy, you may be covered up to a maximum benefit for emergency accidents and sickness medical expenses.
One of the most common reasons World Nomads gets a worried call from travelers is an unforeseen travel delay. Maybe local train employees are on strike or the bus you booked has been in a road accident.
Depending on the plan selected, with a World Nomads policy, you could get reimbursed for any expenses you incurred and even a one-way ticket home if the delay is caused by an event specified in your policy and sets you back for a certain amount of time. Just be sure to keep your receipts and copies of your rescheduled itinerary.
Whatever you’re planning, be sure to read over your policy carefully and contact customer service if you have questions.

The 50 states of the US are a melting pot of culture, natural wonders, history, languages, small towns, and urban centers. Wilderness lovers can climb through the rocky gorges of Bryce Canyon National Park, search for wildlife in Yellowstone, and chase the wildest landscapes of Alaska. City lovers can catch a show on Broadway in New York City, walk through charming Charleston, South Carolina, and admire the architecture and views in San Francisco.
While you might feel more at ease traveling in your own country, the unexpected can still happen. We encourage you to consider travel insurance* for your travels within the United States, which help protect you against unexpected flight delays, lost luggage, missed connections, and so much more.
Travel can bring all kinds of unexpected surprises - like coming across jazz musicians playing on the streets of New Orleans or watching a guzzling geyser in Grand Teton National Park.
Some surprises are not as great though. Nobody wants to think about things like canceled trips, delayed baggage, and medical emergencies, but these things can happen unexpectedly. If you twist your fall and get hurt while climbing Angel’s Landing in Zion, you may then wish that you had travel insurance for the USA.
World Nomads has four plans to choose from, and when you get a quote you can compare the options and choose the best international travel insurance for your needs.
From packrafting in Jackson Hole, Wyoming to shredding some fresh powder in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, outdoor enthusiasts have so many thrills to experience in their own backyard! World Nomads covers more than 250 activities for Americans traveling within the US.
Ocean lovers can surf the swells in Oahu and Santa Cruz, snorkel with manta rays in Hawai’i, and scuba dive in the Florida Keys. If mountains are more your thing, the US has phenomenal year-round hiking options. You can climb to the top of Mount Rainier in Washington state or conquer one of Colorado’s many high-altitude mountains. During winter, ski in Colorado’s Rockies or learn to dog sled in Alaska.
When you get a quote for your travel insurance for the USA, it’s advantageous to have a general itinerary in mind. Different plans cover different activities. An advance plan will help you choose the best insurance for your trip. For example, kayaking with orcas in the San Juan Islands is covered under all plans. However, if you want to take a scenic hot air balloon ride in New Mexico, you’ll need to invest in the Epic or the Explorer plan.
Accidents can happen anywhere in the world, even while you’re traveling in your home country. Your health insurance may not provide out-of-area or out-of-state coverage, so having travel insurance for the USA can help protect you from the unexpected during your adventures.
For example, if you fall and injure yourself while bouldering in Oregon’s Smith Rock State Park, your travel insurance for the USA may be beneficial. In the event of a medical emergency while traveling in the USA, you can call the 24/7 Emergency Assistance Team and they can help refer you to a place that offers the level of care that you need.
To streamline your experience seeking medical treatment in the United States, we recommend signing up for FootprintID before your trip. This non-insurance service is a portable personal health record where your documents, prescriptions, test results, and emergency contacts are accessible in one place. Whether you need to refill a prescription or deal with a more serious injury, FootprintID expedites the process.
What happens if you land in Salt Lake City and find out your bags didn’t arrive at the same time you did? If you’re left sitting at the airport carousel anxiously waiting for the bag that never comes, your travel insurance for the USA may reimburse you for a change of clothes and toiletries until your bag makes its way to you (if the delay is 12 hours or more).
If you’re skiing in Park City and you packed your new ski jacket, you could be reimbursed for the cost of replacing it if the airline isn’t able to remedy the situation. The other belongings in your lost checked bag could be covered as well (up to plan limits, conditions and exclusions apply).
After contacting the airline, the next step is to contact Blue Ribbon Bags. This non-insurance service will track and expedite the return of your undelivered baggage by the airline. Make sure to have the file reference or record locator number and Property Irregularity Report on hand when you call Blue Ribbon Bags so you can file a lost luggage claim.
Even if you have the perfect getaway planned, unexpected situations happen that can derail your plans. When looking for travel insurance plans for the USA, make sure to get one that covers trip cancelation, delays, and interruptions—and could reimburse you those non-refundable flights, hotels, and activities you paid for in advance.
If you purchase the Explorer and Epic Plan during the time sensitive period, the plans also may cover various travel inconveniences you may encounter on your adventures within the USA. For example, if you planned a ski vacation to Lake Tahoe, but the resort lacks snow and closes when you are already there, you may be eligible for compensation. Or if your rental car broke down on a road trip through the mountains of Utah and you arrived more than 12 hours late at your destination, you may also be eligible for compensation.
If you purchase travel insurance for the USA, it’s a good idea to save the 24/7 Emergency Assistance phone number and your plan number in your cell phone so you don’t have to search for that if an emergency happens.
There are things to keep in mind even if you’re traveling in your own country. Each state does things a bit differently and has its own rules. Sales tax varies state-to-state and speed limits can change as well. Be mindful of the change of etiquette and regulations as you explore new frontiers of this diverse country.
Take time, slow down, and explore the unknown. Check out our round-up of the least-visited national parks in the US for some inspiration. And as you explore the great outdoors, be mindful of the wilderness and leave no trace principles. You may also want to read up on wildlife safety such as tips for bear encounters—a real possibility in forest and mountain regions!

Make sure you have the required proof of any vaccinations so you can easily produce them while traveling overseas.
